From the Show Director2017 marks our 7th year of sharing our

love of model railroading with the public at the Denver Mart.

The show has truly become a national event with a further expanded presence of national manufacturers.

The future of the hobby requires us to work tirelessly to create new hobbyists, most of whom are youngsters and families that have had little exposure to the hobby previously. Our show is a fantastic opportunity to show all aspects of the hobby and encourage their participation.

We try to accomplish this by offering a slate of kids activities, from hands-on play to building a layout over the course of the show. Make sure to take advantage of these activities in the Kids Corner. Additionally, we give away a train set every hour of the show.

A few reminders- check out our how-to clinics to learn new modeling skills; the Company Store to bring home a reminder of the show; the fabulous operating layouts for inspiration and the chance to join one of these great organizations; the manufacturer booths to see the latest in modeling, and, of course, our vendors to take some treasures home.

The show is presented through the work of a large number of volunteers. I thank these folks for their herculean efforts. If you have an interest in helping us, talk with one of our volunteers at the Information Desk.

The Husky Stack was also the first non-articulated well car on the market. Our 70’ Husky Stack Well Car faithfully represents this important prototype with a metal-cast body to meet NMRA weight standards, body-mounted Magne-Matic® coupler for proper ride height, separate brake hardware, molded deck walkways on each end of the detailed 48’ well and all-new ASF Ride Control trucks. This car will also securely hold our all-new modern 53’ and 48’ containers as well as our existing 20’ and 40’ containers.

Build-A-Layout ProgramExpo 1 Aisle J

The show’s Build-A-Layout program teaches young hobbyists the skills necessary to build their own train layout. Over the course of the show, anyone under 18 can help with the construction of an O-gauge train layout, learning track laying, wiring and scenery making.

Anyone participating in the program has their name put into a drawing to win the completed layout and a brand new train set provided by Bachmann Trains.

Find the Build-A-Layout project in Expo 1 Aisle J. Build-A-Layout is sponsored by Bachmann Trains and Woodland Scenics.

Train StationChallenge

The show’s Train Station Challenge is a model railroad treasure hunt!

Each family receives a map of the show upon entry designating eight locations as Train Stations. Your goal is to visit all eight stations and have your map stamped at each one.

Turn your completed map in at the info desk for a chance to win a fabulous outdoor train set donated by our friends at Marklin/LGB.

Hourly Door PrizesEvery hour on the hour we give away a

pile of door prizes in addition to our train sets. These prizes range from Thomas toys to quality scale trains. While you’re on the show floor, say thanks to the following folks for supporting the show- Accurail, Bachmann Trains, Brads Trains, Chooch Enterprises, ChooChooAreUs, Colorado Model railroad Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, Cowcatcher Magazine, Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Durango & Silverton, Forney Museum of Transportation, Georgetown Loop Railroad, Intermountain Railway, Kadee, Kalmbach Publishing, Leadville, Colorado & Southern, LGB/Marklin, MicroTrains, Rapido Trains, San Juan Car Co., Scale Trains, Scenic Express, Stoddarts Ltd, Sundance Marketing, TCS, TrackOne, TW TrainWorx, Weathering Solutions, White River Productions and Woodland Scenics.

Rocky Mountain Train ShowMission Statement

The mission of the Rocky Mountain Train Show is to promote and educate the public about the hobby of model railroading by providing information and inspiration to new and current hobbyists.

The Rocky Mountain Train Show is sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Division of the Train Collectors Association. The TCA was formed in Pennsylvania in 1954 and now serves over 25,000 members across the country.

The Rocky Mountain Division covers the states of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Mon-tana and Nebraska. The division offers special first-time deals for new members.

Saturday. The folks from ColoRail will be doing

a presentation on the history and current operations of Amtrak’s Ski Train on both Saturday and Sunday. Check the monitor at the information desk for times and location.

The show also features numerous clinics covering modeling skills and railroad history over the course of the show. The up to date clinic schedule is available on the video screen at the information booth or online at www.RockyMountainTrainShow.com .

The Rocky Mountain Train Show is held in Denver the first week in March every year. At 120,000 square feet and March attendance in the 11,000 range, it is the largest show west of the Mississippi.

The roots of the show began 39 years ago when the Rocky Mountain Division of the Train Collectors Association announced its first “Holiday Meet” to be held Thanksgiving weekend, 1976. The Rocky Mountain Division was the first TCA Division to welcome the public to our shows in the early 1980s.

Show attendance grew to about 2,500 before, as with many shows, enduring a decline. Attendance dropped to about 1,200 at one point.

In 2009, the club formed a committee to look at solutions to revitalize the show. The decision was to “bet the farm” on moving the show to a world class exhibition facility, The Denver Mart.

To promote the show, an extensive advertising program was deployed. As the show started to grow, we reinvested all profits in additional advertising, which brought more people through the doors.

With stellar manufacturer attendance including Athearn, Bachmann, Blackstone Models, Broadway Limited, Chooch

that line the aisles at this year’s Rocky Moun-tain Train Show is a world waiting to be built.

Cars and locomotives, scenery materials, track and electronics that offer realism are available to bring any model railroad or di-orama to life.

Best of all, with improved ready-to-run products, bare pieces of plywood can be transformed into breathtaking scenes with just a little time and effort.

In the pages of this program, you’ll find manufacturers and dealers who have the nec-essary products to help you create a model

railroad empire of any level of detail. The N-scale Whitehurst & Pine Ridge

Railroad, the Cowcatcher Magazine’s of-ficial model railroad, is proof that prototype or freelance pikes can be constructed with a combination of ready-to-run products and hand-crafted kits.

The W&PRR was built with commer-cially produced scenery products, structures, paints, weathering supplies, ready-to-run cars and locomotives and pre-assembled track and turnouts.

Building a realistic model is quick and easy. All it takes is a little time and imagina-tion.Many of the components to create the scene at the left depicted on the N-scale Whitehurst & Pine Ridge Railroad are available from manufacturers and dealers at this year’s Rocky Mountain Train Show.
