2017 NJ Sustainability Summit -- Speakers Helaine Barr, Research Scientist Bureau of Energy and Sustainability, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Helaine is committed to advancing sustainability principals and programs that support New Jersey’s communities and businesses. As a Research Scientist at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), her responsibilities include coordination of the New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry, along with several other sustainability initiatives. Prior to joining the NJDEP she worked as an onsite consultant at the Philadelphia Water Department, leading major policy initiatives and programs for Philadelphia’s renowned Green City, Clean Waters program. Elyse Barone, Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator Borough of Sayreville Elyse has been working as the Recycling and Clean Communities coordinator for the Borough of Sayreville for the past 6 years. She has lectured for Rutgers University in the Alternate Recycling Certification Program, Rutgers University’s Continuing Education series for Certified Recycling Professionals, and the New Jersey Clean Communities Council’s Clean Communities Coordinator Certification course. Elyse is a member of the Association of New Jersey Recyclers (A.N.J.R.), the Borough of Sayreville Environmental and Recycling Commissions and Green Team, and currently serves as the Coordinator for the Municipal Alliance as well as the County Alliance Steering Sub-Committee Chairperson. Last year Elyse won the 2016 NJ Clean Communities Excellence in Education Award. Adam Beam, Research Analyst Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiatives, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission Adam Beam is a Research Analyst in the Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiatives at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission in Philadelphia. Adam has provided support to several projects at DVRPC related to energy use and climate change. He has provided analytical assistance to an electric vehicle analysis tool and the regional greenhouse gas inventory. Adam also analyzed historical utility data and assisted in scoping meetings for communities participating in Energy Smart DelCo’s Municipal Energy Efficiency Advantage Program aimed at reducing energy use in municipal facilities. Adam is currently leveraging his experience in solar PV zoning and permitting from Solar Ready II in his role as a SolSmart Advisor for six of the eight communities seeking SolSmart designation in Greater Philadelphia.

Jennifer M. Bredehoft, Vice President Lead New Jersey Jen has been Lead New Jersey's Vice President for Recruitment, Alumni Relations, & Communications since April 2015. She is a 2010 Lead New Jersey Fellow, and has served as a Graduate Organization Representative, Alumni Ambassador, and Chair of the Networking & Engagement Committee prior to joining LNJ's staff. With more than a decade of nonprofit experience in New Jersey, Jen was previously the Director of Growth & Development for the New Jersey Charter Schools Association and Vice President for Communications & Investor Relations with New Jersey Community Capital. Kira Campo, Program Development Manager NJ Arts Education Partnership Kira Campo is the Program Development Manager at the New Jersey Arts Education Partnership. Campo earned a BA in Social Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA in Art and Design Education from the University of the Arts. Nathan Charron, Environmental Education Coordinator HART Commuter Information Services Nathan Charron, Environmental Education Coordinator HART Commuter Information Services Nathan joined HART in 2013 as Environmental Education Coordinator. He provides assistance to municipalities as they pursue certification under the statewide Sustainable Jersey program, and provides educational programming to schools, municipalities, and the business community. Prior to joining HART, Nathan served as a Watershed Specialist with North Jersey Resource Conservation and Development. Nathan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology and Natural Resource Management from Rutgers University. Liz Compitello, AICP, Senior Research Analyst Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission Liz Compitello, AICP is a Senior Research Analyst at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission in Philadelphia. Liz leads and manages DVRPC’s energy implementation work, providing programmatic and technical support to municipalities towards implementing best practices for energy management, renewable energy development, and responding to climate change in municipal operations and community wide. Liz currently manages DVRPC’s SolSmart technical assistance efforts. Liz also has significant experience engaging municipalities in the region on energy management projects and implementation through her development and management of DVRPC’s Regional Streetlight Procurement Program, a multi-municipal effort to transition municipal streetlight infrastructure to LED in southeastern Pennsylvania and DVRPC’s Circuit Rider Program for Energy Efficiency in Local Government Operations.

