2018 is being remembered as the Year of the Woman. Record numbers of female candidates won seats in Congress and state houses. Courageous women spoke their truth to spark the #MeToo movement. Last year, for the first time, a majority of women were named commencement speakers at America’s top colleges. Wall Street’s glass ceiling shattered when women were hired to lead both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. A First Lieutenant made history as the first woman to lead a Marine Corps infantry platoon. And for the first time in half a century, a female was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

These steps forward are the direct result of the foundational work we do every day at Girl Scouts. We give girls the courage to find her voice. And to use it as a force for good. And for change. Like the change created by Badgerland Girl Scout Kallen who saw public park spaces under attack by invasive species in her hometown. She got to work and connected with parks authorities and came up with a solution to educate the citizens about eradicating the plants choking off native species. That’s the good work of Girl Scouts.

We give girls access to extraordinary opportunities to discover her own potential. Girls like Jessica who started attending CampHERO as a young middle schooler and soon found her passion for serving others. Today she is enrolled in classes to become an EMT and launch a career in Protective Services. All because of her Girl Scouting experiences.

There is no organization more capable or more committed to developing the future of change-makers and trailblazers than Girl Scouts. In 2018, our girls were exposed to so many exciting opportunities. Some went to camp to paddle rivers or conquer their fears on tree-top, high adventure rope courses. Others sold cookies to finance their travel to destinations including Costa Rica and Washington, D.C. One Girl Scout traveled to Texas to aid sister Girl Scouts after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Yet another Badgerland Girl Scout spent her time initiating systemic changes to a Summer Food Program. And, because of Allison’s leadership, changes were made to ensure equal access to food for all families despite language and geographic barriers.

These stories demonstrate that Girl Scouting works. Girls’ lives are changing. And the ripple effect is infinite...who knows the impact today’s Badgerland Girl Scouts will be making within their communities tomorrow! We can’t wait to see. And, with your support and dedication, we will continue to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who lead from the front.

Where Girls are First.
