Griffin Kinch is an incoming freshman at Hellgate High
School in Missoula. In school, he plays percussion in the
band and competes in MathCounts and Quizbowl. His
favorite subject is math. Outside of school, he plays guitar
and is in a jazz trio. He also likes to play soccer and
basketball. His main hobby is photography.
With the scholarship, Griffin will buy a pickup for his guitar
and a photography lens.
Ben Pickens is an active rising 9th grader. He plays hockey,
skis, rodeos, studies piano, and has several 4H projects in
welding, swine, shooting sports, and horse. Last year he
got to participate in Academic Olympics, Track and Cross
Country at Dillon Middle School. During past summers, he
has attended Carroll College’s Gifted Institute and several
sports camps. This summer he will head to Michigan Tech
for a week studying Material Science. Ben would like to
pursue a degree in Engineering and continue to play
hockey for fun. He loves spending time with his dogs and
playing outside with his friends in Winter and Summer.
Ben plans to put the scholarship money received towards
his college fund.
My name is Lucy Lantz, and I am from Helena, Montana. I am in
the eighth grade and enjoy camping, skiing, and hiking with my
family. I love to cook - I’m a major foodie - and can often be found
reading or writing. Piano is one of my passions, and I have been
taking lessons for nine years. This year, I enjoyed participating in
student government as the representative of my class at St.
Andrew School.
I have decided to use my scholarship money to take classes this
summer. I will be taking a pottery throwing class at the Archie Bray
Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. At the Holter Museum, I will be
taught how to create my own graphic novel and will learn digital
photography. I am looking forward to these opportunities with
excitement. They should be fun, educational experiences, and
wonderful creative outlets.
Finn Goss is currently an 8th grader at Washington Middle
School in Missoula. Finn’s favorite subjects in school are
math and science. Some activities he’s involved in are
MathCounts, Quizbowl, Yearbook, being a Student
Ambassador, Boy Scouts, and Band where he plays the alto
saxophone. He enjoys reading, walking his dog Birdie, and
camping in all seasons. He finds that baking is a major
stress reliever!
Finn plans on attending St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH in
the fall. Finn loves jazz, and he would like to put his
scholarship money towards buying a tenor saxophone.
Sean will be a freshman this coming school year at
Frenchtown High School. In Junior High, Sean was a
member of the student council for 2 years. He was a
member of the MathCounts, academic, soccer and track
teams both years. He graduated Junior High as a
valedictorian. He is currently playing soccer with the FC
Missoula-Frenchtown U17 soccer team and training with the
Mountain West Youth Track Club in Missoula. In his down
time, Sean enjoys playing a multitude of video games,
skiing, hiking, reading and travelling.
He will use the scholarship to attend the summer camp at
Carroll College Gifted Institute.
Julia is an 8th grader at Columbia Falls Junior High.
She has a wide variety of interests including reading,
Spanish, and music. In school she plays the French
horn in the school band and the trumpet in the jazz
band. Outside of school she enjoys skiing, soccer, and
travelling to different places.
Julia hasn’t decided yet how to spend the scholarship
money, but is considering a new trumpet or music
camp.
Everett Smith is an eighth grader currently attending Washington Middle School in Missoula, MT. Everett has a passion for learning and is a determined student. Some of his hobbies include reading, downhill skiing, biking, and playing Fortnite with his friends. He also participates in many extracurricular activities such as swimming, MathCounts, Quizbowl, and more. Everett’s favorite subject is math, and he also has a deep interest in computer science. He hopes to attend college and major in computer science.
Everett is uncertain of what he will use the AGATE scholarship money for – he will probably use it to further his education.
My name is Cael Koentopp, and I am a seventh grade student at Chief Joseph Middle School in Bozeman, Montana. I enjoy the outdoors, music, and reading. My favorite outdoor hobbies are golfing, skiing, hiking, and camping, and I am looking forward to a camping trip to Glacier National Park this summer. Currently, I participate in two jazz bands, one in school and the other a personal band with some of my friends. I play both the clarinet and trombone. My favorite pursuit is challenging myself academically.
I plan to use the scholarship money for online courses, specifically, John Hopkins math and science classes. I enjoyed the challenge of taking the SAT, and I appreciate the opportunity.
I am an 8th grader at Sacajawea Middle School. I
have three siblings, and I live in Bozeman. My
favorite subject is math, and I love to read. I really
enjoy pursuing academic excellence and
improving myself physically and mentally.
I plan to donate my scholarship money to a
middle eastern refugee educational foundation.
