2018 annual report - women's housing

2018 Annual Reportopening doors to change since 1980
Beth Benner
Dear Friends,
2018 was full of blessings for us at the Women’s Housing Coalition, and we have you to thank for that!
We continue to work with the most vulnerable of populations. Our residents all have a disability (the majority have several) that affects their ability to obtain and maintain housing. Small goals like learning to manage their anger and getting along with others all lead to being able to work on other skills like budgeting their money and working towards “job readiness.”
Because of you and your continued support, we have several highlights we want to share with you:
• 100% of our residents maintained their housing with us or moved on to other stable housing, which is a huge accomplishment.
• 22 people started new jobs or maintained their existing job.
• We started an exciting relationship with The Junior League of Baltimore. We were selected as one of their three partner organizations in Baltimore that focus on women. They hold activities throughout the year for our ladies, leading things like bingo, game nights, nutrition classes, yoga events, and much more.
Annual Report
2018A Letter from Leadership
• Our residents participated in a lovely day at Sandy Point State Park in July, where they enjoyed a delicious barbeque meal, games, and sunshine. Everyone returned home with a new beach towel, and the kids received sand toys and other games.
• We secured several capital grants. These allowed us to make significant energy enhancements to two of our buildings, which will lead to improved operating costs. Other grants allowed us to stabilize external areas that were aging but of architectural significance.
Providing high quality housing, whether in buildings we own or in those we rent from others, is a point of pride here at the WHC. Everyone is treated with dignity and respect as we believe, “There are no throw away people!”
Our residents are incredible survivors; moving along in their daily life, meeting with their case worker, and setting and working toward their individual goals are big achievements.
You have our sincere admiration and thanks for your support along the way. We appreciate all that you do and continue to do for us, especially as we approach our 40th anniversary in 2020.
Thanks for caring about our residents! Thanks for caring about the WHC!
Thank you,
Beth Benner
