Your teen delegates have selected INVESTIGATE YOUR FUTURE WITH 4-H as this year’s theme. The conference will focus on leadership, vision, research, communication, and creativity. Crown Plaza in Cherry Hill, New Jersey will be our conference headquarters. A fantastic weekend full of fun, friendship, and finding your future awaits you! SJTC will begin with registration on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the hotel’s main lobby. Upon arrival, you will check in at the registration table with Burlington and Monmouth teens to receive your room key and conference packet. For our collection drive, the SCARLET RAPTOR FOOD PANTRY will be the recipient of your donations of non-perishable food items. You can drop off your donations in the lobby before proceeding to your guest room. A buffet dinner will be served in the Gallery Room during registration hours. Following dinner, the conference will begin at 7:00pm with the opening ceremony and evening program developed by Cumberland and Cape May teens. On Saturday morning, we will hold a variety of educational workshops planned by the Gloucester and Salem teens focusing on college and careers opportunities. Attendees will be participating in community service activities on Saturday afternoon. Please watch for more detailed information to follow from Ocean teens. Saturday night is the banquet, dance, game room and, always a highlight, the 4-H Talent show. You are invited to showcase your talent at this fun event. Mercer and Camden teens will have the place rocking! Our conference will conclude on Sunday morning, March 3, with Atlantic teens holding a 4-H edition of “Shark Tank” and the closing ceremony, ending at 11:00 a.m. We look forward to seeing you at SJTC!

 Below you will find descriptions for the workshops for the 2019 South Jersey 4‐H Teen Conference.  Workshops will be divided into 3 sessions at the conference.  Please select your TOP 5 workshop choices below & rank them 1 (as your top choice) through 5.  If you have any questions, please contact your county 4‐H staff. 

 

Session 1 Workshop Selection:  _____  1. Exploring Career Paths in Healthcare 

Do you want a career that allows you to help others? Are you looking to work in a field with above average career growth in the coming years? Would you like a wide variety of career options? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, join us as we dive into the medical field to explore focus and treatment, as well as the variety of career opportunities available.  

 

_____  2. Fitness. Performance. Life. Come explore yoga, strength training, wellness, and various other restorative mind‐body practices!  This 

workshop will combine a short meditation and flowing movements.  After enjoying this restorative, low‐impact 

workout for the mind, body and spirit ‐ the group will move into discussion on career paths and certifications 

that follow these growing health and wellness trends. 

_____  3. To Serve & Protect Learn from the personal experiences of professionals in the law enforcement and military fields.  as they share their personal growth gained through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism.  The workshop will also include a review of day‐to‐day activities of a K9 unit, as well as discussion on education incentives and supplemental tuition assistance available through service.  

_____  4. Careers in Cooperative Extension  Do you want a career that keeps you excited and engaged?  Cooperative Extension staff, educators, and faculty have a passion for agriculture, community, or youth and family.  Through education and outreach, this career path provides the opportunity to improve lives by helping diverse populations meet challenges in an ever‐changing environment.  If getting to help and share your passion with others interests you, Cooperative Extension may be the right fit!

_____  7. Tools of the Trade Are you interested in launching a career or learning a craft?  Come explore a fresh take or maybe find your passion while making a living doing what you love.  There is a vast array of opportunities in building trades, career‐tech fields, and job opportunities in nuclear and fossil power plants, shipyards, refineries and chemical plants.  Like working more with your hands? Skilled craftsman positions for residential & commercial work also always in high demand.

_____  9. Ask a College Kid:  Panel on University Life Anxious about college campus life? Attend this panel to ask current college students (and 4‐H alums) all your burning questions! Panelists will be prepared to talk about life in a dorm, dining hall realities, scholarship and financial aid questions, and tips for having a successful college semester. 

 

_____  10. Financial Boot Camp What better way to lay a foundation of smart financial beliefs & habits than at Financial Boot Camp!  In and fun and interactive way, you will get to apply critical thinking to see how financial habits can enable you to manage, multiply and donate money wisely.  Join in to learn about financial habits, principles and concepts you can use to grow into financially responsible adults ready to achieve your dreams! 

 

_____  11. Pitch Perfect: How to Land Creative Writing Gigs Are you a writer who wants to make money off your passion for words? So much of professional writing is freelance‐‐getting paid per project and working independently.  To land a paid writing gig, you need to pitch: your idea, your style, your *self*. You will come out of this workshop with a completed pitch letter for the project of your dreams, be it journalism, essay or a work of fiction.

Interact with creative professionals and learn about opportunities to maximize your interests & passions 

through entrepreneurship.  As they share their own personal journey to develop creative products and services,

Calling all artists, musicians, comics, poets, and dancers...this ‘dress rehearsal’ is required for participation in the 

SJCT Talent Show.  This workshop is designed for you to have one final practice to perform and work out any 

last‐minute details of the main performance.

Parent Permission and Release of Liability

New Jersey 4-H Code of Conduct The primary purpose of the New Jersey 4-H Code of Conduct is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at 4-H sponsored events and activities. It applies to all participants, with participants defined as 4-H members, their parents, and volunteers. As a participant in the 4-H program, I will: • Conduct myself in a courteous manner and treat members, parents, 4-H volunteers, Extension staff, judges and

others with respect. Appropriate language and behavior are expected at all times. • Respect and adhere to the rules and guidelines of the 4-H program including all those specific to a 4-H event or

activity.

• Uphold an individual’s right to dignity by supporting an environment of inclusion which welcomes involvement of participants from all backgrounds.

• Accept supervision and support from county and state 4-H staff while participating in the 4-H program. This

includes acceptance of supervision and support from appointed 4-H volunteers coordinating 4-H events and activities.

• Obey local, state and federal laws. Participants who fail to adhere to the New Jersey 4-H Code of Conduct are subject to a range of disciplinary actions. Such actions will be taken in compliance with the New Jersey 4-H Discipline Policy and Procedure. When appropriate, immediate corrective action will be taken at the 4-H event to ensure the safety and welfare of all participants.

I understand if I fail to adhere to the above Code of Conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action and potentially prohibited from attending and participating in the New Jersey 4-H Youth Development program.

 If you answered YES to any of the above questions, you are eligible to utilize the Raptor Pantry, a food pantry available to Rutgers-Camden students who are food insecure. The food pantry is located in the Student Health Services, and is available to students with a Rutgers ID.

Help Fight Hunger on Campus  

 

You can help support the Raptor Pantry, a food pantry available to students at RU-Camden who are food insecure. National surveys find that on average 20%

of students have experienced food insecurity, meaning that they do not have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food to maintain

good health. You can help make a difference by donating non-perishable canned and boxed food items. We cannot accept damaged, opened or expired items. Below is a list

of most needed foods.   

   

Protein foods: - Peanut butter

- Canned Tuna, salmon or chicken - Nuts and seeds

Fruits and vegetables: - Canned soups

- Canned fruit (packaged in fruit juice)

- Dried fruits and raisins - Tomato sauce, crushed or diced

tomatoes - Salsa

- Fruit preserves/jelly

Dairy: - Canned milk

- Milk - Soy milk

- Eggs - Butter

Grains: - Cereal and oatmeal

- Pasta - Rice

- Graham or whole grain Crackers

Condiments: - Spices

- Olive or other vegetable oil - Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo
