Missouri Delta Medical Center is proud of their ongoing emphasis on patient safety and quality of care. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology takes 28

performance measures to produce a single letter grade to represent a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

Missouri Delta Medical Center has maintained a top performing letter grade of “A” for four consecutive years. This “A” grade is a testament to the people

and systems Missouri Delta has in place to protect our patients from accidents, injuries, harms and errors.

The Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) is a partnership with the Missouri Hospital Association to drive quality improvement and increase patient safety

throughout the state of Missouri. Missouri Delta has participated in the HIIN project since the inception in

2011. Missouri Hospital Association awarded MDMC as one of the top 10 percent HIIN-participating hospitals

with the most zero harm measures reported. These organizations have either achieved and/or sustained

the longest duration of time without harming a patient in the most HIIN topic areas. In addition, MDMC was

recognized as one of the top 10 greatest percentage of improvement to date.

Our appearance may have changed but, we are still the same...Our newly renovated lobby has a fresh, new face, but our commitment to quality patient care remains the same. And although our look is evolving, we remain focused on our mission to provide the best possible health care. Missouri Delta is YOUR hometown hospital.

New WebsiteMissouri Delta has a fresh new website,

www.missouridelta.com. The updated site is user friendly and contains information that is helpful to both patients and family members. The home page features

a search bar to find medical providers by name or specialty, a bill pay button to conveniently pay either

your hospital or clinic invoice, and tabs linking to special pages, such as the Foundation or Career Opportunities

within Missouri Delta. The Foundation website is a great way to keep up on scheduled events/fundraisers

and just added in 2018, you can now donate online.

On behalf of the Trustees and Missouri Delta Foundation, thank you for your continued support in 2018.

Your generosity contributed to the following:Respiratory Department: Bi-Paps and heaters, the heater make the air warm and moist (with temperature

regulation). This will help patients feel more comfortable when wearing BIPAPs and help patients with congestion mobilize those secretions faster.

Sleep Lab: Three new mattresses and adjustable bed frames

Mammography: SmartCurve Paddles for comfort and software upgrade

Cancer and Infusion Center: Scale with digital platform and rolling blood pressure machine with cart

Auxiliary: New Volunteer jackets and vests

Restart: Video Speech Recorder for stroke patients and Lymphedema Sleeves for patients that have had mastectomies

Scholarships: Medical and Nursing Students

We were also able to provide needed assistance to some of our fellow employees.

In 2019 the Foundation has committed to helping youth afflicted by mental illness in our area. Conditions such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder and

suicidal ideations are widespread both locally and statewide. A new 15 bed Adolescent Behavioral Health will provide inpatient treatment to adolescents ages 11-17.

Senior LifestylesFall of 2018 launched the brand new 11 bed unit for Senior Lifestyles on the second floor of Missouri Delta Medical Center. With the addition of these 11 beds Senior Lifestyles now has a total of 23 beds to service patients 55 and older in need of psychiatric treatment.

Senior Lifestyles has been a part of MDMC for over 20 years. While consistently operating at full capacity, it was recognized that there was a definite need in this area for additional beds. Plans got underway in late 2017 to build this new state of the art unit. We were very excited when the first patient was admitted in mid-October 2018. The original 12 bed unit received a major overhaul including new flooring, nurse’s stations and complete remodel of all the patient rooms. Now both units offer patients a beautiful environment to address their mental health needs.

Senior Lifestyles serves patients ages 55 and older dealing with behavior that poses a risk to either themselves or others. They may be experiencing aggressive or assaultive behaviors, hallucinations, paranoia, and even sleep disturbances to name a few. The unit was recently recognized as the Clinical Program of the Year for their outstanding clinical outcomes.

Once again the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon was held in October at First Baptist

Church. Attendees heard the stories of two breast cancer survivors: Dottie Limbaugh, diagnosed

over 40 years ago and Julie O’Brien, diagnosed September 2017. Our thanks to Dottie and Julie

for their inspiring and encouraging words. The hospital provided over 370 delicious lunches

for both eat-in and carry–out. Kiley Adams of Barndoors and Shutters graciously donated her photography skills for the ever-growing

Survivor Wall. Over $13,000 was raised this year, the money raised will help with uninsured and

under-insured patients receiving Mammograms, purchasing sleeves and gloves for lymphedema

patients and a wall holder for the new SmartCurve paddles. Thank you to the community volunteers,

Sikeston High School/SCTC Skills USA Students, sponsors and businesses that donated items for

the raffles and door prizes!Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 8th for

Dear Friends,

Rural independent community hospitals throughout the country operate in a tough, competitive environment. Despite being the backbone of their communities and an essential part of the

nation’s healthcare delivery system, rural hospitals are having to redefine their strategies and focus in order to ensure their long term sustainability. Missouri Delta Medical Center has taken steps to diversify its offerings with growth outside the traditional hospital model into a comprehensive healthcare delivery

system that is integrated in all facets of healthcare.

