Rachel MacCheyne (Junior, Attack)IWLCA All-Region Second Team, Unanimous All-MAAC First Team

2018 Resume

MacCheyne became Niagara’s first-ever IWLCA honoree by making the West Re-gion’s Second Team. She ended the year by tying her own program record with 75 points (56 G, 19 A). Led the team with a .431 shooting percentage and 108 draw controls. She had a MAAC-best 4.24 points per game and was second in the confer-ence with 3.24 goals per game. She finished tied for 20th in the country with 6.00 draw controls per game, while her 108 draw controls were tied for 22nd in the nation.

Alexandra Higgins (Senior, Defense)Unanimous All-MAAC First Team

2018 Resume

Finished her senior season by adding two more Niagara records to her tally. Her 30 caused turnovers and 42 ground balls in 2018 pushed her to 88 and 155, respec-tively, for her career. Additionally, she corralled 88 draw controls to expand her own career mark, which she set as a junior. The 2017 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year was a two-time first-teamer, and was a second team pick in 2016.

Caroline Crump (Junior, Attack)All-MAAC Second Team

2018 Resume

Crump had hat tricks in half of Niagara’s 18 games to end the season with 44 goals. Her most dominant performance came on Feb. 25 at Duquesne, when she account-ed for seven goals in the team’s 17-14 win over the Dukes. After another strong year, she now ranks fourth all-time at Niagara in career goals (108), fifth in points (158) and seventh in assists (50). Crump was a second team pick in 2016, when she was also named a member of the All-Rookie Team.

Alexis Morales (Junior, Midfield)All-MAAC Second Team

2018 Resume

Morales accounted for 34 points (26 G, 8 A) and hit the scoresheet in 16 of the team’s 18 games. Morales’ .712 shots on goal percentage was the third-best quali-fying number on the team. She finished the season by etching her name into the Purple Eagle record books by ranking sixth all-time in goals (94) and 10th in points (107). It was Morales’ first all-conference selection since being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2016.

Meghan Howe (Freshman, Defense)MAAC All-Rookie Team

2018 Resume

Howe finished her first season with 22 ground ball pickups and 13 caused turnovers in 17 total appearances. She was one of just two Niagara freshmen to play in 17 games and led the team’s rookies in all key defensive categories. Howe continued a progrm tradition by earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team, something at least one Purple Eagle has done in every season since the award was created in 2012.

Niagara University

Founded by the Vincentian Community in 1856, Niagara University is a private liberal arts university with a strong, value-based Catholic tradition. Its four academic divisions include the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and Hospitality and Tourism Management. The univer-sity also offers an Academic Exploration program that provides a learning community for students who are undecided about their major.

Located on the Niagara River overlooking the Canadian province of Ontario, the university is at the northern limits of the city of Niagara Falls, N.Y., about four miles from the world-famous cataracts. Over 3,800 students are enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

Over the years, Niagara has evolved into a comprehensive university, offering more than 50 professional and career-oriented programs for its 2,900-plus undergraduates. More than 900 graduate students are enrolled in a variety of programs in the College of Education and in master’s programs in business, criminal justice and mental health counseling.

More than two dozen buildings dot the picturesque Niagara University campus. In 2001, the university completed an $11-million renovation of one of its more historic buildings, St. Vincent’s Hall. Built in 1906, the four-story, collegiate Gothic-style building was gutted and returned to service in less than nine months. It now houses a ground floor devoted to information technology and two floors of classrooms with the latest in instructional technology. Its fourth floor features a large atrium and serves as home of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In the fall of 2002, an $11-million apartment-style housing complex opened on campus. In August 2007, the university opened a new $18.65-million academic complex that houses the College of Business Administration and the College of Education.

Eighty-seven percent of Niagara’s students come from New York state, and more than half of that number comes from Niagara and Erie counties (57 percent). Seven percent are from out of state and 5 percent are from Canada and other foreign countries. The College of Education has a large Canadian enrollment in its graduate programs. Niagara is the only Western New York college or university with ministerial consent to offer its programs in the Province of Ontario. Nearly 1,500 students live on the Niagara campus.

All of Niagara’s colleges hold major national accreditations, including those of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International and the Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE).

Among the university’s more popular academic programs are criminology & criminal justice, psychology, busi-ness, theater studies, biology, communication studies and political science.

Niagara competes in 18 Division I NCAA sports, 17 of which are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The men’s hockey team plays in the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Among Niagara’s sports legends are National Basketball Association Hall of Fame member Calvin Murphy and former NBA coaches Frank Layden (Utah Jazz), Hubie Brown (Mem-phis Grizzlies) and the late Larry Costello (Milwaukee Bucks). Brown is also in the NBA Hall of Fame.

The university is within easy driving distance of Buffalo and To-ronto, major metro areas offering opportunities for cultural and social entertainment.