Christopher Daggett, President and CEO Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Chris Daggett has been a respected leader in New Jersey’s nonprofit world for nearly 20 years, serving on a number of boards, including the Schumann Fund for New Jersey, Regional Plan Association, and The Trust for Public Land. As the independent candidate for governor in 2009, he was the first independent candidate to raise the threshold amount of money to qualify for public matching funds and to participate in public debates with the major party candidates. Previously, Chris served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of New Jersey (1982-83), Regional Administrator of the USEPA (1984-88), and Commissioner of the NJDEP (1988-89). In addition, for six years he was a managing director of William E. Simon & Sons, a private investment firm and, since 1996, has operated a brownfields development company, acquiring, remediating and redeveloping environmentally impaired real estate. Colin Driver, Director of Economic Development Borough of Somerville Colin is Director of Economic Development for the Borough of Somerville where he manages the day-to-day Redevelopment and Economic Development activities. The key component of these is the former Borough Landfill Redevelopment Area, which includes the New Jersey TRANSIT Somerville railway station. The whole area is a Brownfield Development Area (BDA). Colin was instrumental in having the Landfill Area declared a Brownfield Development Area by the NJ DEP, having the Borough declared a Transit Village by the NJ DOT, and working with the NJ EDA and Governor’s office, created innovative financing for the West Main Street Redevelopment Area. Working with the DEP Office of Brownfield Reuse, the EDA and EIT, he was able to create a unique finance package for the remediation of a portion of the former Borough Landfill Area. Working with developers, Colin has facilitated the design of Transit Oriented Developments and working with the Borough Council and Planning Board, he has been instrumental in introducing unique solutions to zoning issues and has helped create a team that is pro-active in fostering and guiding redevelopment in the Borough. Chuck Feinberg, Chairman, NJ Clean Cities Coalition and Executive VP, Greener By Design Mr. Feinberg is an established industry leader, a nationally recognized expert, and a frequent invited speaker in the alternative transportation fuels arena. In addition to his role as a Managing Partner in the sustainability consulting firm Greener by Design, Mr. Feinberg serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the nonprofit NJ Clean Cities Coalition which is the only state-wide entity focused exclusively on developing and implementing public/private partnerships to reduce the use of petroleum in the transportation sector. With a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from Tufts University, Mr. Feinberg is also admitted to the Bar in both NY and NJ, having graduated from NY Law School. Jennifer Feltis Cortese, AICP Office of Water Resources Coordination, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Jennifer works in the Office of Water Resources Coordination at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Her work includes ongoing research for the water resources program, the development of performance indicators, plan endorsement, and assistance with the combined sewer overflow (CSO) program. Previously she worked for the Office of Coastal and Land Use Planning and the Office of Planning and Sustainable Communities at the NJDEP. Jennifer currently

serves as the Chair of Sustainable Jersey's Natural Resources Task Force and has chaired the task force since the inception of the program. Gary Finger, Ombudsman NJ Board of Public Utilities Gary currently holds the position of Ombudsman to the Division of Economic Development, & Energy Policy for NJ BPU. He is charged with working with businesses and local governments to bring energy efficiencies and renewable programs to aid in lowering energy use and costs. He is a member of the State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) through the Dept. of Labor and he reviews grant applications for companies seeking to upgrade energy related skills of their workers. Gary is a member of the Clean Energy Technology Innovation, through Economic Development, which provides grant opportunities to companies implementing new clean energy technology. He is also a member of the Innovative Technology Work Group, which serves in an advisory capacity to the Energy Master Plan regarding new relevant technologies. Ryan Gergely, Research Scientist Bureau of Energy and Sustainability, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Ryan Gergely is a member of the Bureau of Energy and Sustainability within the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. As a Research Scientist operating within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, his primary focus is conducting research to help influence policy decisions that will help the State transition to a clean and sustainable energy future—with an emphasis on transitioning the transportation sector towards electric and other alternative fueled vehicles.

