CLINTON - Sharon Sue DeMent, 29, of 601 E. Webster 5t. was found droWl1ed at 12:$ p.m. Tuesday, Dee. 8, 1981, at the west a~ess area of the CUnton Lake. Her death Is being Investigated by the DeWitt County Coroner's Office.

Mrs. DeMent was a member of the Baptist Church at Win-chester. .

She was born April 16, 1952, In Winchester, the daughter of Noah Isaac and Margaret Simmons Fowler. She married James D. DeMent July 4, 1970, in Clinton. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Brian and Jason, both at home; her mother, Margaret Fowler, Winchester; two brothers, David Fowler, Wlnchestcr, and Thomas Fowler, White Hall; and two sisters, Ann Hensley, Clinton, and Vera Penrod, Cicero.

Her funersl will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Herlngton-Cslvert Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Pratt Officiating. Burial will be in McClimans Cemetery, Hallwille .

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday .

She had served as senior diocesan chairman . of Girls Friendly (simillar to GIrl Scouts) and diocesan chairman of rellglous education.

The descendant of n pioneer Logan County family helped establish the Lincoln Hccreatlonal Association, a forerunner of the present Uncaln Park District. She was one of the Lincoln residents who worked for the retenUon of the Chautauqua grounds for the newly fanned P;)rk District. Mrs. Woods was chairman of the recreation dl'partmenl board as well as serving as secretary. She was a bn.1rd member for 20 years.

A past president of the Lincoln Branch of American University Women, she was a charter member of the League of Women Voters In Lincoln. She was a member of the state artexteMlon committee and a long-time member of the East Lincoln unit of Homemakers Extension association, formerly known as HomeBureau.

She was an honorary vice president general of the U.s. Daughters of 1812, having served as president of the local chapter as well as the state organization. During World War I and II, she was an active member of the American Red Cross. For more than 20 years she was a member of the Greater LIncoln Area Chamber of Commerce. She also was active with the Girl and Boy scouts.

During the 1953 Uncoln Cen­tennial, she wrote segmenb of the Centennial book. She also engaged In the financial appeal which raised contributions for the purchase · of the Postville Cour· thouse grounds on Fifth St.

She was a former member of the Drama League of America In Uncoln. She was also a member of The Book Club and the P.E .D. Sisterhood
