10 Key Steps for Successful Fundraising

1. Write your story. Tell your teammates why the Epilepsy Foundation is so important to you.

2. Send your message. Tell your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers your story by email, snail mail, social media, text message and any other way you can think of!

3. Make a personal donation. Be a leader and make your own gift.

4. Set a $2,500 goal for your fundraiser. Tell everyone how much you are trying to raise.

5. Tell them what we do. Share with everyone the services and programs we provide at the Epilepsy Foundation.

6. Don’t be afraid to ask. Recruit 10+ team members with each member striving to raise $250.

7. Don’t forget anyone. You should include vendors, consultants, and businesspeople when asking for donations -- these are usually the ones who give larger donations!

8. Involve your company. Many businesses will match their employees’ charitable donations.

9, Get creative. Brainstorm with your team interesting ways to raise money: lemonade stands, car washes, and bake sales are classics!

Set a Goal Setting a fundraising goal helps put into perspective how eective your fundraising methods are. It’s also a simple, visual way to keep track of your fundraising goals and results!

We’re challenging each fundraiser to raise $2,500! Make this goal easier by breaking it up and giving everyone you recruit to fundraise an individual goal of $250!

The Power of 10 If you personally ask ten people you know to sponsor you at $10 each, you’ve already raised $100! Challenge your team to ask ten people to sponsor them at $10 each -- you’ll be amazed at the results!

What is epilepsy? Epilepsy is a generic term for a variety of seizure disorders. A person with recurring seizures is said to have epilepsy. A seizure is a brief disturbance in the electrical activity of the brain.

About the Epilepsy Foundation The Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas is the only non-profit organization solely dedicated to serving the needs of people aected by epilepsy and seizure disorders.

Even with exciting breakthroughs in research and treatment, 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime. Every four minutes someone in the U.S. in diagnosed with epilepsy.

Where does the money go? Each year the event continues to grow. We’re expecting our largest event ever, and many of our participants suer from epilepsy. Your support makes a dierence!

Funds last year allowed us to provide essential services to people in our area:

• Youth Programs • Mental Health Counseling • Medical Services for the Uninsured • Community Education

While the cost of providing these programs increases every year, the Epilepsy Foundation is committed to providing essential services at no charge to children and adults living with seizures.

Is there a dierence between a walker and a fundraiser?Yes. Walkers are those who have registered for the event and fundraisers are those who raise funds for the event. However, those who are registered walkers can be fundraisers and visa versa. It just means that you can be a walker without fundraising or you can fundraise without registering for the walk. We would love for everyone to participate to the fullest by being a walker and fundraising though!

If you have any other questions, please contact the Development Team at (210) 653-5353 or email [email protected].

How do I create a new team fundraiser? How do I join an existing team fundraiser? If you’re creating a team fundraiser:On RunSignUp, select Donate > Become a Fundraiser. From there your can create and customize your own fundraising page and team fundraising page. Share your page’s link with your friends and family and have them join you! Joining a fundraiser doesn’t automatically register you for the event, so make sure to sign up to walk if you want.

If you’re joining an existing fundraiser:On RunSignUp, select Donate > Become a Fundraiser. In the drop down where it says Join a Team Fundraiser, find your team’s name and that’s it!

Can someone join my fundraiser after they’ve registered?Yes, they can! If someone is already registered and would like to join your team, they simply have to follow the same directions to find your team fundraiser and join!

If you’re having issues adding a participant to your team, you can contact the Development Team at (210) 653-5353 or [email protected] and we will be happy to resolve the issue.

Can virtual walkers join my fundraiser?Yes! Virtual walkers can join your fundraiser. They would go through the same process as any other participant to join your fundraiser.

Can someone be on my fundraiser if they aren’t registered for the walk? Yes! Your fundraiser can consist of walkers and fundraisers. If someone would like to be a part of your team and fundraise, but NOT attend the walk, just follow these easy steps:1. Go to Walk2EndEpilepsy.com and click “Sign Up.” You will be redirected to RunSignUp.2. Go to Donate > Become a Fundraiser.3. Join or create a team fundraiser!

It’s that simple! Remember though, if someone on your team can’t attend the walk, they can always join us as a Virtual Walker.

How do I get a t-shirt? All registered walkers who raise or donate an additional $10 will receive a walk t-shirt, while supplies last. You must be a registered walker to receive a t-shirt. There is no guarantee of a t-shirt for those donating after October 11th.

When must I submit my donations? All donations not made online should be placed in an envelope and given to the representatives at the Registration table on the day of the walk. Please make sure all checks are made payable to the “Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas.”
