Opportunity
High School Girl Scouts and Girl Scout volunteers have the opportunity to be a part of a unique, week-long intensive space science workshop at NASA’s premier research facility, Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The workshop will be held June 25-29, 2018 (arriving June 24). Ten councils will be selected, and following this training, each council will be required to establish sustainable Astronomy Clubs in their home council. Training will include a mixture of lively presentations by NASA scientists, hands-on activities, observations with a robotic telescope, lab tours, and outdoor experiences that will engage council-nominated teams and equip them with knowledge, tools and NASA science education materials to start astronomy clubs back home. Training will also include time for teams to engage in structured planning sessions related to the logistics of starting and sustaining their club. All travel expenses for the GSFC training are covered through this opportunity, thanks to a 5-year Cooperative Agreement (NNX16AB90A) from NASA’s Space Science Directorate through the SETI Institute.
