NEW FAFSA REGULATIONS ANDINSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING U.S. TAX DOCUMENTS Beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year, the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) will require your “prior prior” year tax information. For the 2017-2018 academic year, that means that you will use your 2015 tax return to complete your 2017-2018 FAFSA.

Additionally, in this JTS financial aid application, please pay close attention to the dates for requested information: some information is requested for 2015, some for 2016, and some for the upcoming 2017–2018 school year.

WHAT U.S. TAX DOCUMENTS DO WE REQUIRE?We require TWO separate tax documents from you and your parents to be submitted along with your application: 1. We require a signed copy of your and your parents’ 2015 U.S. tax return, AND 2. We require your and your parents’ 2015 Tax Return Transcript. For instructions on obtaining and submitting your tax return transcript, please see below:

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR 2015 TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPT

OPTION 1: Upload your 2015 tax information directly into your FAFSA. (This is the recommended option.) Use the IRS Data Retrieval process when completing the FAFSA online (www.fafsa.ed.gov). You will be provided with instructions to link to the IRS while completing the FAFSA. If you choose to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, required data elements will be automatically populated for you on the FAFSA.

OPTION 2: Request a copy of your 2015 Tax Return Transcript from the IRS. Use this option only if you are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in Option 1, above. To obtain a copy of your 2015 Tax Return Transcript from the IRS:1. Go to the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript.2. Click on “Get Transcript ONLINE” or “Get Transcript by MAIL” 3. Follow the instructions to order your 2015 Tax Return Transcript. (Make sure you do NOT order a Tax “Account” Transcript, as this form does not have the required information on it.)4. When you receive your Tax Return Transcript, submit it to the JTS Financial Aid Office.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT SUBMITTING YOUR TAX DOCUMENTS TO OUR OFFICE, PLEASE CONTACT THE JTS FINANCIAL AID OFFICE AT [email protected]. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT USING THE IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL AS YOU COMPLETE THE FAFSA, PLEASE USE THE FAFSA ON THE WEB “LIVE HELP” OR CALL THE FAFSA HOTLINE AT 800-4-FED-AID.
