conducting mentors include Ray Cramer, Stephen Pratt, William Wakefield, Craig Pare’, Orcenith Smith, and Harry Blake. Prior to his appointment at Washington State University, Dr. Pham held similar posts at McMurry University, Western Oregon University, Salem-Keizer Public Schools, and the Beaverton (OR) School District.

Dr. Sandra Babb is an assistant professor of choral music education at Oregon State University. She received her Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Music Education, and Ph.D. in music education from Florida State University. She currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the Professional Music Teacher Education Program and conducts Bella Voce, the premier women’s choir. Her research interests include choral tone development and best practices in pre-service music educator training. She has presented research and interest sessions at state and national conferences, including the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the New York State School Music Association. Dr. Babb has published articles in the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and the Choral Journal, and she is a contributing author for the K-12 choral textbook series Voices in Concert. Prior appointments include: the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, CUNY in Queens, NY; the Gulf Coast Girl Choir in Tampa, FL; and the Pasco County Public Schools in New Port Richey, FL. Her choral ensembles have performed for the Florida, New York, and Southern Division conferences of the American Choral Directors Association. She is in frequent demand as a clinician and conductor for honor choirs throughout the United States. Dr. Babb is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association and the College Music Society. She is the advisor for the OSU chapter of NAfME and has served as the Youth and Student Activities Repertoire & Standards Chair for NY-ACDA. She is a member of the National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, and was a recipient of the Mainstream Teacher of the Year Award by the Pasco County School District Council for Exceptional Student Education.

Dr. Nikolas Caoile is a conductor, pianist, and music educator. Currently, he is the Music Director and Conductor of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Director of Orchestras at Central Washington University, and the Music Director Designate of Lake Union Civic Orchestra. Since 2017, Dr. Caoile has served as Acting Chair of the Department of Music at CWU. He served as the Conductor and Artistic Director of the Salem Chamber Orchestra from 2012-2016. He has guest conducted many other orchestras including: Auburn Symphony, Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers (OSSCS), Northwest Mahler Festival Orchestra, Rainier Symphony, Yakima Symphony, Gig Harbor Symphony, Lake Avenue Orchestra, and Olympia Symphony. In 2009, he conducted the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas in collaboration with the Christopher Wheeldon's Morphoses Dance Company at New York City Center. Nikolas participated at the Cabrillo Festival for Contemporary Music where he worked with Marin Alsop and Gustav Meier. A passionate believer in music education for all ages, Caoile has led numerous educational and community engagement concerts including the Alaska, Indiana, and Idaho All-State Orchestras, the Washington All-State Jr. Orchestra, and many regional honor orchestras in Washington, Montana, Alaska, Arizona, Oregon and Indiana. In 2016, Caoile received the Outstanding Orchestral Achievement Award from the Washington Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. He regularly presents clinics at the National Association for Music Educators Regional and State Conferences and has served as a presenter for Seattle Symphony Pre-Concert Talk series. Born in Portland, Nikolas Caoile now resides in Ellensburg, WA, with his wife, mezzo-soprano Melissa Schiel, and their son, Kieran. Dr. Caoile holds degrees in conducting and composition, and completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan. In 2013, he accepted a nomination to join Phi Beta Kappa as a member of the Willamette chapter, Delta of Oregon.

Dr. Danh Pham is a Conn-Selmer Educational Clinician, and the newly-appointed Music Director of the Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra. He currently serves as the conductor of the WSU Symphony Orchestra, and Director of Bands at Washington State University. In addition to directing the WSU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, he conducts the WSU Opera and Musical Theatre, and teaches Instrumental Conducting and Symphonic Literature courses. Dr. Pham maintains a busy conducting schedule that includes international appearances throughout Asia. He most recently returned from a conducting residency in Guangzhou, China, where he taught conducting students at Guangzhou University and conducted their symphony orchestra, university wind band and choir in a gala concert of Western and Chinese music. While in residence, he also conducted the Guangzhou Youth Cultural Palace Youth Symphony and Wind Ensemble, the Yucai Concert Band, the Foreign Language School Wind Band, and the Canton Military Band. Each summer, he returns to China to serve as a conducting-resident for the Chengdu/Sichuan International Music Camp where he is joined by a team of artists and teachers from China, the United States, Japan, Canada, and Hong Kong. At home, Dr. Pham has conducted professional and honor groups throughout the Pacific Northwest, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina, Kansas and Hawaii. Dr. Pham serves on the Collegiate Advisory Board for the Western International Band Clinic, and is a contributing Research Associate for the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series released by GIA Publications. He has presented at the National Association for Music Education (Northwest Division) Conference and the Washington Music Educators State Conference. He has also served as Producer and Editor for solo compact disc recordings that have been released by Albany and Emeritus Records. Originally, from Honolulu, Hawaii, he received his degrees from DePauw University, Indiana University, and the University of Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment at Washington State University, Dr. Pham held similar posts at McMurry University, Western Oregon University, Salem-Keizer Public School District, and the Beaverton (OR) School District.

edition (Sedlak) of the overture to Semiramide was premiered by the Gateway Chamber Orchestra at the 2015 CBDNA National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Under his direction, the CSU Marching Band has expanded its national and international reputation, including a 2013 tour of Ireland that culminated in a performance at the St. Patrick’s Festival Parade in Dublin. The band regularly performs nationally at bowl games and for the Denver Broncos. In 2015, CSU hosted the College Band Directors National Association’s Athletic Band Symposium, the first non-Power Five conference school to do so. Dr. Frey received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University in 2011. He received a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2008. As a proud Salem-Keizer alum, he returned to teach from 2002-2006 at McNary and North Salem High Schools. Dr. Frey received a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Puget Sound in 2002.
