Welcome Welcome to the latest edition of the Learning

    and Development Training Directory. This

Directory has been created in order to

    provide information about the courses

available within East Cheshire NHS Trust. The

content and layout is designed to ensure that

    planning your essential training requirements

    is made easier.

Across the trust, we work hard to ensure that

training can be delivered in the right manner,

to the right people, in the right locations.

With this in mind, do check the “Who should

attend” sections to see if the course you are

    considering is right for you.

The trust recognises that staff are its most

valuable resource and as such, supports and

encourages learning to enable the realisation

    of individual’s professional and personal

    potential.

The trust endeavours to provide high quality

    education, training and development with

the specific aim of improving patient care.

This means the trust is committed to

ensuring that staff receive appropriate and

timely training and development to ensure

    they are:

Confident and competent in their job

    role

    Able to provide person-centred, high

    quality and evidenced informed care

    Provided with the opportunity to

develop and progress in their field of

    expertise.

    The directory demonstrates the commitment

of East Cheshire NHS Trust to the goal of

    becoming a learning organisation, which

facilitates the development of all its

    members and continuously transforms itself.

At East Cheshire NHS Trust, the Learning &

Development policy lays out the annual

process by which we prioritise and plan the

training within the resources we have.

    Information gathered from the annual

Learning & Development plans help to

develop the training requirements across the

    whole trust.

John Wilbraham Rachael Charlton Chief Executive Director of HR & OD

    The Directory has been divided

    into 6 colour-coded sections:

New Starters – these courses are for

staff new to the trust and only need to

    be attended once. Click here

    Layout of the Training Directory

assists staff in fulfilling their training needs.

What type of training is it – most training is delivered face-to-face and information about the duration and the format will be listed on the course information page.

    Key to symbols used:

    Face to face training

    E-learning

    Points to consider prior

    to booking

Before applying for a study day or course, staff should ensure that the training they wish to

Each entry in the Training Directory contains concise information to assist staff and mangers in identifying, planning and prioritising training. This has been colour-coded to make it easier to locate specific training. The sections on each page include:

Who should attend – some training is aimed at different staff groups. Please check that the course is appropriate to you before booking a place.

When/How often should I attend – some courses only require attendance once whilst others require a regular update of competence.

What will I learn – this provides an overview of what delegates can expect from the session and

undertake has been agreed by their manager as part of their Personal Development Plan (PDP). The Personal Development Review or Appraisal should happen at least annually and is one of the key elements in identifying needs. In order to meet some of these needs, it will be clear and obvious as to how they can be met, for example, those on the statutory/mandatory list. Others may require some thought; a training need is not always met by a training course as there are many other ways of gaining access to learning, including shadowing, mentoring, coaching and job swaps.

If you manage a group of staff consider how you allocate individuals training throughout the year. This should ensure that rostering is easier and there is not an ‘end of year’ rush, particularly for any mandatory training.

    We hope you find

    something that

    meets your learning

    and development

    needs, but please

    feel free to contact

    us with any

    suggestions of

    courses/study days

    which you feel are

    missing.

Training Venues Training rooms are located across the trust and across the East Cheshire patch. It is beneficial to check the

location of your training before booking a place as they can be within the hospital site or in a community

    based training venue.

    E-Learning Training

There are 2 ways to access e-learning: you can use your existing smartcard or you will

be issued with a username and password. You should contact the Training Admin

Service: [email protected] for all access issues.

Please follow instructions on the e-learning guidance documents which can be found:

    http://nww.hrdirect-east.cheshirehr.nhs.uk/learning-and-development-direct/e-

    learning.htm

It should take on average 90 minutes to complete all eight modules. The modules can

be completed all together, or if this is not possible (common within healthcare

settings) you can complete the modules flexibly. All modules must be successfully

completed before you can be considered compliant.

E-Statutory & Mandatory training will only need to be completed once every three

years. For example, if you complete your e-learning in April 2013, you will not need

to complete again until April 2016.

How do I log into e-learning?

Once logged in, how do I find e-Statutory &

    Mandatory training?

    take to complete?

    E-Learning Training continued...

Clinical Mandatory Training is changing—you will now be able to complete your core clinical training

by e-learning every 3 years. This core training will be supported by additional role-specific clinical

training delivered by e- learning and classroom sessions.

Work is underway to review all role-specific training and develop a programme that is clear and easy

for staff to understand, readily accessible, avoids duplication and is relevant to the work that they do.

A matrix of e-learning requirements has been developed and will be available on HR Direct very soon

(please watch out for further communications around this).

Role-specific classroom training will also be available. The morning of the existing Clinical Statutory

and Mandatory programme will continue for staff working in the hospital setting only. The afternoon

sessions will cease from November 2015. This will enable staff in the hospital setting to update their

BLS and refresh their blood transfusion, Track & Trigger and Sepsis training. Staff working in the

community session do not need to attend this and will continue to attend BLS sessions delivered by

SJA. Please note this is an interim arrangement whilst the above are being developed.

    Apprenticeships

    What are Apprenticeships?

For further information contact: Elaine Bradbury, Workforce Development Advisor

    [email protected] or 01625 661985/07500 101855

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the

need of employers, which lead to nationally recognised qualifications. In the

NHS, primarily, but not exclusively, they can be used to develop staff in

Agenda for Change Bands 1 to 4.

Staff can access apprenticeship programmes in Business Administration,

Customer Service, Team Leading, ICT, Health & Social Care and Medical

Administration, which are delivered by local providers. There are also

apprenticeship standards in a huge range or areas including finance, leadership

    & management & HR.

    What Apprenticeships are available?

How do I know if I am eligible?

Due to a change in eligibility, apprenticeships are now available to a wider

range of people. Even if you have a degree, as long as it is in a subject

unrelated to the apprenticeship award, then you will be funded.

    Is there a cost involved?

No, as funding is now available through the Apprenticeship Levy, but there is

an expectation that you complete the course as this funding is limited. You will

also need the full support of your line manager.
