What’s New: The Autumn Edit is packed with

inspiration from the fashion and design capital of the

world - Milan, following the 21st biennial EuroCucina

furniture exhibition.

With the busy lifestyles of today, who wants a cluttered

home environment too? We take a look at how

sliding and pivot folding doors can create the ultimate

minimalist look by concealing your kitchen.

Continuing with the kitchen, we look at handles

vs. handle-less. Whether you want to reflect your

personality with statement handles, update a kitchen

with new trends like brushed chrome or scrap handles

altogether to showcase a streamlined look, we visit all

the options available when designing the kitchen of

your dreams.

Thinking of dipping your toe, making a splash or even

drenching your design with a feature theme? Read

page 26 for details of how subtle and more dramatic

additions can make all the difference to your space.

Sit back, relax and imagine sunning yourself in Italy

with a cappuccino and biscotti, while you explore

What’s New from Häfele this Autumn.

April of 2018 saw one of the world’s largest trade fairs solely dedicated to furniture design take place in Milan, Italy. Launched in 1974, the biennial International Kitchen Exhibition and its collateral event FTK (Technology for the Kitchen) showcases the best industry design.

Exhibits at this year’s EuroCucina embodied contemporary design, technological innovation, next generation performance, energy efficiency and ease of use. New shapes, colours and materials helped define the kitchen as a place for socialising and

interaction with the outside world.Throughout this edition of What’s New, we bring you ‘The View From EuroCucina’ – an insight into the show and the key trends we noticed during our visit. We offer insight into the trends you should be keeping an eye out for, and trends that we already see throughout the British furniture market, which show no signs of slowing down yet.

A huge Congratulations on winning our most coveted award – Studio Partner of the Year at this year’s Awards. What does winning mean to you? Thank you so much! We are very proud to have won the award, especially as we were up against some very strong competition from our industry peers.

To be recognised nationally for what we do locally is something that we are very proud of.

And it sounds like you’ve had more to celebrate since – congratulations on your 10-year anniversary! How did you celebrate? Yes, it’s certainly been an exciting few months! We hosted a cooking day for both existing and new customers at our showroom, which was a fantastic way to celebrate. We had a stunning cake made by

TimeWe always give customers enough time to ensure they are completely comfortable with their options and feel confident with their choices. We truly get to know our customers, so if we think they are choosing something that is not right for them, we have the experience to let them know and suggest alternatives. We also ensure that we spend time with our customers demonstrating how to use their kitchen most efficiently after installation – how their appliances work, for example.

TransparencyThe key, though, is clear information. Transparency allows our customers to make educated choices without fear. We know that buying a new kitchen can be a daunting task, and its so important that customers know what to expect. We find the best way to enable this is to open a dialogue between our customers, and therefore we enable customers to review their full experience on our website.

Expertise We have over 65 years of combined experience, and you’d struggle to meet a more passionate bunch. In the first instance, we’re all crazy about cooking, so our customers can trust that when we create a kitchen design, cooking is at the core. We’re also all about function, so when we’re stood in a customer’s space, during their free home design visit, we’re already visualising all the fantastic solutions that would benefit their unique requirements.

Choice The key to choice is enough, but not too much! We’re there to be the experts that help our customers narrow down their choices, and often we can do this in the first consultation, and only present our customers with the pivotal preferences upfront.

one of our existing customers, and our son sold raffle tickets for his football team, who we sponsor.

That sounds fantastic! So, what can customers expect when they walk into your showroom and how do you help them prioritise their needs? Our showroom is where the unique experience starts, and we always encourage homeowners to visit us. Most customers we meet are “stuck” or “kitchened-out” as we call it, generally because they have started by considering finer details first and are afraid of getting these decisions wrong. We talk to our customers about the fundamentals of their kitchen, starting with cooking; how they cook, when they cook, where they cook in relation to the room and worktop. We also ensure that customers future-proof their new kitchen.

We talk to customers about solutions that will have a positive impact on the way they live now and in the future, such as accessible storage, eye-level cooking and eye-level refrigeration.