Missouri Delta Medical Center is making steady progress expanding our primary care network. Throughout our 21 clinics in Southeast, MO, we employ over 30 primary care physicians and providers that make health

care accessible, convenient and affordable for the communities we serve. Additionally, we are part of a Medicare Accountable Care Organization and Missouri Healthnet Medical Home which provides us the opportunity to better manage patients with chronic diseases. These programs focus on proactive care management which is positively impacting the lives of our patients. Last year, Missouri Delta had over

120,000 outpatient clinic visits in communities from Chaffee to Kennett and from Charleston to Poplar Bluff.

We are building specialty capabilities and adding new service lines that will help keep patients in their communities. The number of specialists and the quality of those physicians is vitally important to us.

Recently, we have added physician coverage in the areas of Urology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Infectious Disease, Gerontology, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery and Ear, Nose and Throat.

Missouri Delta Medical Center is making significant progress forging relationships with employers. From

direct contracts to onsite health and wellness programs, we are gaining influence with both employers and employees. Missouri Delta has partnered with over 100 businesses to offer an array of workers’

compensation and employer services tailored to the requirements of the business or industry.

Despite the all the head winds and challenges rural independent community hospitals face, Missouri Delta Medical Center continues to grow and deliver top performing quality and safety scores. With a workforce

of over 800 employees and a payroll exceeding $55 million, Missouri Delta Medical Center serves as an economic engine for our community. Not only are we the center of emergency medical care, but also serve as a safety net for individuals who need medical services but can’t afford their care. Missouri Delta’s cost to treat these individuals exceeded $8 million last year. As a nonprofit community hospital, we recognize and

honor this obligation.

Missouri Delta Medical Center continues to make sizable strategic investments to renovate and expand our facilities. This past year, we finished major projects such as a new 11 bed geriatric behavioral health unit

and a 5,400 square feet patient accounts department in the basement of the Jolly Building. Moving patient accounts created room for the new 15 bed adolescent behavioral health unit that is scheduled to open at the end of this year. Renovation of the sleep lab and the existing 12 bed geriatric behavioral health unit, remodeling the front lobby and expansion of the Portageville Clinic are highlights `of other projects that took place this past year. Capital investments will continue this upcoming year with plans for a new clinic

with 18 treatment rooms that will house up to six primary care physicians and providers. However, we could not accomplish these great things if it wasn’t for the gifts and generous spirit of our donors.

Thank you for your interest and involvement in the Foundation.

Sincerely,

Jason SchrumpfPresident and CEO

Missouri Delta Quality Award

Missouri Delta Quality

Missouri Delta is #6 out of 61 hospitals in the State of Missouri for Total Performance. The Total Performance Score (TPS) is put together from 4 domains in FY 2019 (1) clinical care domain, (2) person and community engagement domain, (3) safety domain, and (4) efficiency and cost reduction domain.

Missouri Delta is ranked #2 in the State of Missouri for Safety by the Centers of Medicaid and Medicare. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) safety domain measures assess a wide set of healthcare activities that affect patients’ well-being. Patients who received high-quality care during their hospitalizations will likely have better outcomes, like reduced risk of in-hospital falls with hip fracture, bed sores, and other adverse events, reduced risk of healthcare-associated infections, and improved quality of life.

Missouri Delta Medical Center was Recognized with Quality Improvement Award

Missouri Delta Medical Center has received the TMF Hospital Quality (originally known as the Texas Medical Foundation, the company changed its name to TMF Health Quality) Improvement Gold Award, a quality improvement award from TMF Health Quality Institute in partnership with the Arkansas Hospital Associate, Oklahoma Hospital Association, Oklahoma State Office of Rural Health, Texas Hospital Associate and the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals. The award recognizes Missouri Delta Medical Center’s efforts to improve patient outcomes on select national quality measures. Out of all 557 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Acute Care Hospitals and 188 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Fifty-one hospitals earned the TMF Hospital Quality Improvement Gold Award. The Silver Award went to 50 hospitals, and Bronze award to 51.

The TMF Hospital Quality Improvement Award recognizes hospitals that are performing quality initiatives aimed at improving outcomes in patient care through their performance on specific national quality measures.

Last year was a very successful year for the MDMC Foundation. It was exciting to see the completion of the new Senior Lifestyles Unit. We had two new fundraising events: Bourbon, Burger and Blue Jeans and the Lemonade Stand. These events showed the tremendous support for our Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit from donors, staff andthe community. As the Foundation President I can’t say thank you enough to all of our donors and volunteers who made 2018a great year. To see your donations improve and grow our hospital for the community is simply amazing. In 2019 we will be kicking off the new Adolescent Behavioral Health Campaign and the Hospital Ball.On December 31, 2019 we will hold the bi-annual Hospital Ball. Thanks again to all the donors and volunteers!
