Principal’s Message
I am always amazed when the time comes to write my entry for another newsletter. I can’t believe the time has come so quickly. Spring Break is upon us, and after that there is always a mad dash to the end of the school year. I’d like to pass on a bit of information to you.
1. Our Parent Council AGM is happening April 6th. We elect our council members, and like to have a good turnout to this meeting.
2. Our parent council also put forth a recommendation to look at another school photo provider. Next year we will be trying ABC School Photography. This will mean a few changes in how photos are ordered, but we trust the experience will turn out well for our school community.
3. If you didn’t make it into parent/teacher interviews try to touch base with your child’s teacher over the next while.
4. Thanks to everyone who supported out book fair!
5. Have a great Spring Break.
Mr. Propp

Congratulations to Jaelyn Z and Mrs. Smith for winning the draw for $25 for each of them for books from the Fair! Watch for our 2 for 1 Book Fair in April 2017!
We have an exciting day of literacy celebrations happening on Friday, April 7th. We will kick off the day with the Rock and Roll Literacy Show by Sigmund Brouwer. There will be cross-graded reading and independent reading happening throughout the day. Students are asked to dress as a favorite book character.

Counsellor’s Corner
Our Bee for the month of April is
“Bee a Problem Solver”
Children are faced with a variety of problems every day. Problems can be academic or social in nature.
When kids learn how to solve their own problems they gain confidence in their ability to make good
decisions.
Kids that lack problem solving skills may complain of physical health problems such as headaches
or tummy aches in order to avoid dealing with their problems. These children may not recognize what the
real problem is, or that they have choices in how to solve their problem.
Learning how to identify what the problem is can make a big difference and often it can alleviate feelings
of
anxiety right away. Once they can identify the problem help your child to brainstorm different ways to
solve the problem and teach them if the problem does not get solved the first time to try another one of
their options.
Here are the Grade Four Leadership student tips for being a problem solver.
Play rock-paper-scissors to see who goes first
Make a list of pros and cons
Compromise
Ask a friend to help
Look up the information
Brainstorm ideas
Google it
Never give up
**NEW THIS YEAR** The absentee check has moved to an automated callout system. Please be sure to
notify the office of your child’s absence. Field trips will now be paid for as they come up throughout the year. Field trip
forms will include the cost per student associated with the trip.
Nutrition Program
Our Nutrition Program provides students with healthy snacks and lunches throughout the year. Once again an immeasurable Thank You to all parents, businesses and staff that helped to make sure our program was a success last year. The continued success of this program will rely heavily on donations. We hope that we will continue with our old partnerships and form many new ones as well. Tax receipts will be issued for any donations of $25.00 and over.
Thank you for your continued support!
Nutrition Month To help promote good nutrition, students and staff were treated to a school wide snack every Wednesday for the month of March. Snacks included, yogurt tubes, muffins with cheese strings, veggies and dip as well as smoothies. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time to help
raise nutrition awareness!
UPDATE: Jump Rope for Heart raised over $6000. Thanks to everyone who helped out.
Thank you to Access Pipeline for their generous donation of $500 for Technology in the Classroom.
Congratulations to our Safety Patrollers of the Month.
Thank you for your continued dedication in ensuring safety at our crosswalks every day!

End of Day Dismissal
Often at the end of the day, there is a lot of confusion in the front of the school as we are trying to figure out who is on the buses and who we need to account for. If you are picking your children up after school, we are going to ask that you wait in the foyer or at their dismissal door until the second dismissal bell goes. Please, do not wait outside the classroom. When the town student dismissal bell goes, students will be directed to go to the foyer, or you may go to the classroom to pick them up.
Inclement Weather
Recess
The school staff encourages students to be outside during morning and noon recesses (unless the temperature is colder than
-20ºC with wind chill). Parents are responsible to ensure that children come dressed appropriately for the weather. Hats,
toques, headbands, ski-pants, gloves or mitts and snow boots are essential for outdoor activities. Please label all outerwear
including boots and mitts.
Transportation
Parents are encouraged to ensure that their children who are riding the school bus are properly dressed for the weather condi-
tions.
School bus service may be cancelled due to inclement weather, which includes:
· A weather forecast indicating that the temperature is equal to or less than -40o Celsius, as forecasted at the Morinville
weather station.
· A school bus operator determines that, in his/her opinion, road or climatic conditions in his/her area of service would make
operation of the school bus unsafe.
Not Sure if your child’s bus is running?
