HERE SINCE THE BEGINNING! Beth, Larry, Sue and Tammy2018 marks 20 years since we opened the

doors of Piper Insurance as an independent insurance agency. We had three staff members and zero clients. While opening as an independent insurance agency was daunting, it was also an exciting challenge; the change allowed us to build our agency on the foundation of “Bringing Value to the Lives of the People We Touch.”

Until 1998, Larry worked successfully for a national company, but his professional calling was moving him in another direction. “Being an independent agency means that we are not obligated to any major insurance company,” explains Christy Kager, Vice President and Larry Piper’s daughter. “Our commitment is to the CLIENTS and the clients only. That felt right to Dad twenty years ago … and that still feels right to us today.”

Now Piper Insurance has a staff of ten, services more than 3,500 clients, and -- with Christy onboard -- has spanned two generations of the Piper family. (There are five grandchildren. Will there be a third generation soon enough?)

“I have enjoyed every working day of the last twenty years,” says Larry. “And I’m looking forward to doing it for twenty more! As a team, we look forward to continuing to grow and serve this amazing community.”

Ally Hakes joined the Piper Insurance team in late 2017. She is the “Director of First Impressions,” and she is happily ready to greet

clients in the front office. Ally brought with her a number of years of sales, administrative and customer service experience. “Bringing Ally onboard was exciting for us,” said Tammy Huggins, Office Manager. “Ally is pleasant, bright and a true asset for the front office.”

She wants to live every day to the fullest!

The best vacation she ever took was one with her mom, full of adventures in Jacksonville, Florida.

She is looking forward to spring, especially daffodils and tulips.

When she was a child, she feared dark closets and monsters under her bed.

She will never try squid.

She believes ice cream fights sickness.

Q: “ What did you think you would be when you grew up?”

A: “ Wait, what do you mean? I haven’t grown up yet. My singing career will take off any day now!”

She hopes to take up kayaking someday.

Sauté onion in butter; set aside. In large pot, whisk melted

butter and flour for three to four minutes over medium

heat. Slowly whisk in Half and Half and chicken stock. Let

simmer for 20 minutes. Add broccoli, carrots, onions. Let

simmer 25 minutes until carrots and broccoli are tender.

Add salt, pepper and cheese.

¼ c flour2 c Half and Half

2 c chicken stock

½ lb fresh broccoli (about one cup)

1 c carrot, julienned