Julie Lange Groth, Media Director

Association of NJ Environmental Commissions As Media Director for ANJEC (the Association for NJ Environmental Commissions) Julie Lange Groth works in both written and social media to promote the preservation of natural resources and sustainable communities. Julie edits ANJEC's quarterly magazine, the ANJEC Report, and the biweekly e-newsletter, the ANJEC News. She is also responsible for ANJEC's social media outreach and news relations, which reaches an expansive New Jersey audience. She joined ANJEC 11 years ago after a long career in advertising, marketing and public relations. She is the author of two books.

Renee Haider, Associate Director Sustainability Institute at TCNJ Renee Haider is the Associate Director of The Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey. The Institute administers the Sustainable Jersey municipal certification program. Prior to joining the Sustainability Institute, she was a research associate at the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University for two years and the Associate Director of the National Transit Institute at Rutgers University for 18 years. In these capacities she worked with teams of professionals from operating agencies, departments of transportation, industry associations, academic research centers, and Federal government entities to conduct applied research and develop education and training materials related to surface transportation, particularly public transit. Adrienne R. Hill, Ed.M; Ed.MS, Principal Hedgepeth/Williams Middle School of the Arts Adrienne Hill is an award winning public school educator on a mission to help change the lives of as many young people as she possibly can with her proven strategies. Using creativity, humor, compassion and high expectations, she has transformed the thinking and performance of countless students and other educators. She has turned around inner city schools in record time by changing mindsets, instructional strategies and organizational climate & culture. Mary Jerkowicz, Senior Program Monitor, C.R.P. Dept. of Solid Waste Management, Ocean County Mary Jerkowicz is a Senior Program Monitor for Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management in Toms River, New Jersey. She also worked as a Public Participation Specialist for the Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program/Ocean County Planning Department. Mary began working for Ocean County in 2001 where she continues to educate the public on the importance of reducing their household solid waste through recycling and reuse and how residents can manage their organic house and yard waste through composting. Mary has been a member of ANJR, the Association of New Jersey Recyclers for many years. Mary is a member of the Ocean County Master Composter Program which she also manages and is a member of the New Jersey Native Plant Society. Upcoming and continuing projects include the introduction of Native perineals to the Ocean County Backyard Compost demonstration site and promoting the 2Good2Waste/Recyclopedia internet web exchange site. Jacqueline Knox, Education Program Associate Young Audiences New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania Jacqueline Knox is an Arts Education Program Associate with Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern PA where she manages funded and non-funded projects including, the NRG Creatively STEAM Scholarship Program and the NJSCA Artist-in-Education Residency Grant Program; and oversees the recruitment and training of teaching artists. Ms. Knox is the current chair of the New Jersey Arts Education Collective and serves on the New Jersey Sustainable Schools i-STEAM Task Force. Prior to joining Young Audiences, Ms. Knox was the VP of Development for Batfilm Productions. She is a founder and former Producing Artistic Director of 12 Miles West Theatre Company in Montclair where she guided a 50-member professional resident company through six years of award-winning productions. A former stage actor and director, Ms. Knox is the weekend television host for the New Jersey Lottery.

