* JUDGES AWARD OF MERITOften at the National Specialty the number of quality dogs in competition far exceeds the number of top awards available. The judge is permitted to choose one Best of Breed, one Best of Opposite Sex, also one Select Dog and one Select Bitch. The awarding of an Award of Merit acknowledges that an animal was under consideration for the highest honors of BOB and BOS. By awarding additional Judge’s Awards of Merit, the judge is indicating his recognition of animals who would, on another day, merit a top award. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, Inc., permits, at the judge’s discretion, up to a total of ten (10) Awards.

Crufts Qualifying Certificate The Kennel Club, England, has designated the AKC National Championship, sponsored by AKC and Royal Canin, as well as one designated AKC Parent Club National Specialty in each eligible breed, as the United States qualifying shows for Crufts. Recipients of Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Selects and Awards of Merit, are eligible for entry in Crufts as

a U.S. International qualifier.

Recipients of 2019 RRCUS National Specialty awards of BOB, BOS, Awards of Merit, and Selects, will each be given an eligibility certificate to enter Crufts.

STUD DOG CLASS For Stud Dogs and two of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. Dogs may be entered separately in one of the regular classes, or if a Champion of Record, in Best of Breed competition. However, the Stud Dog MUST be entered in the Stud Dog Class and the get MUST be entered in one of the regular classes. The Stud Dog Class shall be considered as one entry and requires one entry fee, this being the fee plus the additional class fee if the Stud Dog is entered in another class. The Stud Dog must be shown in the ring with the Get. The class will be judged on the merits of the Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require it disqualification or being excused under the Dog Show rules, AKC policy or the standard for the Breed.

BROOD BITCH CLASS Same as Stud Dog Class except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get. AKC Rules Applying to Dog Shows. Chapter 11. Section 8NOTE: Chapter 11, Section 8 of the "Rules Applying to Dog Shows" provides that a neutered male may be entered as a Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class.

BRACE CLASS Each Brace shall be composed of two RHODESIAN RIDGEBACKS with at least one common owner and presented in the ring with no more than two handlers. The dogs comprising the Brace must be named at the time of entry. Full particulars must be given for each dog on an individual entry form. If a dog that is to be part of a brace is entered in another class and entered as part of a Brace, specify "Brace Class" in the Additional Classes section of the form. If a dog is not entered in another class, specify "Brace Class Only" in the Dog Show Class section of the form. If more than one Brace is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising each Brace must be so designated, "Brace No. 1," "Brace No. 2," etc.

2019 Triathlon Competition

TRIATHLON RULES The scoring for The Triathlon will be based on scores earned in three events at the RRCUS National Specialty: Obedience, Lure Coursing and Conformation. Triathletes must score 50% of the available points in each event to be eligible for awards. The points earned are described below. EVENTS LURE COURSING: Monday, October 7th, Osborn Metro Park

The Triathlon score for Lure Coursing will be the AKC score divided by two. (This assumes two judges. In the event that only one judge is used, an AKC score would not be divided.) Singles Stake entries are not eligible. (Maximum score 100 pts.) CONFORMATION: Tuesday, October 8th, Birds of Prey The Triathlon Conformation Judge will evaluate each entry according to the breed standard and record a score for each, without awarding placements or trophies. (Maximum score 100 pts.) Each Triathlete must also be entered in a single entry AKC Conformation class at the Specialty; Sweepstakes, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Brace, and Jr Showmanship classes are not eligible. OBEDIENCE: Wednesday, October 9th, Birds of Prey The Triathlon score for Obedience will be one half the score earned in one of the following classes: Novice, Graduate Novice, Veteran, Open, or Utility. If a Triathlete is entered in multiple Obedience classes, the highest score will be used. (Maximum score 100 pts) Note: Obedience Beginner Novice class is not an eligible class for triathlon score. • To calculate the final Triathlon score, the points from the three events will be added and the dog or bitch with the

highest combined score declared Best in Triathlon. The next five highest scoring dogs/bitches will be awarded the 1st through 5th Triathlon Select Awards. All Triathletes will receive a ribbon of thanks and congratulations for their efforts.

