CAREERS SHOWCASE AND TRADE DAY

Friday 9th March was a great opportunity to host high school students, interested in a transport-related career. Over 200 students were guided around the show, to visit exhibitors and gain insight into the career options available to them. A big thank you to everyone that participated in the Careers Showcase. We have had fantastic feedback from the teachers and crew leaders who were involved, with some very interested kids that left feeling inspired.

With an ageing workforce and driver shortage in our industry, we need to make the most of any opportunity to engage with the next generation. The poor weather did not stop the students from enjoying their time at the show! There is no doubt that we will keep on improving this dimension of the show and in 2020 it will be a showcase that schools around the South Island will not want to miss. A big thanks to Hilton Haulage for providing truck rides and NZ Trucking Magazine for cooking the BBQ Lunch.

The Trade Day was another new dimension to the show, which will continue to grow in future years. It was a great opportunity to host customers or to network with the rest of the trade.

A new dimension was added to the 2018 TMC Trailers Trucking Industry Show – The TR Trucking Relay Competition. This was a teams event consisting of 4 challenges:

• Truck Maneuvering

• Forklift Loading

• Tarping a Load

• Team Truck Pull

A massive thank you to TR Group for your sponsorship and support of this new competition, it turned out to be a fantastic public spectacle! 7 teams competed throughout the day (the scores were based on accuracy and fastest time). Two teams battled it out in the final round and the grand prize was won by Team Auckland! Congratulations for being the 2018 winners and taking home the trip for 4 to the 2019 Brisbane Truck Show!

A huge thank you to the TR Group team that ran the competition, Crown for providing the forklift and judge and Tarpaulin Makers for supplying the tarp and judging.

Bring on the 2020 rematch!

A massive thank you to Carters Tyres for donating 6 wheels used on the bar leaners that were designed and built by Ineson Engineering. These were a huge hit and sold during the charity auction.