Diane Litterer, Executive Director New Jersey Prevention Network Diane has been in the field of public health for over 25 years and has developed state-of- the-art prevention programs that have received federal, state, county and local funding. Diane manages several statewide initiatives including the Addiction Training and Workforce Development Project, the Military Family Project, the Training and Technical Assistance program for 17 Regional Prevention Coalitions throughout NJ and the IMPACT NJ Coalition. The Coalition for a Healthy NJ addresses chronic disease prevention through Get Active NJ and Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ Initiatives. Diane builds capacity among professionals to implement effective environmental strategies that create healthier communities by fostering collaboration, maximizing resources and strengthening the field of prevention and workforce development. Ron Lottermann, Municipal Recycling Coordinator Fair Lawn Borough Ron has been the Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator for the Borough of Fair Lawn since 1995 getting his start on the back of a recycling truck in 1987. He is currently certified as a Certified Public Works Administrator (CPWM), Certified Recycling Professional (CRP), Sustainable Management Resource Professional (SRMP) and a Certified Clean Communities Coordinator (CCCC). Ron’s programs have won awards from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council in 2005 for the Litter Marshal program, in 2006 he won the educational award, the Enforcement Award in 2015 and the Municipal Coordinator award in 2015. His recycling program won an NJDEP award in 2006 for recycling achievement and he was awarded “Outstanding Achievement in Recycling” in 2015 from NJDEP. Laura Mandell, Office Manager Fund for New Jersey Laura Mandell, LeadNJ Class of 2017, works at The Fund for New Jersey as Office Manager. Under Laura’s leadership as chair of the Warren Township Green Team, Warren Township obtained the silver certification and was awarded the Innovation and Creativity award from Sustainable Jersey and an ANJEC Environmental Achievement Award for Low Impact Lists for Planning and Construction. Laura currently chairs the Warren Township Environmental Commission, co-chairs the Warren Green Team and served two terms on the Watchung Hills Regional High School Board of Education. Heather McCall, Education Program Director, Sustainable Jersey for Schools Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey As the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program Director, Heather oversees program development and management of the schools’ initiative. Heather's role with the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program builds on over 10 years of work empowering community based nonprofits. Prior to joining the Sustainable Jersey, Heather worked as the Assistant State Coordinator for the NJ Department of Community Affairs’ Main Street New Jersey & Improvement Districts Program, where she worked closely with volunteer driven downtown revitalization programs providing technical assistance and training throughout the state.

Samantha McGraw, Municipal Program Manager, Sustainable Jersey Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey Samantha manages the Sustainable Jersey municipal and school certification programs, along with the small grants program. She serves as the primary point of contact for New Jersey municipalities participating in the Sustainable Jersey program as they work toward certification. She provides program and technical assistance for municipalities and outside organizations about the program and certification process, and helps maintain the Sustainable Jersey website and contact databases. She also serves as staff support to the Waste Management Task Force. Brittany Musolino, River Friendly Coordinator Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association Brittany Musolino runs the River-Friendly Certification Programs for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, which involves working with landowners to improve their landscape practices and stormwater management. Brittany earned her B.S. in Human Ecology from Rutgers University and completed a term in the AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador Program before joining the Watershed Association's Science & Stewardship Department. Steven Neale, Director of Communications Department of Community Services, Township of Verona Steve was born and raised in Verona, NJ and still lives there with his wife and dog. He has worked for the Township of Verona for the past 10 years in many different areas, but right now he is the Director of Communications. Steve is very passionate about sustainability and giving back to the community. Steve also oversees the town’s sustainability initiatives and chairs Verona’s green team, Sustainable Verona. He is also the current chair of the recently renamed, Sustainable Essex Alliance. Steve has been a member of the Verona Volunteer Fire Dept. for 9 years and just recently became Lieutenant, and recently combined his passion for the environment and firefighting by joining forces with like-minded firefighters in the UK and Australia to form a new non-profit organization called the Global Firefighters Climate Alliance. Christopher C. Obropta, Ph.D., P.E, Director, NJ Water Resources Research Institute Extension Specialist, Water Resources, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Christopher C. Obropta, Ph.D., P.E is the Director of the New Jersey Water Resources Research Institute, an Extension Specialist in Water Resources with Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and an Associate Professor with the Department of Environmental Sciences at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University. Over the last several years, he and his staff have been working with communities to implement green infrastructure practices throughout the urban centers of New Jersey. These practices have been designed to be climate resilient and to help communities reduce their flooding risk.

