2018 SUMMER PROGRAM GUIDE

REGISTRATION DAILY BEGINNING May 7, 7:00 am all Parks and Recreation class offerings will be online. Please go to the City of Lander website, www.landerwyoming.org and click on the link to reg-ister. We will have computers available in the office for use starting at 7:45 am. Doors will open at 7:45 am for all other summer program offerings.

IMPORTANT NOTICES PARKS & RECREATION POLICY– It is the policy of the city of Lander Parks and Recreation Department to partially waive tuition fees for children who are unable to pay the full fee for participation in city parks and recreation programs. To be eligi-ble, the family must earn an income below the level set and submit an affidavit stating and verifying their income. All appli-cations for reduced fees expire and need to be refilled before April 27.

In order to participate in any Parks and Recreation program, participants must first be registered, and either pay the re-quired fee, or obtain a waiver through filing of the appropriate documents and pay the partial fee. Please note that waiver spaces are limited in some programs.

***ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE CITY OF LANDER DOES NOT CARRY INSURANCE FOR INJURY TO PARTIC-IPANTS OF PROGRAMS. PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CARRY HEALTH INSURANCE OF THEIR OWN.

PAYMENT You must register online for the classes or activities at the time of registration unless other wise stated in the brochure.

WE WILL NOT SAVE SPOTS!!We no longer accept personal checks for deposits, user fees, or Parks pro-grams. We will gladly accept cash, debit, credit, and business checks . All activities are on a first come basis. (Fee listed covers the entire activity period.)

CANCELLATION The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any class or activity due to insufficient registration, lack of facilities or lack of instructor/supervisors. A full refund will be given for canceled class or activity.

REFUND No refunds will be given for any reason other than cancellation of a class or activity. If you withdraw before activity starts, credit toward another Parks and Recreation activity will be given. This credit will be applicable for one full year.

This pro-gram is designed to teach the fundamental skills of baseball and will help them if they continue playing the game. A T-shirt will be issued at the first practice. LANDER LIZ’S WACKY FISH CAMP ** Pre-schoolers and kindergartners! Explore Sinks Canyon at a camp just for you! Build forts and fairy houses, sing songs, get to know the trees and animals, and make a lot of noise out-side. At the end, invite your parents up for camping night, and howl at the moon!

ADULT TENNIS LEAGUES ** Adult beginner and intermediate tennis leagues will be put together in May and matches will begin in June. There will be a Tuesday evening league and a 7:00 am morning league. BEGINNER MOUNTAIN BIKE CLINIC** Join Stacy Wells, BICP Level 1 certified instructor, in just under two hours improve your body positioning and gain confidence on your mountain bike. Please be ready at City Park (back by the river) with mountain bike, helmet, flat shoes (vans or con-verse), no cages or clips on pedals. Inquire about rentals at Gannett Peak Sports or The Bike Mill.

SUMMER MOVIES ** This program is conducted in cooperation with the Grand Theatre. There will be 10 movies shown throughout the summer beginning June and running through Au-gust .Movies will be held every Wed. and Thurs. at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The series ticket price is just $15. Mov-ie flyer can be picked up at the parks office.

LADIES MOUNTAIN BIKE** Sign up for one or both classes. ($10 discount if signing up for both). We will explore “The Bus” April 7th and Johnny Behind the Rocks on May 19. The goal is to practice in a safe environment, get to know these areas, try new skills. Beginner class folks should be in good cardio shape, feel balanced on a mountain bike on easy dirt roads (consider taking the beginner clinic prior to this class) Intermediate class you have taken the April 7th class or are familiar with riding uphill and downhill on single track trail. Ready to try small drops and lifts.

SINKS CANYON CAVING EXTREME Come experience a guided cave adventure exploring Sinks Canyons Boulder choke cave. The cave is visitor friendly and while there are some areas where participants are on their knees most of the cave is accessible on foot. A promi-nent feature in the cave is the appearance of the Popo Agie River. Dates will be August 7 through August 11. For youth of all ages. Those 9 and under will require a parent or guardian to be present. Free! For more information contact the Sinks Canyon State Parks at 332-6333. Regis-tration will open on May 7 at the Parks office.

OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING ** Are you ready to learn the skills and thrills of safe rock climb-ing in Sinks Canyon? Spend the day with us. All climbing equip-ment is included in the cost (helmet, climbing shoes, and har-ness). If these dates don't work for you please contact [email protected] to get a group together for a day of climbing.

