Here at Sway Dance Center we pride ourselves on prepared and informed dancers/parents. While this packet might seem overwhelming at first glance every question you might have about our recital process is answered here.

The key to a successful show is following protocol and keeping up with dead- lines so take a moment to pull out the calendar and copy dates.

Please have your dancer attend all his/her dance classes possible from now until the

end of the year. It is important that he/she may try on her costume with the rest of

his/her class and is prepared for the performance. If a dancer is absent the day

his/her costume is released, a parent/guardian may come to the front office between

3:00pm-6:30pm Monday through Thursday to pick it up. ATTENTION: If any

costume or costume piece is lost/dropped/damaged it CANNOT be replaced.

Each and every costume bag has been triple-checked for all your dancer’s costume

pieces; once the costume bags leave Sway we are not responsible for lost or

damaged costumes or missing or damaged costume pieces. Dancers are not allowed

to perform in the recital without his/her costume. Any current balances including tuition

and any late fees must be paid in full for your dancer to take home his/her costumes.

Unless your dancer misses class, all costumes will have been tried on in your

dancer’s class-time as they arrive and fit to our satisfaction upon releasing them to you.

If your dancer’s costume does not fit to your satisfaction, you may use a tailor of

your choice and at your expense to perform any alterations. Costumes cannot

be exchanged for a different size and arrive in time for the show.

•Costume/Hair/Make-up Instructions will be provided online at

www.swaydancecenter.com under the “Recital News” Tab within a few days of

your dancer receiving his/her costume. It is important that you take note as to

what color tights and shoes you will need to have for the recital per these

provided instructions. These instructions will be detailed to each dancer’s

specific costume.

COSTUMES: When all costumes for a particular class have arrived, and have been tried on by our ages 9 & up dancers, and fit to our

satisfaction, that costume will be sent home with your dancer. Your family must have a zero balance for the month for a dancer to take home a costume, no exceptions. Your family must have a zero balance for April for your dancer to be allowed to participate in

rehearsals and perform in our Recital, no exceptions.

• Please have your dancer in Studio 1 at 4:45pm for announcements • All dancers will run Act One in order of the show up to two times at Sway Dance Center. We will begin with the Finale

both times. After your dancer has been dismissed, he/she may leave. We cannot estimate what time your individual dancer will be finished, however, you may drop off your dancers at 4:30 and pick them up at 8:00pm. You may send your dancer with water only.

• No food allowed during this rehearsal, bottled water only

DRESS REHEARSAL AND RECITAL DATES/TIMES

DRESS REHEARSAL: Full Costume, Hair & Make-up Date: Friday, May 5th Location: SMU McFarlin Auditorium Call Time/Dancer Drop-off: 4:15pm Rehearsal Time: 5:00pm

· Dancer drop-off is located in the Main Lobby down the right-hand staircase of SMU McFarlin Auditorium. Please make sure your dancer ARRIVES IN FULL HAIR AND MAKE-UP with a neatly organized bag of labeled costume pieces. Dancer may come wearing her first costume of the day. Dancers may only have bottled water in their bags DO NOT SEND FOOD OR YOU RISK DAMAGING YOUR DANCER’S COSTUME OR HIS/HER CLASSMATES. Please feed your dancer a good snack BEFORE this rehearsal and NO FOOD IS ALLOWED BACKSTAGE.

· Parents are NOT ALLOWED backstage before or during Dress Rehearsal OR during recital. · All dancers must stay backstage in assigned dressing rooms during dress rehearsal through the

Dress Rehearsal Finale. At the conclusion of the Dress Rehearsal Finale, dancers will be dismissed directly back to their dressing rooms to immediately collect all of their belongings. Dancers may not leave any of their items at SMU after the dress rehearsal. All dancers must take all of their belongings home and bring them back to SMU for the recital on Sunday. Dancers may not leave their assigned dressing room during Dress Rehearsal and the show unless called to the stage by a Sway Dance Center instructor. We must be able to quickly find all dancers in their assigned dressing rooms. Dancers are not allowed to leave until dismissed from stage after the Recital Finale.

· Parents are welcome to stay and watch Dress Rehearsal or drop off dancers for Dress Rehearsal and come back and pick up. We do not know what time this rehearsal will end, please be back by 7:30pm and you may need to wait in the audience until rehearsal concludes. Please be flexible, this rehearsal is very important to a smooth show experience for your dancer on Sunday.

· Photos and videos of your dancers are only allowed to be taken by parents at Dress Rehearsal, PLEASE NO FLASHES FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR DANCERS.

RECITAL 2017: Full Costume, Hair & Make-up Date: Sunday May 7th Location: SMU McFarlin Auditorium Call Time: 3:15pm Auditorium Doors Open: 3:30pm - DONT FORGET YOU TICKETS!!! Curtain: 4:00pm SHARP!