Tony O’Donnell, Economist

Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey Tony is an Economist and Project Specialist at the Sustainability Institute. Mr. O’Donnell deals with highly specialized technical, economic, and policy topics associated with research and outreach on energy and sustainable development. He also lends support to the Sustainable Jersey program at the Institute as the co-chair of several task forces. Brittany Pfeiffer, Environmental Specialist Bureau of Mobile Sources, Bureau of Mobile Sources, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Brittany Pfeiffer works for the Bureau of Mobile Sources at the New Jersey Department of

Environmental Protection. She is a member of the team responsible for implementing strategies to

further the usage of zero emission vehicles in the state of New Jersey, and is primarily responsible for

administering the highly-successful It Pay$ to Plug In electric vehicle charging station grants program.

Rob Pirani, Program Director New York - New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program, Hudson River Foundation Robert Pirani is the program director for the New York­New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program at the Hudson River Foundation. HEP is a collaboration of government, scientists and the civic sector that helps protect and restore the harbor’s waters and habitat. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2014, Mr. Pirani was vice president for energy and environment at Regional Plan Association and executive director of the Governors Island Alliance, and served as a founding board member of the four­state Highlands Coalition, Governors Island Alliance and Brooklyn Greenway Initiative. Adam Porroni, Owner & Lead Developer Aethereal.Ink. Adam is a proud, born and raised Trentonian who cares about the growth of others and the impact of technology. He is a speaker as well as a technical consultant for financial and professional service practices and runs his own firm serving local and international clients. He is also the founder of Code for Trenton, a community-driven technology organization that offers computer science and programming education and creates apps that serve the community, the city, and fellow service-focused organizations. He serves as an advisor or official board member to various non-profits and has been deeply involved in education advocacy, school safety, and open government initiatives. Nancy Quirk, Energy Program Manager Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey Nancy Quirk serves as Energy Program Manager for Sustainable Jersey, providing guidance to local governments on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Her background includes engagement with local efforts to address waste management, energy efficiency, and sustainability planning. After Katrina, she worked with a university-community outreach program to assist homeowners in rebuilding with energy efficient and hazard resilient practices and materials. Most recently her work focused on providing support to local governments in reducing the “soft costs” related to solar photovoltaic deployment.

Mary M. Reece, Ed.D. Director of Special Projects Foundation for Educational Administration Mary Manger Reece, Ed.D. is Director of Special Projects at the Foundation for Educational Administration. A past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, Mary currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Young Audiences NJ, the NJ Arts Education Partnership, and Community Action Reaches Everyone. She is a founder of Creative NJ. Mary chairs her local Environmental Commission and Sustainable Montgomery. Leonard Resto, Councilman Chatham Borough, NJ (Morris County) Len is a 22 year resident of Chatham Borough and has been a member of the Chatham Borough Council from 2010 to 2013 and from 2016 through the present. As part of his duties, Len is the Council Liaison to the Borough’s Environmental Commission, which oversees the “Pay as you Throw” program. Before seeking elective office, Len was a member and subsequently Chair of the Environmental Commission and the Green Initiatives Advisory Committee, which is now combined as a sub-set of the Environmental Commission. Christi Kobus Rokicki, MAS, CVA Vice President Development & Communications The Land Conservancy of New Jersey Christi joined the staff of The Land Conservancy, a member supported nonprofit land trust, in 2012 as the Director of Development. She works with the organizational leadership to grow resources and revenue to support The Land Conservancy’s mission to preserve and protect the Garden State’s land and water resources in perpetuity. She is a graduate of the 2015 Lead NJ Class.

Jane Rosenblatt, Program Manager New Jersey Future As program manager, Jane supports New Jersey Future’s backbone functions for the Jersey Water Works collaborative. Prior to joining New Jersey Future, Jane managed the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program, coordinating the application, selection and reporting processes. She previously worked at the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Parks and Forestry, and the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University, where she conducted research on New Jersey gubernatorial environmental policy. Norm Ruttan, President iWaste Not Systems Norm has followed a lifelong interest in science and nature, first working as a High School Science and Biology Teacher for 7 years, then as a Park Ranger and Superintendent in Canada's National Park System for 26 more years. After retiring from Parks Canada, Norm worked with a network of community conservation groups to first designate and then act as the Executive Director of Canada's 12th Biosphere Reserve. At the same time he started iWasteNot Systems, with the idea that if we can help people reduce their footprints, we might not have to work so hard to conserve nature.