Little Monkeys & Guardian Climbing ** Take those little monkeys out and see them safely climb rocks with helmets, harnesses, set up ropes and climbing shoes. Be sure to have a guardian accompany child. Kids climb with par-ents or guardian. Not required to climb but kids love seeing adults getting outside their comfort zone.

Please bring sunscreen, jacket, sack lunch, and lots of water and a backpack large enough to fit these items plus some climbing gear!

CAMP WILD This wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation camp is for students entering 5th and 6th grade. Dates are June 12 to June 14 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day at the Lander City Park. Fee is $60 and is hosted by the Wyoming Game and Fish De-partment. Hands on learning about wildlife, habitats, aquatic ecology, navigation, archery , and more! YOUTH ROCK CLIMBING CAMP Join us for a week of rock climbing! We’ll focus on technique, belaying, knots, and good old fashioned fun. Climbing camp will run two hours each day at Elemental Performance + Fit-ness from Monday—Thursday and Friday will be spent climb-ing outdoors from 9 am to 3 pm. Two week long camps are offered at the following dates: June 25-29 and July 23-27. Camp is limited to ages 5-7 (8am-9:45am) and 8-14 (10am –noon). Fee is TBA. SHAKESPEARE SUMMER THEATER ACADEMY Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company opens it’s program to students ages 7-14 to participate in the Summer Academy from July 2 to July 20. Monday thru Friday 8:30 am-12:30 pm in the Lander Valley High School Auditorium. Under the direc-tion of Diane Springford and Company, This year’s play is the

comic AS YOU LIKE IT, with villains, a wrestling match, a hunter’s ballet, mistaken identities, lovers falling in love and enemies forgiving each other. ”All the World’s a Stage” come and be a player! There will be performances in City Park by the students open to the public July 19th at 6:00 pm and noon on July 20th. Tuition is $80. Please ask about scholarships and sibling discounts. CHILDREN’S HORSEBACK RIDING LESSONS One on one horseback riding lessons with an emphasis on safe handling, basic horsemanship skills, introduction to tack, and basic riding fundamentals. Riders are required to wear boots with heels, pants, and a helmet which can be supplied. Chil-dren will help groom and tack up the horse, learn to lead, mount and dismount, learn basic riding skills, learn about horse anatomy and their care. Lessons take one hour and cost $35 per lesson. Little Curious Minds Pre-K Prep Program The Pre-K program at Little Curious Minds has been designed to be both challenging and developmentally appropriate for children who are at least four and a half years old by Septem-ber and for those students who could use additional time to develop readiness skills before enrolling in a full day kindergar-ten program. Our program takes a hands-on and explorative approach to academics but still offers many traditional learn-ing opportunities you would find in a kindergarten classroom. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities designed to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally to make the adjustment to the school envi-ronment and working in groups. Camp Popo Agie The foothills of the Wind River Range will be our home base at CWC Sinks Canyon Center. Our campers will take on outdoor rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, fly-fishing, painting on canvas, and archery. The last few days will include a three night backpacking adventure in the Wind River Range where campers will learn to set up a camp, cook for themselves, map skills and leave no trace practices. It’s a taste of many outdoor activities and an immersive experience that will make a deep impact on campers, leaving them with lasting skills and confi-dence they can transfer to all aspect of their lives. LIONS AND KIWANIS PICNIC SHELTER & CITY PARK AND DILLON PARK GAZEBOS The Lions Picnic Shelter and the Gazebo at City Park, Dillon Park Gazebo, and the Kiwanis Picnic Shelter at Northside Park are available for groups. The Lions and Kiwanis shelters have cooking and serving facilities for almost any size group. The City Park Gazebo and Dillon Park Gazebo have covered picnic facilities only. All are on a reservation basis only. A refundable damage and cleanup deposit must be made at least one week prior to the reservation date. A fee will be charged for use of the shelters. LANDER URBAN FOREST COUNCIL The Lander Urban Forest Council designed, developed, and published a brochure entitled “Trees and Shrubs of Lander,

Wyoming” as a service to the public. This 63 page, full color publication highlights trees and shrubs that are growing in the Lander area and the locations of the plants. It also contains several tips and suggestions on how to plant new trees and pruning techniques. This outstanding publication is free to the public and available on line at www.landerwyoming.org.
