ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY:We acknowledge the Elders, families and descendants of the Wurundjeri people who have been and are the custodians of the land on which these events take place. We acknowledge that the land in which we meet was the place of age old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal and that the local Aboriginal peoples have had and continue to have a unique role in the life of these lands.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED 1. Say hello! Our office is on level 1 of

Union House. 2. Sign up to our weekly enews

‘Followspot’ for auditions and production team callouts.

3. Check out our program. If you like one of the shows, get in touch with the Student Theatre Group producing it and see if you can be involved.

STUDENT THEATRE GROUPSStudent Theatre Groups are groups of students who produce and perform their own shows, across many different types of performance from theatre, to dance and music. There are over 20 affiliated Student Theatre Groups – you can find one you like, or even start your own. Student theatre is co-curricular so it doesn’t matter what you are studying - anyone can participate in a wide variety of roles the groups have on offer.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAMDo you need a creative mentor? Someone to guide you in your creative process? Be a sounding board for your ideas? Support you through your project? Or maybe you just need a creative friend. Union House Theatre staff are offering dedicated mentoring for students. Mentorships are available in Theatre Direction, Arts Administration, Marketing, Production Management, Technical Production and Set Building.

Applications for this program will be advertised in our enews, Followspot. Keep an eye out. This is an opportunity not to missed.

Mari Lourey is a playwright, dramaturg and theatre maker. Over twenty years she has developed a practice of building work meticulously and collaboratively with innovative creative teams, exploring socio political themes and real world events then transforming them into dramatic works that push the boundaries of form and traditional narrative. She has a particular interest in working outside traditional methodologies of developing performance work, particularly when it enables voices and stories beyond the traditional mainstream.

Her critically acclaimed plays include Dirty Angels, Bare Witness and most recent work in development – Dirt Cloud (developed through Rodney Seaborne and Ross Trust Awards, the Australia Council Literature Board, Playwriting Australia and Melbourne Theatre Company). Her interest in sharing methods of skills development has seen her facilitate and participate in numerous workshops and master-classes over the years including co-facilitating Ilbijerri Theatre Company’s inaugural Blak Writers Lab between 2010/13, and helping establish a writers program in Broome WA where she co-facilitates a Writers Incubator with Indigenous media company Goolarri Media for part of each year. She holds a Masters in Performance Writing, VCA.

There are things we should talk about. Like, really talk about.

Part dance-theatre, part devised performance and part social commentary, things we should talk about asks what has happened to meaningful conversation – has it always been this difficult to talk about things that truly matter?