• In the event of a tie in the Triathlon, a Tiebreaker Score will be calculated. The tied dog’s performances in AKC Conformation shall be compared based on the number of dogs defeated (Bowen System) and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. The tied dog’s performances in Obedience shall be compared based on the score awarded by the judge and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. The tied dog’s performances in Coursing shall be compared based on the total score (prelim + final run) awarded by the judge(s) and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. These points will be added and the dog with the highest Tiebreaker Score will be awarded the higher Triathlon placement. In the event that the Tiebreaker Scores are equal, the dog with the higher Triathlon Conformation score will win the higher Triathlon placement.

KENNEL STAKE: An entry shall consist of two hounds, designated at the time of entry, owned and living with the same person. The individual Triathlon scores of the two hounds will be added and the highest combined score will be awarded the Triathlon Kennel Stake Award.

BREEDER STAKE: An entry shall consist of two hounds, designated at the time of entry, bred or co-bred by the same person. The individual Triathlon scores of the two hounds will be added and the highest combined score will be awarded the Triathlon Breeder Stake Award.

- An owner or breeder may have more than one entry in the Kennel or Breeder Stakes. - A particular dog may be entered as part of both a Kennel and Breeder Stake,

but only once in each. • Owners are strongly encouraged to show their own dogs. • There will be no refunds after closing, except for bitches in season.

2019 Endurance Trial Competition Wednesday, October 9rd, 6:00-11:30 am

Location: Sawmill Creek Golf Pro Shop Open to 25 Entries!

All registered participants and volunteers will be contacted at least two weeks prior to the National with information pertaining to the ET so please include your email with your registration. There is also a Facebook site where we can discuss training and questions. The start-finish will be at the Pro Shop, where you will have your initial vet check and obedience test at 6:30am. The ET will follow a four-mile loop, repeated to make the required 12 miles, with vet checks every 4 miles. When you end at the Pro Shop, you will have your final vet check and basic obedience test. Ribbons will be awarded the same day in the conformation ring at lunch. Route Directions will be printed and available at check-in table prior to event.

Rules Mandatory: Dogs must be 2 years of age on the day of the event.

• Groups will be spaced 10 minutes apart. Know which group you are in and be ready. • There will be a 10-minute break between legs. As you come in from your 1st and 2nd legs, a timer will yell your time to

you. It is YOUR responsibility to be at the vet checker location 5 minutes later for the dog’s vital signs to be checked. When it nears the end of the 10-minute rest, report to the timer. They will give you the go-ahead at the 10-minute mark. o Example: If you come in at 8:00, you must be at the vet location at 8:05 and back to the starting line at 8:09.

• There will be a 15-minute break between the 2nd and 3rd leg of the trial. Once again, it is your responsibility to be at the checker’s location 5 minutes later to have your dog checked and be back at the line at the 15-minute mark.

• As you finish each leg, you will be able to offer your dog water. Do not allow your dog to over-drink, which can cause bloat.

• At the end of the 3rd leg – DO NOT LEAVE THIS AREA. You must report to the vet checker’s location 5 and 15 minutes after you cross the finish line. The dog’s vital signs will be measured each time. o Example: If you cross the finish line at 11:00, you must be at the checker’s location at 11:05 and 11:15. In between

these times, allow your dog to rest, drink water, and recover. • After the final vet check, you must report to the obedience judge for the final obedience test. • Failure to be at the checker’s location or the starting line could result in your not receiving the RRCUS ET Title. WATCH

YOUR TIMES. • You must maintain an average pace of at least 6 miles per hour (10-minute miles). You must complete each 4-mile leg

in no more than 40 minutes. If you go over time on any of the three legs, you will be allowed to finish, but you will not receive an Endurance Trial title.