Plus, all of our kitchens are built to last – that’s one of the reasons homeowners choose a KF Kitchens Kitchen!

That makes sense, so how do you balance function with style?Once the fundamentals are secured, we return to colour and interior design options. Kitchens are a balance between practicality, design and, of course, budget.

Our job is to ensure the right balance is met and allow customers to go on a journey to their perfect kitchen. Once a homeowner has committed to a kitchen from us we often spend 15 to 20 hours with them perfecting this balance.

In Italy, EuroCucina 2018 was once again dominated by clever use of space, particularly regarding concealed kitchens. While the trend has been building momentum since 2016, it continues to grow in popularity with the British furniture market. Minimalist designs and simplicity are the essence of modern/contemporary kitchens, suitable for small spaces and open-plan kitchens alike. When the worktops and hobs are hidden behind cabinetry, it transforms the kitchen into a sophisticated space that can fulfil all the traditional cooking needs. Häfele have just the products you need to implement this design.

Kettle Co. Kitchens, renowned for their craftsmanship and bespoke services, fitted a hidden kitchen for Tom and Danie Raffield; which was showcased on an episode of Grand Designs on Channel 4. The brief was for a kitchen that could blend in with the overall style of their unique timber house in Cornwall. A kitchen concealed behind the Hawa Concepta 25, supplied by Häfele, perfectly suited their requirements of creating a sleek and nature-inspired kitchen. By carefully selecting space-optimised and functional products, such as the Sweepovac, concealed shelf fittings and Loox lighting, gave the project its finishing touches.

Kate Emsley has worked as a Häfele Area Sales Manager in the North East of England for the last 3 years, having joined the business with a rich background in the kitchen industry.

Homeowners are becoming braver with their kitchen colour palettes and are increasingly looking for Kitchen Designers who are not afraid to inject some character into their designs. With the introduction of a new colour into our Minerva range of solid surface worktops, we asked two experts how they would use this as part of a larger kitchen design.

I have chosen Farrow & Ball Railings as my accent colour and Farrow & Ball Wimborne White for the remaining kitchen furniture and walls. Keeping the main theme of the kitchen natural and matching the background colour to the beautiful Minerva worktop allows for a daring dark island, accenting the striking blue flecks.

Kate’s Top Tip:

Introducing colours can define your spaces and create a focal point – perfect

for an open or broken plan space.

Minerva Worktop from Sylmar – Ice BlueThis new worktop is perfect for homeowners who are opting for the on-trend deep blue colourway, paired with beautiful, bold brass. It lends itself to a range of styles; dark or light, big or small, traditional and modern. With all the benefits of a solid surface – hard-wearing, scratch resistant and long-lasting, the Minerva worktops are easy and flexible to install. Seamless joints and smooth finishes make for an ideal choice for a central island which has become an incredibly desirable feature. Some solid surfaces have restricted sizes and unsightly joints, which can create limitations within the design.Minerva worktops are easy to install with standard woodworking equipment and they are supplied with pre-finished surfaces and edges. There’s no need for the expensive and time-consuming templating usually associated with solid surface products.

We wanted to create a harmony of eye-catching details; nothing that would detract from the final environment, but a perfect blend of expertly-crafted and individually striking textures and materials. The deep Oxford blue is the colour of the moment, especially when paired with brass accessories, making it a perfect partner for the midnight blue flecks in the Minerva worktop. The brass mesh detailing, paired with the GRAF furniture knob, creates a feel of industrial luxury – a trend we’ve seen rise in popularity in the Capital, fast-becoming a favourite for homeowners who are brave enough to make the statement.

Designing a new kitchen is an incredibly exciting time, filled with considerations from the initial layout and functionality of the living space to the finishing touches. Handles are one of the details that cement a look, bringing personality and function to a kitchen. However, handle-less finishes continue grow in popularity – a trend that is heavily influenced by European markets such as Germany and Italy. Here, we explore each style so that you can decide which option is best for you.