Trish Sanchez, Project Coordinator Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University Trish Sanchez is a Project Coordinator at the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) at Rutgers University primarily supporting the New Jersey Safe Routes to School (NJ SRTS) program in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and with the state’s eight Transportation Management Associations (TMAs). She manages assistance to TMAs, local and regional governments, schools and school districts and other organizations with the goal of improving and encouraging students to walk and bicycle to school safely. Trish also supports Together North Jersey, the HUD-funded initiative to develop a Sustainable Communities Regional Plan and other VTC projects by managing and implementing community outreach including youth outreach to collect public input. Athena Sarafides, Sustainability Team Lead, NJ DEP Bureau of Energy and Sustainability Athena started her career at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in 1986 in the Office of Recycling where she developed and promoted waste reduction and recycling programs. With recycling in her blood, she went on to help develop and support the creation of the US Green Building Council’s NJ Chapter, the Sustainable Jersey Program and the New Jersey Sustainable Business Initiative. Athena is the Co-Chair of the Sustainable Jersey Green Design and Local Economies Task Forces. Lauren Skowronski, Program Director for Community Engagement Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey As Program Director for Community Engagement, Lauren supports our grassroots regional hubs across the state with leadership development, capacity building and technical assistance. Lauren also heads our Public Information & Engagement initiative which provides strategies to improve municipal infrastructure through more accessible public information and increased community engagement. Randall Solomon, Director Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey Randall Solomon has 20 years of experience working in government, academia, and the non-profit sector. He is one of the principals that founded and directs the Sustainable Jersey Certification program. Prior to his current position he was the founder and Executive Director of the New Jersey Sustainable State Institute at Rutgers where he worked to expand the capacity of public decision making to address sustainability. Mr. Solomon’s experience includes positions as a policy advisor on sustainable development for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities integrating land use and energy policy, director director for the non-profit New Jersey Future. Gary Sondermeyer, Vice-President of Operations Bayshore Recycling Gary serves as Vice President of Operations for the Bayshore Recycling Corp of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. Bayshore is one of New Jersey’s largest recyclers, managing seven separate, but related recycling operations on its 58 acre Eco-Complex and Energy Campus. As Vice President, Mr. Sondermeyer assists in the management of facility-wide operations and in the full build-out of the Eco-Complex and Energy Campus toward the corporate vision of running 100% green businesses powered 100% by renewable energy.

Mr. Sondermeyer joined Bayshore following retirement after 30 years of service at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection where he served as the agency’s Chief of Staff for 10 years under five different DEP Commissioners and six New Jersey Governors with a staff of 3,500 employees. Christine Symington, Program Director

