Our priorities for the year ahead were agreed as increasing the number of young members and low paid women in the branch, training further activists, continuing to deliver and develop our Communication and Education plans and identifying ways in which we can increase our two way interaction with our members. Our Annual General meeting this year was held in the grand setting of The Old Court Room in Wake eld Town Hall. Light refreshments were provided before the meeting commenced, and it was good to see our members having an opportunity to chat and network with each other.

The meeting was opened in a timely manner by our Branch Chair, Tony Wright who welcomed everyone and promised we would move through business quickly.

Whilst our Annual General Meeting each year often feels like a roundup of how we have performed in the previous year, it is also in effect the rst meeting of the new Branch Committee as our Of cers and Stewards for the coming year are selected or rati ed. Of course it is important for our members to hear if we have met the targets we agreed at the previous AGM, and to hear an account of how we managed that, but it is just as

essential that we set and agree our plans for the year ahead.

This year reports were tabled from: Tony Wright in his capacity as Branch Chair, Education Of cer and Labour Link Of cer, Elaine Shelton in her capacity of Branch Secretary and Kirsty-Ann Dickenson in her capacity as Communication Of cer, Young Members Of cer, and LGBT+ Of cer.

The theme running through all the reports was of a busy year of change and consolidation, with experienced activists leaving and newer ones joining. Despite the changes our main targets of developing and implementing both a Communications Plan and an Education Plan were met.

The Committee and Branch Of ce staff were thanked by the Branch Secretary and the Branch Chair for pulling together and demonstrating how effective true team working can be.

The Branch Assessment Framework and new Action plan were shared with attendees. Our priorities for the year ahead were agreed as increasing the number of young members and low paid women in the branch, training further activists, continuing to deliver and develop our Communication and Education plans and identifying ways in which we can increase our two way interaction with our members. To support the delivery of this plan a new nancial budget was also approved.

The nominations received for the Branch Of cer and Steward positions were approved, with nominations from the oor for the Vice Chair and Women’s Of cer positions also being approved.

Our guest speaker Patricia Clough from the WASPI campaign was welcomed to the meeting and gave a fantastic overview of the nancial constraints women born in the 1950s or early 1960s are facing due to the changes to pensions laws, and the actions WASPI are taking to seek agreement on a phased pension arrangement for these women.

The campaign has national backing from many people including a number of MPs but they are no nearer obtaining a negotiated settlement as yet, so the ght goes on. They work very hard to keep the campaign alive, which requires both volunteers to help set up and run local groups and money raising events to fund the campaign. For more details please visit www.waspi.co.uk

The prize draw was drawn by Patricia Clough and the meeting closed with our members joining a number of the new Branch Committee for a complimentary meal at the Chinese buffet.

All in all the Annual General Meeting 2019 was a success and we would like to thank our members for sharing this experience with us.

We can con rm we will be running a Christmas Shopping trip and heading to the Pantomime again this year.

The Pantomime will be the 2.30 performance of Jack and the Beanstalk at Wake eld’s Theatre Royal on Saturday the 7th of December and for our Christmas Shopping trip we will be going to Lincoln Christmas Market on Sunday the 8th of December.

We will be sending full details including prices and how to book in a future newsletter.

Dates for your social diary

We like to ask you, our members, what you want to see from your branch. Here is what we have been up to recently…

“Why aren’t the rainbow lanyards 3-point-break? I’d love to be able to wear one on the wards”

We now have 3-point-break safety rainbow lanyards available. UNISON do not make these as standard so we had to get them created for us but now we are proud to have a supply available from the of ce. If you would like a rainbow lanyard, just call or email the of ce on 01924 316161 or [email protected] and let us know your name and address so we can get these out to you.

“Can we go somewhere different for the Christmas Shopping Trip this year?”

We recently sent out an email survey asking you where you would like to go this year. The options were Manchester, York, Lincoln, Chester and Harrogate. The place with the most votes for this year’s Christmas Trip was Lincoln, so we will be heading for Lincoln’s Christmas Market later this year.

If you have a question or a suggestion for us and would like to let us know, we always welcome feedback or queries, just contact us at [email protected] or call the of ce on 01924 316161 and we will see what we can do.
