these trainings to offer back at their school sites. Each team training will include the following components:

➢ Keynote Remarks: Keynote sessions will guide the theme of the year. These will be delivered by experts in the field.

➢ Break Out Sessions: Each team meeting will have a professional learning breakout sessions that focus on the following: universally designed leadership & effective tier 1 inclusive instructional practices.

➢ Team Planning Sessions: Teams will have embedded time to develop plans to support successful implementation of inclusive practices.

Below are some of the quotes from this year’s Academy:● “How do I begin? Today was so incredibly powerful for me, it is hard to name

just one important take-away... but I do have to say, I have realized today that UDL is mindset shift. Both presenters were so effective in delivering strategies and analogies to get us to fully understand UDL.”

● “Loved being able to speak with Katie Novak, she gives fantastic real-world examples and it's great to be able to ask questions in real time.”

● “The breakdown of goal, model, materials, and assessment was really helpful - having one specific area in which to focus first makes the entire concept of implementing UDL practices feel a lot more doable.”

● “I loved the tool that Kristan presented at the beginning of the team work time. Super useful!”

● “There is SO much work to do and the resources are incredibly useful!”

Virtual Training ModulesAll cohort members will be provided with new virtual training modules each year

of the academy to optimize flexible, ongoing professional development that exemplifies best practices in online learning. These modules will be designed by Dr. Katie Novak and a featured expert in the field of inclusive practice. Sample topics include:

● Inclusive practice and its connection to MTSS and UDL (featuring Dr. Katie Novak)

● Customizing the learning experiences of all students: How inclusive practices personalize education for all students (featuring Joni Degner)

● Assistive technology and its place in inclusive classrooms (featuring Joy Zabala)

● Supporting all students to sustain effort and persistence in high quality Tier I instruction (featuring Dr. Liz Berquist)

● Supporting student self-regulation and self-reflection in an inclusive learning environment (featuring Dr. George Van Horn) [Sample Protocol]

We will offer a comprehensive framework to support in-district coaching. Each participating team will assign someone to serve as a coach or leader who will facilitate the team’s implementation of inclusive practice. Coaches will participate in specific professional learning options to support their work. These sessions will focus on developing internal expertise for sustained inclusive practices implementation. Direct professional development and time for supporting problems of practice will be embedded in all sessions. As a result of the coaching sessions, participants will have a 15 hour workshop series bundle to take back to use in their schools/district. In this train the trainer model, they will have the materials and support to offer this workshop series back on their sites. This workshop series will qualify for the re-certification criteria of meeting the needs of diverse learners.

In addition, coaches will be provided multiple tools to use back in their schools, including a packaged PLC module, book group facilitation protocols, and access to online PD options such as a series of webinars and ESE’s Foundations for Inclusive Practice courses. Below are some of the quotes from this year’s coaching sessions:

● “A variety of options exist to enable coaches to be able to present UDL information to engage affective, recognition and strategic networks of adult learners. Presenting from the options provided will further model appropriate UDL principles for staff to make use of in their lesson design.”

● “I feel much more prepared to deliver UDL instruction and support to my school.”

● “Feeling supported and more comfortable understanding the UDL model.”

Technical Assistance SessionsThe central focus of these technical assistance sessions is to design systemic supports for the successful implementation of Inclusive Tier 1 Instruction. It is a time for defining what supports are needed for actions to be accomplished successfully. The Technical Assistance Providers will offer protocols, model research based practices, and offer tools and resources aligned with the team’s specific plan. They will include up to three 3-hour onsite sessions. Below are some of the quotes from this year’s TA sessions:

● “I really thought that the opportunity for us to discuss issues specific to our school through the lens of UDL was beneficial for us in planning how to roll-out UDL at our school.”

● “Mirko was incredibly helpful in our site visit today. He was knowledgeable about the resources available and did a phenomenal job guiding us through the two protocols. In addition, he answered our questions and challenged our thinking, which is an important aspect of fostering our team's development!”

Graduate CourseAll teams will be able to select one person to represent their school/district to take

a hybrid graduate level course on UDL (with three in-person sessions). The course is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of Universal Design for Learning. Graduates of the course will be prepared to teach a UDL 101 course back on site in their home schools. The course comes with an approved syllabus from a local university. Participants will receive 67.5 hours to be used toward PDPs and can purchase graduate credits directly through the college ($225) for 3 credits.

Course Description: In this course, teachers and administrators will have an opportunity to dive deeper into the UDL framework to scale and optimize UDL implementation in their learning environment. In this course, participants with varying levels of background knowledge and familiarly with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) will examine the processes of UDL and how they can implement the framework in their learning environment to design and deliver rigorous, next generation lessons and assessments. This course is a framework that can help with the challenges created by high standards and increased learner diversity to maximize learning for all students.

Outcomes for the Train the Trainer Course: Participants will leave the course with the tools to provide a universally designed course and how to engage in mastery-oriented feedback with participants.

Outcomes for In-District Course: Participants will leave the course with universally designed lessons and units, student feedback tools, and alternative assessments. Most importantly, participants will understand how to create dynamic lessons that will engage all students, regardless of variability.
