Anonymous • 24 Oct 2018 10:20 • ANSWEREDMSU Bozeman: do you utilize the MUS Rigorous Core as means for meeting the mathproficiency requirement? The MSU website is somewhat vague and my students havegotten conflicting info when they call.

4 Comments:

Anonymous • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018, 11:09 • AllowedYes....MSU does admit students who have completed the MUS rigorous core ashaving completed the math/proficiency requirement for admission purposes. However, it is possible that a new student could still be placed in developmentalmath depending upon their ACT/SAT or math placement testing. New studentmath placement is based on MPLEX (a Bozeman based math placement exam)or ACT/SAT scores. Let us know if you have further questions. Ronda Russell2 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes

Michelle lewis • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018, 10:19 • AllowedWe ask if students have college credits on our application and we can also usually tellbased on graduation date and the semesters of college attendance. The most importantthing for students to remember is to send in their final transcripts once the dual creditshave been completed. Students can also always mention they have dual credit in theapplication under the “other info” section that most applications include. Also remindstudents (at least for Carroll) these students are not transfer students for applicationpurposes, but their credits will be transferred in as per our transfer policy, which is on theweb. This enables us to consider the student for first year merit scholarships, which arehigher than transfer awards.0 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes

At Miles Community College, merit-based scholarships are not deferred, and the studentwould need to re-apply for the year that they will attend. However, if a student wins atuition waiver or scholarship (example: we draw for and award one full year's tuitionwaiver at each Pioneer Preview Day event), those offers CAN be deferred for up to a yearuntil the student attends. This is also the case if a junior student attending Preview Daywins one of the tuition waivers - we will honor that waiver for the student when they doenroll.0 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes

Morgan ray • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018, 11:50 • AllowedStudents at FVCC must apply for scholarships for the year that they are planning to joinus. We can not defer the scholarships to another year. If a student is awarded a tuitionscholarship, those offers are good for two years, so a student might be able to apply it totheir account. They would want to contact our Financial Aid office at 406-756-3849 [email protected] to talk through their unique situation with a Financial Aidrepresentative.0 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes

1 Comment:

Anonymous • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018, 10:50 • AllowedYes...students can choose to take classes at both MSU andGallatin College (aviation is a good example) concurrently. However, if they do so, and is MSU is the primary college--they would pay MSU rates. Many like to combine aviationwith business. Others complete the aviation program and, then, choose to 'transfer' to MSU. We have great advisors inGallatin College who can help students/families look atvarious options which might best meet their needs. Let meknow if you would like further information. If the student wants to change their application fromMSU to Gallatin College they can do so by calling the MSUAdmission Office and they will just move the MSUapplication over to Gallatin College. Because the MSUAdmission Office evaluates and processes our Gallatinapplications, the system will only recognize one application. It's easy to change the application, they just need to call.Hope that helps! 406-994-2452 is the number forAdmissions. Amy leary • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018, 18:56 • AllowedGreat question! The good news is that the teamwork ofMPSEOC & MDLI will make MCIS’s data more accurate too!By us teaming together, the colleges in Montana are nowdoing at least an annual check of this data that is used byboth the MCIS system and the new Academic ProgramsSearch. Counselors, students, parents, etc. for years havebeen asking for a quick, easy, accurate search of Montana’sacademic programs. The new condensed version is meantto be a faster search with easy access for anyone to usewithout the additional steps of having to login to MCIS andsearching. However, both are great options to use, and thisteam effort will benefit both systems in making them bothaccurate and up-to-date. We hope to even eventually movetoward a mobile app too to make it even easier to quicklysee what is offered in Montana in a matter of mere seconds. We appreciate your feedback, as we are still in the initialphases of this resource. Jim oberweiser • 23 Oct 2018 10:33Remedial Classes | Can we, through EdReady, assess our seniors in the fall and then set them upwith course work through again EdReady to further prepare them for the fall semester?

2 Comments:

Erin niedge • Allowed on 25 Oct 2018, 16:23 • AllowedJim, I think that is an excellent idea. At Miles Community College, we regularly offerEdReady to our students who take a placement test, are unhappy with their results, andwant to do some brush up work before retesting. In many cases, students are able toimprove their placement and save themselves at least a semester of developmental mathby doing this. If you do this, however, I would encourage some review of the placementrequirements of the specific school the individual student hopes to attend. It may differwith an institution that requires minimum ACT/SAT scores for admission vs. an openenrollment institution that might use a tool like ACCUPLACER or an alternate placementtest. The student's math pathway also plays into this - STEM/algebra-track vs. non-algebra track. I'm not sure where you're located, but I would encourage you to reach outto a college testing center or learning center near you to see what options they also maybe able to provide.0 Upvotes | 1 Downvotes

1 Comment:

Violet hopkins- um/missoula college • Allowed on 24 Oct 2018,14:36 • AllowedHello! Because there are limited spots, the Industrialprograms like to hear from the students personally abouttheir career goals and academic preparation for theprograms. Your student should have received an emaildescribing the content of the cover letter for the Diesel orWelding program. If your student didn't receive this email, have them call the admissions office, and we can resend itvia snail mail.0 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes

They will not release the scholarship application to the student until thestudent has submitted their admissions application. They will find the link to theirscholarship application on their PURL, which is their personalized URL the link to whichthey will find in almost every email we ever send to them. Within 24 hrs of theiradmissions application being submitted a tab labeled Apply for Scholarships will appearon the left hand side of their PURL homepage. That tab will take them directly to thescholarship application. This scholarship application process is the exact same for our 4year affiliate, Montana Tech. However, students that come to uswith 32 college credits or more are then considered transfer students for the purpose ofhousing and at that point would actually no longer be required to live in the dorms theirfirst year..0 Upvotes | 0 Downvotes
