The following programs are part of the Ephrata Recreation Center’s Summer Municipal Recreation Program, which is sponsored in full

by Akron Borough, Clay Township and Ephrata Borough and partially by Ephrata Township. These programs are free for

residents of the fully sponsoring municipalities. Ephrata Twp. residents and nonresidents must pay the

class price listed with each program.

Classes are held at the Ephrata Community Pool and are taught by qualified Water Safety Instructors and trained aides. Lessons include safety skills along

with swimming skills. Ages 5 - 15. Classes are daily for a two-week period. Registration limited to one session.

Level 1 - Introduction to Underwater Level 2 - Back/Front Float Level 3 - Freestyle/Backstroke Level 4 - Stroke Refinement Level 5 - Introduction to competitive swimming Session 1: June 17 - June 28 OR Session 2: July 8 - July 19 OR Session 3: July 29 - Aug 9

Boys & Girls Lacrosse Camp This program for boys and girls in grades 2 - 7 will introduce young athletes to one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports. Lacrosse combines the speed of soccer and the strategy of hockey for an exciting, fast-paced game that kids of all athletic abilities can enjoy. Directed by the Ephrata Boys Lacrosse Staff. Equipment is provided. Camp will meet at the turf field across from the Ephrata Middle School.

Youth Speed Camp Designed to improve overall athleticism, this camp will focus on leg strength and power with appropriate technique training. A variety of drills and exercises designed for sport-specific speed will be incorporated, in addition to stretching and active recovery. Camp is held at the Rec Center.

Girls’ Softball Camp New this year to the Summer Municipal program, Girls’ Softball Camp is designed for all young athletes looking to get started with their softball careers or improve the fundamentals of their game. Players will practice all skills in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Led by Ephrata High School Girls’ Softball Head Coach, Katie Yohe. Held at the Middle School ballfields.

Street Hockey Street Hockey Camp will feature organized games and instruction at the street hockey rink in Akron. Players need shin guards and a mouth guard and are welcome to bring their own sticks and goalie equipment. Equipment available for those needing it.

Tennis Camp Campers will be taught the simplicity of proper stroke production in a fun, re-laxed way with games and competition to promote the skills. This camp fosters the basics of beginning tennis so participants can immediately begin to play with correct technique. Led by high school coach Barry Christ and assisted by coach John Pepley. Camps are held at the high school tennis courts and equip-ment is provided. Limited to 12 students each camp.

Playground Games A great way for kids to focus on teamwork and athletics, Playground Games brings back the fun games of summer: Dodgeball, Kickball, Wiffleball and more. Camp meets at Roland Park in Akron.

Theater Camp This partnership with EPAC’s Center Stage Summer Theater Camp brings professional instructors and artists to campers looking to explore their interest and talent in the performing arts. Camp meets at Playhouse in the Park.

Art Camp All mediums are explored in this great camp for the budding artist, including painting, drawing, sculpture, collage and more. Cooking Camp Does your child like to help in the kitchen? Give them the sense of accomplishment they’ll get from making their own fun food recipes in our cooking camp. Each day, a new recipe will be taught to explore a range of culinary skills. Held at the Rec.

Girls’ Volleyball Camp Under the direction of the Ephrata Head Coach Mike Elliot and staff, this camp is designed to teach Volleyball players in grades 5 - 8. It’s a fun and active way to introduce campers to the basic skills of volleyball, including passing, serving, setting and hitting.

***Registration Information*** Registration forms for these programs must be submitted (be sure to use the Summer Municipal Registration form, not the regular Rec Center registration form) to the Rec Center by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. A registration form appears on the back page of this booklet. Additional forms may be picked up at the Rec or faxed. Forms may be returned by mail, dropped off or faxed. The Rec’s fax number is 717-738-1462. On Monday, May 20, Summer Municipal Programs will be randomly filled with the submitted forms. A separate form must be filled out in its entirety for each participant in each program. If a fee is required, it must accompany the registration in the form of a check or money order (no cash). Make the checks payable to the Ephrata Rec Center. If participants are registering for more than one class requiring a fee, a separate check or money order must accompany each individual registration. Walk-in registration for programs remaining open will begin on Thursday, May 23. Registrants will be notified only if a class is full and their registration cannot be accepted, otherwise, if you do not hear from us, you are in the class. The summer recreation programs consist of a variety of activities including games, contests, special events, and field trips, along with activities specific to each individual program. There are certain inherent risks found in these programs including the possibility of cuts, abrasions, bee stings, bruises, and broken bones. There is also the hazard of inclement weather and thunderstorms. In case of medical emergency, every effort will be made to contact the parents or guardian of the child. In the event parents or guardian cannot be reached, a parental or legal guardian signature at the end of this waiver will give permission to the physician selected to hospitalize, secure proper treatment for, and order injection, anesthesia, or surgery for the above mentioned child.
