Commission on Senior Adults (COSA)has embarked on earning an “Age Friendly Community” designation from the American Association of Retired People (AARP)
To date COSA has sponsored three community meetings to enlist residents and hear their thoughts regarding: 1) Outdoor Spaces & Buildings2) Transportation3) Housing4) Social Participation5) Respect & Social Isolation6) Civic Participation & Employment7) Communication & Information8) Community Support & Health Services

Did outreach during the past year to young men of color ~ held a Youth Symposium & Celebrate Summer & Back to School events.
Next Youth Symposium is set for March 27th in the Southfield Pavilion.
City Centre Pedestrian Loop,funded by the City Centre Advisory Board, was completed with the addition of the Northwestern Hwy Walking/Biking Pathway
Make the Loop from City Hall to Civic Center Drive, to Northwestern Service Drive, to Lahser, to 11 Mile & back to Evergreen.

Construction to begin on Red Pole Park after successful Patronicity funding campaign
One of several attractions along new Northwestern Hwy Walking/Bike pathway will be the Red Pole public art installation. Construction to begin shortly.

serious about increasing the presence of public art.
Since obtaining the Northland mall art collection, five pieces have been donated to the City.
The Pioneer Family II, by Andreas Drenters, was donated to the city by Mark Diem and installed at the Mary Thompson Farm on Evergreen.
The Southfield Public Arts Commission is advising Council on placement of art.
Sorel Etrog sculpture is one of the 18 pieces secured by the city from Northland Mall.
It recently found a new home in the south garden in front of the Municipal Building.
Additional pieces from the Northland collection will be placed in public places in the coming months.
The Boulder Garden @ Carpenter Lake
A massive natural art installation is under construction at the nature preserve.
The Boulder Garden is a gift to the city from Marshall Lasser
To be completed this summer, The Boulder Garden @Carpenter Lake will include additional boulders, plants, interpretive signage & a water feature.
RECREATION IMPROVEMENTSBeechwoods Rec Center is undergoing a $2.5 million renovation. The refurbished center is expected to reopen in April.
Inglenook Park was enhanced with the addition of a shelter next to the ball fields.
Nearly $500,000 in improvements were made to Pebblecreek Park, including a new playlot. A matching grant from the DNR covered half the cost.

➢ FARO Freestyle 3DX scanner (reconstructs crime scenes & accidents)
➢ FRED Digital Intelligence System (for forensic recovery of evidence)
City Council approved replacement cameras for police cars, new vests & replacement Tasers, speed control signs, portable digital radios & membership in the Oakland County Auto Theft Task Force.

Southfield Public Schools & Lawrence Technological University form partnershipLTU will provide $3.5 million in scholarships to Southfield students, complete with a STEM mentoring program that begins in middle school.
In return, SPS will provide use of surplus space & school athletic facilities for use by the University for its growing athletics program.
Lawrence Tech adds 4th dormitory;To open in August 2018
The 300-bed dormitory will include a bicycle garage
Football returns to LTU
after 72-year absence
Coach hired; 90 players recruited;Season begins Sept. 1 with home game;LTU will play a full schedule in the fall of 2019 as a member of the Mid-States Football Association.