Handles can be a defining feature of a kitchen as well as a practical element. When chosen with care and consideration, handles can blend in subtly, contrast with or highlight features of a kitchen setting, meaning they are one of the most versatile finishing accessories available.

Reflect your personality

Whatever your preferred style of kitchen, careful handle choice can really offer personality to your design. The new GRAF 2 range is a great example of handles that bring an quirky texture and raw finish to furniture – perfect for those who want to inject something a little edgy into their design. In contrast, the U Pull range brings a sophisticated elegance for those who prefer contemporary design – available in three sleek finishes.

Be practical

Kitchen cabinets and storage areas can be harder to keep clean due to the amount they get used. Handles are durable and provide quick and easy access to cabinet contents, and their inclusion. All of the new handles introduced to the Häfele range are designed to look great whilst withstanding wear.

Increase distinction or fluidity between living areas

With the trend for open and broken plan living spaces increasing in popularity, handles become a way of defining spaces; a physical indication of different living zones or highlighting specific storage cabinets. The Lamont range offers a complete suite of handles

and knobs which can be used throughout an open / broken plan space, highlighting areas of function whilst bringing fluidity to the living space.

Update decor easily

A new kitchen should be designed and fitted to suit homeowner lifestyle today and in years to come, but just as needs change during the lifetime of a kitchen, so do trend preferences. Handles offer an easy and cost-effective way for homeowners to update their kitchen as preferences and trends evolve.

Handle-less kitchens have become a go-to design demand for luxury kitchens in Europe, and the trend is growing in prominence within British kitchen design and manufacturing. Creating a clean, seamless aesthetic, it’s easy to see why this trend is winning so many homeowners over, so could it be the right design for you?

Sleek, streamlined, uncluttered style

Clean, uninterrupted lines are fast becoming the hallmark of contemporary kitchen design, with the majority of appliances, utensils, crockery and food kept behind closed doors. After all, if a homeowner is investing in worksurfaces and splashbacks that are design features in themselves, why hide them? The handle-less trend evolves this further creating a completely streamlined style.

Smoother transition between living areas

Modern kitchen design demands a style that brings fluidity between living spaces. With kitchens increasingly serving as a space for socialising, entertaining or working in, on top of preparing and cooking food, handle-less design helps create a smooth transition for multifunctional use. Solutions such as the Line Profile handle maintain this fluidity whilst providing easy-to-access function for everyday use.

Safety

As households increasingly accommodate multi-generational living, it is important to think about design features that will be safe for users of all ages. The new Cubic Inset handles provide a flush finish without any protruding fittings or visual disruption.

Framed furniture featured heavily at the exhibition, where contrasting materials and hidden handles integrated seamlessly for a handle-less aesthetic and provided an ultra-contemporary design finish.

Handle finishes

Colour featured heavily throughout handles that were on display - matt black and brass were popular colours, well established as go-to finishes.

A fantastic way to stay on trend but maintain a classic look is to accentuate a space with accents and accessories.

Subtle nods to a trend gives you the opportunity to see if you like the look before investing in key statement pieces, and change them up more regularly.

Accent colours have the power to transform spaces.

Whatever your style, however brave you are with design, Häfele have options from ‘dipping your toe’ to make an accent to ‘drenching your design’ in colour, and everything in between.

Regardless of the size of your space, there is always an opportunity to make a design statement. As the popularity of interior design and home improvement continues to rise,

Blacks and greys don’t have to darken or depressthe feeling within a space – they can frame, add depth and even provide added definition.

Handles, taps and small appliances are by far the easiest and most cost-effective way to achieve anaccent. Swapping out handles is a lot easier than changing the complete door, just like changing a tap is a quicker job than swapping out the whole sink.

Dark Brass GRAF 2 T HandleWith it’s beautifully bright colour and intricate

texture, the GRAF 2 bar handle is a perfect way to give your cabinets a new lease of life. With a mesh surface texture, it works well with a

modern ‘industrial’ look and has a pleasant feel when opening the door or drawer.