• If your dog is deemed unfit or unable to continue by the on-site veterinarian, that decision is final, and you will be instructed to stop.

• A Rosette will be given to each Rhodesian Ridgeback earning a RRCUS Endurance Trial title during the Conference Center lunch break, with a gift bag and certificate.

TDI – For dogs that have achieved their CGC and are one year of age, there are only 5 more steps for the TDI:

1. Reaction to Medical equipment such as wheelchair, crutches, cane, walker.

2. Acclimation to informalities...dog is confident when exposed to people walking with an uneven gait, shuffling, breathing heavily, coughing, or wheezing.

3. Leave it. Dog can walk over food on the ground and upon command the dog should ignore the food.

4. Say hello. Dog to greet a person sitting on a chair or wheelchair and stand close to the patient to be easily reached.

5. Reaction to children. The dog and children are not in direct contact but the children or child is in the room playing or running.

DOGS ELIGIBLE TO ENTER

This trial is open to all Rhodesian Ridgebacks fifteen (15) months of age or older that are registered with the American Kennel Club or that have AKC Limited Registration, Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privileges (PAL/ILP), an AKC Canine Partners listing number or approved Foundation Stock Service (FSS) breeds are eligible to participate.

Dogs with a Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privileges (PAL/ILP) or an AKC Canine Partners listing number must be spayed or neutered in order to compete. Wherever the word “dog” is used it includes both sexes.

Dogs should be physically sound. Dogs that are blind shall not be eligible, and neither are bitches in season, aggressive dogs, or dogs suffering from any deformity, injury, or illness which may affect the dog’s physical or mental performance. No dog shall compete if it is taped or bandaged in any way or has anything attached to it for medical purposes. Refer to Chapter 2 of the Registration and Discipline Rules for the listing of registerable breeds that may participate.

Puppies under four months of age are strictly prohibited from the trial grounds

Please consult the AKC Regulations for Agility Trials for a complete description and eligibility for entry into these classes. The exhibitor is fully responsible for entering the dog in the correct class(es)/height divisions. Dogs running in a lower or higher height division than they are eligible for will be eliminated.

Handlers may opt to run dogs measuring 22 inches and lower entered in regular classes in a higher height division, but not in a division lower than their proper height division. Preferred dogs must run in their measured height division. Only dogs measuring into the 24 inch class may enter the 24 inch class. All others wishing to jump 24 inches must enter 24C.

HEIGHT DIVISIONS

MEASURING and HEIGHT CARD INFORMATION Effective January 1, 2010, exhibitors are no longer required to provide proof to Trial Secretaries that their dog has a valid jump height card as part of the check-in process. Furthermore, this change eliminates the need for a copy of the jump height card to be submitted with an entry form. Dogs without a valid Jump Height Card/Form may still compete; but they must be measured/wicketed by the Judge of Record PRIOR to running in their class and this measurement will be valid for this day of trial only. If a Volunteer Measuring Official (VMO) or an Agility Field Rep is present; ALL dogs without a valid Jump Height Card/Form must be measured at some time during the trial or cluster of trials. This does not preclude having the dog wicketed by the Judge of Record if the VMO or Rep is not available to measure the dog before its first run of the trial or cluster of trials. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to have their dog measured prior to running and failure to do so will result in the cancellation of any qualifying scores.

NEW Simplified Jump Height Card Process When filling out the entry form, there is a section on the form for exhibitors to designate whether the dog has a valid jump height card or if the dog needs to be measured. Please check the appropriate box so that the Trial Secretary knows whether to include the dog entered on the Dogs To Be Measured List. It is no longer required that a copy of a dog’s jump height card be submitted with an entry form or shown at check-in.

REGULAR PREFERRED HEIGHT AT WITHERS Handlers may opt to run their dog in a higher height division.

Handlers must run their dog in their proper eligible height.

Owners are responsible for entering their dog in the proper height division.

