Steel Structure Designer 2017 R2 “Connect axis to node” option This option allows the user to adjust the position of the reference axis in relation to elements, choosing whether to: align the reference axis to a section’s face; align the reference axis to the section’s center of gravity, to connect all the elements in nodes.

This improvement was added for Purlins, Side Rails, Roof Bracings and Side Bracings.

“Openings” alignment New options to align frame elements according to a reference point or system line have been added in the “Openings” tab. Now, users can control the precise setout positions of opening frames.

“Purlins & Side Rails” definition New parameters: By number, By distance allow users to more accurately determine the layout of the Purlins and Side Rails elements.

Stair & Railing Designer 2017 R2 New anchors for post connections In situations when the railing support member is a concrete element, a new connector type is available for the Post base plate allowing anchors to be selected.

The new option is available from Post > Post connection with base > Connector type.

Continuous top handrail Create standard railings with optional top and middle railings. In Stair & Railing Designer 2017 R2, there is a new option to set the top handrail to be created as a single polybeam for more accurate fabrication documents and material take-offs.

This option is available in Handrails > Top handrail > Use polybeams.

Handrail endings can also be added in the same polybeam, by checking the option “Use polybeams” in Handrails > Handrail ending.

Steel Connection Designer 2017 R2 Welded Moment End Plate In version 2017 R2, users can create a welded Moment End Plate joint by simply selecting the “enable weld” option available in the “Bolts” dialog.

A new Moment End Plate joint will be obtained by disabling the plates and bolts, and enabling welds instead to ensure the connection between column and beam. All joint verifications will be done according to EN 1993-1-8.

New “Input Assembly” tab A new “Input Assembly” tab is now available in the Geometry dialog of the Steel Connection Designer in Advance Design. This tab provides useful information about the main connected elements (beam, connection), such as the section type, steel class and geometry.

Reinforced Concrete BIM Designers

General Improvements Design check for United States and Canada Advance BIM Designers 2017 R2 integrates the design check for United States and Canada, following the standards from North American (ACI 318-14) and Canadian codes (CSA). Both the graphical user interface and the final design reports have been adapted according to the code requirements.

Bill of Materials Along with Bill of Materials tool, the total cost of the element can be calculated, in the selected currency unit, by defining the unit price for each material category. Also, the quantity for all the necessary materials (concrete, reinforcement steel and formwork) is displayed, for a quick approximation of the element’s costs.

The reports have also been updated with this information:

Reinforced Concrete Beam Designer 2017 R2 Information panel A detailed info-panel with the main checks verification and reinforcement areas, obtained in the design process, can be found in the Model view.

The information presented in the panel is a first step towards a complete design check, offering details regarding: the main verifications for concrete/reinforcement steel, cracking and deflection, values from top and bottom

fibers, as well as the Work Ratio between the effective value and the limit; reinforcement areas for the main bars (longitudinal and transverse) and the afferent design and resistance

efforts.

Import effort values through a .txt file This version includes the possibility to import manual forces through a .txt file.

All efforts must be written in the following form, for: normal forces, bending moments, shear forces and torsional efforts:

Abscissa MinimumValue MaximumValue The efforts defined in this file will be loaded for the current selected beam span and analysis load case, in Reinforced Concrete Beam Designer.

Beams as supports for other beams in Revit Previously, only columns and walls were considered supports.

For Advance BIM Designers 2017 R2, when no columns and walls are available, a beam is considered as support if some conditions are met. the beam that might be interpreted as a support must have a greater height than the main beam; it must form with the main beam an angle different than 0; if there are more than one beam respecting the previous two conditions, the chosen one is the beam

perpendicular to the main one.

If the beam does not respect these conditions, it is considered that the beam ends in a console.

Therefore, for the above case, the selected beam will be designed as having two spans, with an intermediate support.

Reinforced Concrete Column Designer 2017 R2 After defining the structural element’s geometry, loads and general assumptions, users can easily verify a reinforced concrete column section using the interaction curves, obtain reinforcement drawings or a full, detailed report of all the design checks.

Reinforced Concrete Footing Designer Bidirectional eccentricity The verification regarding the eccentricity check according to 6.5.4 from EC7 was done for each footing direction: more precisely, the article requires that special precautions be taken when the eccentricity of the loading exceeds 1/3 of the width of the rectangular footing, more clearly when eB exceeds B/3 or eL exceeds L/3.

As an improvement for this version, the design load is verified if it is within a critical ellipse, considering the fact that for bidirectional eccentricity, an ellipse equation is the limit: (ex/a) 2 + (ey/b) 2 = (1/3)2. In addition, the ellipse is graphically computed:

Bearing resistance calculation according to DIN 1054 The bearing resistance calculation has been adjusted also to the requirements of German code DIN 1054. This adjustment has implications both at user interface level and in the calculation reports.

The bearing capacity according to DIN 1054 can be calculated in different ways: With table values according to DIN 1054: these table values depend mainly on the soil type and on the

footing dimensions. In addition to these table values, for some specific situations, these table values can be modified (increased or decreased).

Defining own table values: there are cases where the soil expert gives special table values depending on the size of the footing. The client is able to define these specific table values, as well as the values increasing/decreasing options (if the increasing or decreasing of these values should be considered or not).

Bearing capacity under seismic actions according to NTC 2008 The bearing capacity calculation under seismic actions has been adjusted in accordance with the requirements of the Italian NTC 2008 code. This adjustment has implied changes at interface level and in the calculation reports.

In the interface, the possibility to choose the soil category has been implemented:

In the report, the bearing capacity formula was adjusted by introducing three new factors zq, zγ, and zc.
