The catalog year has been updated to the current academic year, but an earlier catalog year will be

noted IF that's the last year for that particular degree, major, minor, or concentration. Students will

likely still be in programs w/these older codes and will be allowed to complete them, but no new

students will be admitted into them.

The department code is provided for informational purposes only. It is not displayed on transcripts or

diplomas. It is primarily tied to majors, minors, concentrations, and courses in the Banner system.

Why is there a difference? Because Banner originally limited degree codes to 3-digits, even though

OFFICIALLY some of Samford's degree code abbreviations were 4-digits long (BSBA, etc.). That 3-

digit limitation is no longer in effect, but codes created before this change was made will remain as

they are.

Why is there a difference? Because Fellows degrees (and now also U2) are coded with a distinct

degree code in Banner in order to track the students in these programs. Fellows degree students

follow the regular degree/major they are pursuing, but have different Core requirements and

sometimes slightly different General Education requirements. The different code allows for this

distinction and is evident in DegreeWorks. U2 students are students who have earned a prior

Samford bachelor's degree but are returning for a second one. The U2 code helps distinguish the

first bachelor's program GPA from the second.
