Station Manager Evelyn Massaro to Retire

This Summer Dear Public Radio 90 Members,

It is with mixed feelings that I write this letter today to let you know that I will be retiring from WNMU, Public Radio 90 in July of this year.

I have enjoyed my 30+ years at WNMU, working for both TV and FM. It’s been a challenge raising the money each year to keep things running, but the pleasure of working with such committed volunteers and listeners made the challenges worthwhile.

I’ve had the joy of working with a creative, enthusiastic staff who have a passion for public radio, so I know you’ll be in good hands when I leave.

You’ll still see me around as I’ll have more time to spend volunteering and for spending time with my elderly Dad and my 9 siblings and many nieces and nephews who live across the country.

I’m counting on all of you to sustain your support of Public Radio 90 once I retire and help it remain strong for you and future generations to enjoy and cherish.

Warm Regards,

Evelyn MassaroStation Manager

Sustaining Membership: A Simple Powerful Way to Make a Positive Difference

Becoming a Public Radio 90 Sustaining Member is a simple and powerful way to make a positive difference. Your generosity will enrich the lives of the listeners who tune to WNMU everyday.

One of every three Public Radio 90 members uses sustaining membership to give. It’s easy and convenient and provides a reliable source of revenue to help pay for their favorite programs.

This year our 568 Sustaining members have committed to give more than $147,000.

You can start your Sustaining Member-ship at just $5 a month using a bank or credit union account or a credit or debit card. The average monthly donation by our current Sustaining Members is $21 per month.

It just takes a couple minutes to sign up at WNMUFM.org or call Sarah Stanley at 906-227-9668 during regular business hours. Thanks!

Thank You For Your Support!By now, we should no longer be surprised by your generosity - you’ve come through for us so many times before. We continue to be grateful for you and your continued support. Thank you.

Your contributions are an investment in truthful, well-researched and fact-based reporting locally, nationally and internationally. When you listen to WNMU, you can know your investment is something that not only feeds your need to know, but also that of listeners across our upper Great Lakes region.

Your gifts also allow Public Radio 90 to give our music-loving community life! Whether it’s a live performance or a deep-dive into the works of lesser-known musicians, there is always something unique to experience on WNMU-FM..

During our 2021 Fundraiser campaign we heard from 201 listeners who gave an average of $145 each for a total of $29,197.

A warm Public Radio 90 welcome to our 52 new members who gave for the first time and welcome back to 13 members who reactivated their memberships during Friendraiser 2021

We also want to send a special thanks to the Huron Mountain Bakery in Marquette and Fieras Latin restaurant at NMU for donating snacks and beverages.

Our on-air fundraisers are community events with volunteers, listeners and guests dropping by the studios, but with the COVID 19 pandemic, we haven’t been allowed to have any outside visitors in to our studios since March 2020. It’s been quiet and lonely and we’re looking forward to the day when we can welcome y’all back with big bear hugs.

We can’t thank you enough for being a part of everything we do here at Public Radio 90. We’re here for you because of you.

Your investment and belief in the importance of public media across our upper Great Lakes region is what motivates our work every day.

On behalf of the entire team at Public Radio 90, we again thank you for your support!

With Sincere Thanks,

Evelyn Massaroi

Monday, March 1 through Friday, March 19, Jim Fleming reads Long Way Round: Through The Heartland By River by John Hildebrand. Wisconsin is in the midst of an identity crisis, torn by new political divisions and the old gulf between city and countryside. Cobbling rivers together, from the burly Mississippi to the slender wilds of Tyler Forks, Hildebrand navigates the beau-tiful but complicated territory of home. In once prosperous small towns, he discovers unsung heroes—lockmasters, river rats, ho-telkeepers, mechanics, environmentalists, tribal leaders, and perennial mayors—strug-gling to keep their communities afloat.