· You must purchase tickets online IN ADVANCE starting Thursday April 6th 12:00PM to view the show. Please visit our website www.swaydancecenter.com under the “Recital News” tab to find the Online Ticket Link. PLEASE NOTE: Sway Dance Center has two recitals on May 7th- PLEASE CAREFULLY CHOOSE YOUR TICKETS FOR YOUR DANCER’S SHOW!!! Ushers will be taking tickets and guests without a ticket will not be allowed through the auditorium doors. Online ticket purchases for reserved seating is for your convenience and organization at the recital venue. YOU MUST PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE, PRINT THEM AND PROVIDE PRINTED TICKETS TO USHERS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE AUDITORIUM.

· NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOGRAPHY IS ALLOWED AT THIS PERFORMANCE. SMU Ushers will confiscate recording devices.

· All dancers must stay backstage through the end of Finale. After the curtain closes dancers are dismissed from the stage to backstage dressing rooms to collect all items. Dancers and parents must quickly leave backstage. All items left in the dressing rooms that evening will immediately be returned to the Sway Dance Center lost & found. You may collect any Lost & Found items at Sway when we resume Summer Dance Camps/Classes.

2017 RECITAL MERCHANDISE Except for Recital Tickets, all Sway Dance Center merchandise and services are optional

expenses. Please note that filming performance choreography or taking performance photography

is strictly prohibited during the RECITAL PERFORMANCE. Please be respectful of your

teacher/choreographer’s creative rights and the privacy of other’s children. Posting any

performance/rehearsal video to social media sites is strictly prohibited. SMU Ushers will remove any

cellular devices being used for these two purposes during the show.

April 29th at Sway Dance Center. A photographer will be provided at the studio during your

dancer’s regular class times. You will not need to sign up before hand, dancer portraits will be

taken of all dancers attending classes this week. Bring your dancer to class this week in full

costume, (hair and makeup is up to you, the parent, for your dancer’s portrait)! Parents may

place Dancer portrait orders online. For more information, please see “2017 Recital Portraits”

page in this packet. The make-up Portrait date/time if your dancer misses a class this

week is Saturday April 29th at 11:30am.

• Recital Program/Program Ad Order Form is located in this packet. Please print and fill out this

form to order a program and/or program ads. This order form can be dropped off in an envelope

with your payment starting now through DEADLINE: Monday April 3rd. $3.00/program, Ad

options are $25.00 or $35.00. CASH OR CHECK ONLY WITH YOUR ORDER FORM. Programs

are a cute keepsake! You must preorder programs if you want programs for your family at the

We offer our families the opportunity to place “Good Luck” Ad’s in our recital program!! Program ads are OPTIONAL for all families. Examples of previous years’ ads can be provided at the

Sway front desk.

Step 2: We are only accepting ads completed by parents this year. Please email your completed ad in a jpeg format to [email protected] the same day you submit this order form to the front office drop-box. Limit one picture per 1⁄4 page ad and 2 pictures

per 1⁄2 page ad. In the email Subject Line please type your dancer’s FULL NAME. All ads must

adhere to the dimensions and criteria outlined in this order form. Family Business ads are welcome if they are personalized to your dancer. You must email your completed ad to us in a jpeg format for approval the same day you turn in this form and payment. Limit 3 ads per family please. Please fill out a new form for each ad request. All ads will be printed in black & white. There is only one Sway Dance Center Program for BOTH “The Starlight Show” (classes ages 3-8) and “The Stage Door” (classes ages 9 & up)

performances held on May 7th.

Step 3: Please include check or cash only (no auto-draft or credit card payments) in an envelope with this form and place envelope in our Tuition Drop-Box located inside the lobby next to the Sway front desk. DEADLINE FOR ALL PROGRAM ADS IS MONDAY, APRIL 3rd. Sway Dance Center reserves the right to change or exclude any advertisement submitted. All payments for ads and programs are non-refundable.

Step 4: Only Pre-ordered programs will be available to pick up during the rehearsals at Sway Dance Center, May 1st-May 4th. We will not have extras for sale, you must pre-order your programs.

•Dancer Drop-Off Recital Day is Located on the 1st Floor Ground Level of McFarlin Auditorium. If entering the front grand entrance doors (facing Boaz Lane) of SMU McFarlin Auditorium, take the right hand staircase down one flight. •ALL DRESSING ROOMS MUST BE ACCESSED ONLY THROUGH DANCER-DROP-OFF

•Parents are NOT ALLOWED past this point of Dancer Drop-off to the backstage area until after the Show to help collect your dancer’s items. DRESSING ROOMS:




Please use only designated campus parking garages & lots. Local businesses and residents will tow unauthorized vehicles. Some SMU parking garages will be charging 10.00/vehicle to park.
