This program, a collaboration between the North Bethesda Camera Club and PCR, began in 2002 as a six-week experiment that brought together local amateur photographers with PCR members who were interested in learning to take pictures. Bonds were forged, and the partnership and fun have been continuing ever since. PCR is very grateful to the North Bethesda Camera Club for this wonderful partnership. Our Msgr. William J. English Chorus will culminate their spring session with a spectacular performance of Broadway tunes. The concert, under the direction of program leader and music therapist Gillian McKeever, will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 7:00pm-8:00pm, at Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, 6601 Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda. PCR & COMMUNITY NEWS

PCR MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Meet Yankho Matenje

“The best part of PCR,” according to Yankho Matenje, “is being together with others like me, and I really like Mr. Adam (Gaynor) and Ms. Melissa (Wyman), who are always so friendly with me.” Yankho attends PCR’s Tricia Sullivan Respite Care II Program where he enjoys communicating with the Sunday Respite staff using his iPad, making crafts, and participating in exercise and music activities. Yankho is a student in the Learning for Independence Program at Walter Johnson High School, where he is also a member of the school’s Best Buddies chapter. Outside of school, he attends Faith & Light at Our Lady of Mercy, loves watching old classic cartoons like “Yogi Bear” and “Top Cat,” and emailing his cousins in Malawi. Yankho loves caring for his pet betta fish, Winnie. Some of his favorite foods are kiwi, pizza and salad without dressing.

PCR PROGRAM LEADER SPOTLIGHT Meet Kate Wissman

Kate Wissman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has been leading PCR’s Women’s Group for nearly 14 years. When asked about what she enjoys most about PCR, Kate mentioned that it is an honor to learn about the lives of the women in the group that she facilitates, as well as to support their development of friendships with each other and their social and emotional growth as individuals. She loves attending PCR’s

special events, the Phabulous Photographers Exhibit, and Chorus Concerts. When asked about the best part of her association with PCR, Kate said, “One of my favorite things in life is seeing PCR members having a blast, and proudly exhibiting and performing their creative work.” Outside of her work with PCR’s members, Kate has a private practice with clients who have a variety of developmental differences and their families. She likes to read and write fiction, watch Star Trek: Next Generation reruns, and walk with her dog, Tucker. Along with her wife and goddaughters, Kate has experienced many traveling adventures from snorkeling in lagoons in Mexico, to diving and swimming in caves, sailing, hiking in National Parks, and enjoying various amusement parks.