Sustainable Princeton Christine is the newly appointed Program Director at Sustainable Princeton. Christine has worked with Sustainable Princeton for three years and has helped the organization with developing and implementing its energy and waste programs. She has led efforts to promote fossil fuel reduction through campaigns that resulted in 40 homes and 20 businesses performing energy saving upgrades. In collaboration with the Municipality of Princeton's Public Works Department, she secured funding and obtained approval for the installation of Princeton's first public electric vehicle charging station. To achieve Sustainable Princeton's waste reduction goals, she managed the completion of the Princeton Guide to Recycling and its delivery to 7,000 Princeton residents. In addition to overseeing Sustainable Princeton's programs, she is assists in managing the website and social media channels. Mike Thulen, ESIP Coordinator Division of Economic Development & Energy Policy New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Michael works on the Clean Energy Program for the NJ Board of Public Utilities. He is an expert on the Energy Saving Improvement Programs, and has been the ESIP Coordinator since April of 2012. He has been in the building industry for over 35 years, and has experience in bidding and contacting on the private side of government contacts for over twenty years. He was an elected official in Brick Township NJ for over twelve years. Mike has been a Building Construction Inspector and Building Official for over twenty years. Laura Torchio, Deputy Director Transportation Initiatives, Project for Public Spaces Laura Torchio has considerable expertise on Complete Streets and Safe Routes to School (SRTS), having worked on both initiatives previously for the New Jersey Department of Transportation and as a consultant with The RBA Group. During her time with the SRTS National Partnership, Ms. Torchio facilitated collaboration among New Jersey’s state, regional and local leaders to fund and implement Complete Streets and SRTS programs. Most recently, she led and managed the Project for Public Spaces Healthy Places Program making the connection between transportation and placemaking to positive health outcomes. She is a board member and past president of Bike&Walk Montclair, and helped her community pass New Jersey’s first municipal Complete Streets policy, achieve New Jersey SRTS Resource Center Gold SRTS status, and Silver Walk- and Bronze Bike Friendly Community status. Ronda Urkowitz, PP, AICP, Program Director Cross County Connection Ronda is the Program Director at Cross County Connection TMA and has served in that position for 24 years. As Program Director, she assists local and county governments with the implementation of state and federal programs and policies in all aspects of transportation planning and solutions, including complete streets, safe routes to schools, bicycle and pedestrian planning and transit services. Ronda is also a member of the Voorhees Green Team and helps with the implementation of

Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP, Executive Director National Consortium for Creative Placemaking Leonardo Vazquez is a national award-winning planner who is a leader in two emerging fields in urban planning: creative placemaking and cultural competency. He has two decades of experience in community development, community engagement, small group facilitation, local economic development, leadership development and strategic communications. With a strong focus on implementation and sustainability, he specializes in building leadership teams to oversee plans and raising funds to support planning and implementation efforts. Leigh Ann Von Hagen, Senior Research Manager Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers Leigh Ann Von Hagen AICP,PP is a Senior Research Specialist for the Voorhees Transportation Center and facilitator for the Planning Healthy Communities Initiative at Rutgers University. Ms. Von Hagen’s work focuses on developing sustainable transportation and land use solutions for communities. Leigh Ann manages the NJDOT’s Safe Routes to School Resource Center (saferoutesnj.org) and the School Crossing Guard program (njcrossingguards.org.) She conducts continuing education training on Health Impact Assessment and facilitates health in all polices discussions (phci.rutgers.edu.) She specializes in addressing pedestrian and bicycle safety and access through research, training, education, community engagement, and dissemination of information about best practices in policy and design. Linda Weber, Director, Policy and Program Development Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey As Director of Policy & Program Initiatives, Linda brings to the table over 25 years of professional planning experience in the public and private sectors. At Sustainable Jersey, she works with a wide range of stakeholders across the state to research, formulate and advance sustainability in New Jersey’s municipalities. Linda also oversees Sustainable Jersey’s resiliency program and the development of local actions to strengthen community resilience to the impacts of climate change. Throughout her work, Linda applies her extensive knowledge of planning issues and community capacity to ensure that the best practices created for NJ’s diverse municipalities are both practical and impactful. Tracey Woods, Chair

Maplewood Township Green Team

Tracey Woods has served as the chair of the Maplewood Township Green Team for three years. She is a member of the Maplewood Township Sustainability Committee, the South Orange Maplewood School District Green Team, the South Orange Maplewood Action (SOMA Action) Environmental Committee, the Maplewood-South Orange-Millburn Green Teams (MAPSOMIL Green Teams) and the Sustainable Jersey Essex County Hub. She serves as the Trash Tacklers Coordinator for the South Mountain Conservancy and is a Rent Party-BackPack Pals volunteer. Maplewood Township is a silver-level certified Sustainable Jersey town and one of only seven municipalities participating in the Sustainable Jersey Solar Challenge program. Led by Tracey, Maplewood Township supported the first prize team for Sustainable Jersey’s Coding for Community with the Waste of Energy program that addresses a chronic overheating problem in the South Orange and Maplewood School District.