8” 4” For dogs 11 inches and under at the withers

12” 8” For dogs 14 inches and under at the withers

16” 12” For dogs 18 inches and under at the withers

20” 16” For dogs 22 inches and under at the withers

24” 20” For dogs over 22 inches at the withers

24C” n/a Dogs 22 inches and under may be entered at this height at their owner’s discretion

No entry fee will be refunded in the event a dog is absent, disqualified, excused, or barred from competition by the action of the Event Committee. Refunds will not be issued for less than $10.

NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS

SAFETY, BEHAVIOR and LIABILITY

The safety of the dog is our primary concern. By entering this trial, exhibitors acknowledge that they are familiar

with the rules and regulations of this sport, and that their dogs are familiar with and able to perform all obstacles

safely.

It is expressly understood that exhibitors alone are responsible for the behavior of their dogs and/or children.

Any exhibitor whose dogs and/or children create an unnecessary disturbance or repeatedly engage in unsafe or

disruptive behavior may, at the discretion of the event committee, be asked to leave the show site. In such case,

no refund of any fees paid will be made.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, Pinnacle Dog Sports and its agents, employees, etc., will

assume no responsibilities for any loss, damage or injury sustained by exhibitors or handlers, or to any of their

dogs or property and further assumes no responsibility for injury to children. The hosting club reserves the right

to decline entries for cause and may remove any dog on account of aggression. No one shall have any recourse

or claim against the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, or any official thereof.

Pinch/prong collars, electric collars (dummy or not), head halters or special training collars are prohibited on the

trial grounds.

Exhibitors may wear shirts or insignia of their training group if they wish.

All dogs must be on leash at all times except when in the ring or when in the designated agility warm-up area.

Dogs may arrive any time prior to judging if the dog has a valid temporary or permanent jump height card.

Otherwise, they must be available for measuring prior to the start of their class if a VMO or AKC Field Rep is

available to measure dogs. All dogs not needed for further judging will be excused.

Judges are not required to wait for dogs. The owner/handler of each dog is solely responsible for having it

ready at ringside when it is to be judged. The Club has no responsibility for providing service through a public

address system or stewards or runners for the purpose of calling or locating dogs that are not brought into the

ring when required.

The turf is very expensive to have professionally cleaned. Please take the time to walk your dog before their

run(s). If your dog has a potty accident on the turf, there will be a $20 cleaning charge.

All exhibitors should obtain a copy of the Regulations for Agility Trials by downloading them from

the American Kennel Club website at http://www.akc.org/rules/.

underneath your crates or X-pens. Please consolidate crating as much as possible.

be excused without benefit of refund if the Event Committee deems the exhibitor to be in violation

of this requirement. This includes at the hotel sites. Cleaning supplies and disposal sites will be

available at various locations around the show grounds.

INSTRUCTIONS

Handlers whose dogs measure into the 8” through 20” regular jump height divisions may opt to enter in a higher or 24-choice height division for all Regular titling classes, but not in a division lower than their proper height division. Dogs who measure into the 24” regular jump height division may not enter 24-choice. Dogs entered in the Preferred classes must compete at the required jump height and may not compete in a jump height division higher or lower than their proper height division. All dogs that have not been officially measured for an Agility Jump Height Card may still compete; however, they must be measured by a Judge of record, an Agility Field Representative, or a Volunteer Measuring Official, prior to running. If measured by the Judge of record, that measurement will be valid for this trial or back-to-back trials only. If a measurement is necessary, it is the exhibitor's responsibility to have their dog(s) measured prior to running.

Dogs listed in the AKC Canine PartnersSM program may be eligible to enter all-breed AKC agility trials at the club’s option. These dogs should be listed as All American Dog and must include their AKC number on the entry form and check the AKC No. box. Junior Handlers should enter their Junior Handler number on the front of this form. Should you not have your Junior Handler number, it may be obtained from the American Kennel Club (919) 233-9767.
