Dear friends and leaders,Leadership is one of the most difficult tasks we will ever sign up for. It forces us to put ourselves out there and risk looking like a fool, it pushes us out of our comfort zones to stand out from the crowd, and it causes us to make sacrifices for others even though it may take years to see any real fruit from the investment. As we lead, there are so many things competing for our time, energy, and resources. Overtime we can find ourselves drifting off course from our original intention, purpose, or our “why” -- as individual leaders, individual student ministries, and even as a statewide student ministry movement. As we continue to pursue Jesus and the roles of leadership he has called us to, we must always remind ourselves of the missional endeavor he has set out for us individually as a disciple, as a leader, and as a movement. For this reason, our theme for Red Culture in 2019 will be “Recalibrate.”

As we launch into 2019, Red Culture Leadership Conference (RCLC19) is the perfect time to recalibrate our faith, heart, and leadership as we come together and grow our movement across the state by first growing ourselves as leaders. At RCLC19, my hope is that you will be challenged, inspired, and reminded of who you are in Christ, who you are as a leader, and who we are as a movement in Iowa.

Part of looking to see where God is taking us collectively begins with looking back at our history, theology, and shared identity. President Scott Hagan from North Central University will share with us in two of our main sessions on general leadership and heart, and Stephen Witt Music will lead us into worship. In addition, we will have a number of practical breakout sessions suitable for each member of your student ministry team, providing you with tools and experiences for your team to recalibrate on your God-given assignments as individual leaders and as a team.

Red Culture Leadership Conference is my favorite event of the year -- I can’t wait to see you there! Make plans to join us on January 25-26 at Christian Life Assembly in Des Moines as we #recalibrate on who God is calling us to be as individual leaders, individual student ministries, and as a student ministry movement in Iowa.

See you soon!

Adam Kolosik

LabsServing Alongside a Youth or Children’s Pastor

Lab Presenter: Amy Sherman As volunteer leaders we often struggle with how to better support our youth or children’s pastors. We know that great leaders lead with or without title or position. In this breakout, learn how to better serve and encourage your leaders while you serve. Amy Sherman serves in many roles as a volunteer and part-time staff at Life Church in Coralville, IA.

Discipleship Culture

Lab Presenter: Ryan LentHow do we engage the next generation into an intimate relationship with Jesus? If we’re honest, do the students in our ministries actually crave better programs or Jesus? Learn how to create a disci-pleship culture while engaging the next generation. Ryan Lent serves as the youth pastor at Community Hope As-sembly of God in Montezuma, IA.

Serving Alongside a Lead Pastor

Lab Presenter: Dan PattengillServing under a lead pastor is how we have an opportunity to be a youth or children’s pastor, leader, or volunteer. In this breakout, you will learn how to serve your lead pastor better. Dan has served as a staff pastor at two incredi-ble churches in Iowa and will help share some wisdom on how to align your ministry with the greater vision of the church. Dan currently serves at Cros-spoint Church in Waverly, IA.

Building Authentic Community

Panel Discussion Led by Kasie KolosikWe don’t set out to raise up students who live double lives- one self at church and another self the rest of the time. How then can we create communities where students feel free to share their struggles rather than being held back by them and leaving the church, or worse, leaving their faith all together? Join us as a panel of individuals talk through how we can be intentional about creat-ing authentic community in our minis-tries to help our students live out their faith in real life.

All 4 labs will be available during both the 10 AM and 10:45 AM lab rotations.

SpeakerS C O T T H A G A NScott Hagan was born in the mill town of Sedro Woolley, Washington. His childhood included moving 27 times by the time he turned 16. As he entered high school, his family settled down long enough for him to attend all four years and graduate from Enterprise High School in Redding, California, where he was an exceptional basketball player. He received scholarship offers but after giving his life “once and for all” to Christ, sensed God’s call to ministry and enrolled in a Bible college.

After graduating from college, he served as a youth pastor in San Jose, California. After seven years, Hagan returned to the Sacramento area to plant Harvest Church, which grew to an average weekly attendance of 1,700 over an 11-year period. In 2000, He was called to serve a church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. From there, he returned to California where he and his wife started Real Life Church in 2006. Over the past 11 years, Real Life Church has helped plant 10 new congregations and campuses throughout their region. Combined with ministries to local jails, public schools, coffee houses, and their innovative “Church on the Streets” ministry, over 3,000 people weekly are being impacted through their visionary efforts. In 2017, Scott made a move from pastoral to higher education leadership by accepting the role of North Central University’s president.

A natural leader, Scott Hagan has been drawn to the study and practical application of leadership inside and outside the church. He has written six books on leadership, influence, and Biblical topics, and since 1995 has written more than 60 articles appearing in publications such as Charisma Magazine, Ministries Today, Pentecostal Evangel, and Influence Magazine (formerly Enrichment Journal). He speaks regularly at conferences, seminars, and on college campuses.
