LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN
Learn the basics of hydraulics and irrigation system installation and maintenance. This full-day, hands-on learning session covers gluing and repairing PVC pipe, installing nozzles and adjusting heads, setting and repairing electric valves, and field and controller wiring techniques. Overview of class: CIT’s are field technicians who install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. CITs: Cut and join pipe, know the limitations of different piping systems, and understand basic hydraulics Lay out and install piping and water delivery components; backflow prevention components;
mechanical, hydraulic and electrical irrigation controls; and other irrigation system components. Troubleshoot and repair irrigation components and systems. To become a CIT, you must: Register for the exam. Minimum requirement: six months or 1,000 hours of irrigation-related field
experience. Pass the irrigation technician exam. The 3-hour exam includes 100 equally-weighted, multiple choice
questions on basic irrigation principles, basic electrical principles and basic hydraulics. Comply with the Select Certified Code of Ethics. Remain in good standing. CITs must submit 20 continuing education units per 2-year cycle.

This two-day class is a comprehensive refresher for experienced contractors. Topics include soil-water-plant relationships, hydraulics, basic electricity, grounding, pumps, job safety requirements, relevant building codes, scheduling, water-use efficiency and system uniformity.
Overview of class: CICs install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. CIC’s: Execute irrigation projects to meet all specifications and requirements. Prepare installation sites, including layout, staking, excavation, boring, trenching, grading and back-filling. Cut and join pipe, know the limitations of different piping systems, and understand basic hydraulics. Lay out and install piping and water delivery components; backflow prevention components; mechanical,
hydraulic and electrical irrigation controls; and other irrigation system components. troubleshoot and repair irrigation components and systems. Understand good business practices; construction contracts and their legal rights and obligations; and licensing
laws and codes in their state
To become a CIC, you must:
Register for the exam. Minimum requirement: one year of irrigation-related work experience Pass the irrigation contractor exam. The 3-1/2 hour exam includes 150 equally-weighted, multiple choice
questions on irrigation design, irrigation installation, irrigation scheduling, water management & conservation, maintenance & repair, federal laws & codes, and general business management. Candidates have 3-1/2 hours to complete exam.
Comply with the Select Certified Code of Ethics. Remain in good standing. CIC’s must submit 20 continuing education units per 2-year cycle.
