Turku University of Applied Sciences (abbr. TUAS, Finnish Turun ammattikorkeakoulu) is a

multidisciplinary higher education institution, located in the city of Turku in the Southwest Finland. The

institute began operations as a temporary polytechnic in autumn 1992. At the moment, the establishment

has approximately 9,300 students and 700 members of staff, making it one of the largest universities of

applied sciences in Finland.

Before 2006-01-10, the institution carried the English name of Turku Polytechnic.

Prof. Elżbieta Szymańska

Bialystok University of Technology, Poland

Professor of Bialystok University of Technology, Manager of the Tourism Economy Chair and

businesswoman - the partner in association The Recreation Resort “The Sailor” at the Mazury Lakes,

Poland. She is also an Adjunct Professor of the Lazarski University in Warsaw. Participant of 14

research projects and Manager of some of them. Expert in Foresight Poland 2020 and Member of Polish

Economy Association and Senator of Bialystok University of Technology (cadence 2016-2020). The

Author of about 100 publications, including 5 books). She is a member of some organizations, including

the Polish Economists Association. The major fields of her study are as follows: theory of innovations,

service sector innovativeness, tourism economics, sustainable tourism, development of

non-governmental organizations.

Keynote Speech Title: The Influence of the Environment on the Tourism Enterprises Innovativeness

Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this article is to indicate exogenous factors which affect the

innovativeness of the tourism companies.

Methods: The Author attempts to identify the main factors by creating a model, subsequently verifying

the theoretical assumptions in the context of empirical studies and comparing the results of her own

research with those carried out by other researchers. In order to achieve the objective, the questionnaire

method was used and comparison analysis.

Findings: The paper presents the results of two conducted surveys: performed on a group of 215 tourism

enterprises (hotels, travel agencies and transport enterprises) and the survey performed on a group of 42

innovative tour operators. The study showed the following - there are determinants of innovativeness in

the microeconomic environment of respondents. Customers play a major role but the cooperation with

other firms is very important, too. Innovation policy, taking into account the foresight approach to the

service sector, can contribute to the innovation of these companies, and the whole economy.

Originality: This study presents the original results with implications for both research and innovation

policy. Contribution to the development of the science theory is a model which reflects the division of

these factors into those from the micro environment and the macro environment of a tourism company.

Prof. Harri Ketamo

Tampere University of Technology, Finland

Adjunct Professor Harri Ketamo, Ph.D., is an independent researcher and start-up entrepreneur.

Currently he is founder of HeadAI ltd (AI/robotics) and adjunct professor at Tampere University of

Technology. Ketamo has published 86 international peer-reviewed research articles and had more than

200 presentations in international forums. Previously he has been e.g. Academy of Finland -granted

post-doc researcher, founder of gameMiner (game AI/data mining), director of education at Satakunta

University of Applied Sciences and founder of SkillPixels ltd (games based learning). Ketamo's research

interests are related to artificial intelligence, learning sciences and semantic computing. He has received

several international awards and nominations related to his R&D work, including e.g. European

Innovative Games Award 2009 (with gameMiner), BETT Awards 2014 (with SkillPixels) and the

Eisenhower Fellowship 2017.

Keynote Speech Title: Future of Work: Personalised Career Coaching and Skills based Microlearning

for Everyone

Abstract: In next two years everyone, globally, can have an access to personalised career coaching and

skills based micro-learning, on any topic they want. Because of artificial intelligence. Currently there are

more than 1B people looking for work-related education, and the number is growing fast. Because the

fourth industrial revolution, robots & AI, depending on source, we are going to loose some 1b-5b jobs

globally in next 30 years.

Our current education system can’t solve this challenge. There are not enough teachers, nor resources

to build materials. We can’t wait formal education solve this challenge, there is not just enough time.

The next generation of jobs are not about permanent full-time profession. There will be less and less

permanent profession based jobs. Rather there is micro-jobs, tasks, gigs, whatever we now call

freelancer work. It's cherry picking for someone, nightmare for someone.

And it's already here. The fourth industrial revolution. We just don't want to see it, because people in

general are afraid of big fundamental changes. In terms of Orwell, in 1984, Ignorance is strength.

But this is not about learning, it’s more related to identity. During first industrial revolution, our

identity slowly turned into work-based identity that it hasn’t been before. Identity has been related to

land and community, also before and after agricultural revolution some 10 000 years ago. Changing

identity needs time, at least couple of generations.

This fourth industrial revolution is here and it is quick, we have no time to change our identity. Maybe

children under 15 can start grow with pieces of new identity. The new, post- industrial identity could be

related to personal skills, growth mindset and individual motivations to do something meaningful.

If we don’t do anything and just wait, there will soon be billions of unemployed people globally

without trust for the future, and that’s a real threat for our future, not AI. I understand that solving the

challenges related to fourth industrial revolution are too complex to solve in one piece, so we focus on

recognising personal skills, supporting growth mindset and enabling individual motivations to do

something meaningful.

We have already built an AI that learns micro-level semantics and meanings from natural language on

any given topic.

1) AI can learn organisations’ needs and individual skills & competences based on task descriptions

resumes, activities in social media, etc. AI make them visible as a personal skills map and it can suggest

new skills and competences to learn based on person’s own interests and existing skills.

2) AI produces micro learning on any required topic, on demand. Course production on any given topic

is a critical part in order to provide skills & competences based education for everyone.

3) AI runs the course as a individual’s personal coach

4) and it assess the skills

5) Finally, AI keeps the personal and organisational skills maps always up to date, so people can

immediately see where there is jobs, gigs, tasks available for her/him.

In other words, we use AI to bring 1-to-1 career coaching and highly personalised on-demand

micro-learning for everyone in two years. In longer period, we want to start activities to empower people

to find and discover some 1b-5b new kind of jobs in next 30 years.

We are now starting the piloting in Finland this summer, and the “career coaching and skills based

micro-learning” platform will be globally published in early 2018.

Next steps after that are:

To secure growth funding and design sustainable business model to turn the project into continuous,

self funded, activity.

To find partners to scale the idea globally. In this the Eisenhower Fellowships network is going to be

one of the key elements for successful implementation. Without this active, global, professional network

global implementation would take just too long.

So should we be afraid of future? No! We just have to understand to get prepared. AI and robots are

just tools, maybe the most powerful tools ever designed, but still tools. How we use tools depends on us.

Keynote Speaker III

Prof. Ewa Ziemba

University of Economics in Katowice, Poland

Dr. Ewa Ziemba completed her Ph.D. and Post Ph.D. in management, with a major focus on

management information systems (University of Economics in Katowice). Her current research is in

information systems and technologies for business and public administration transformation. She has

published over 170 peer-reviewed papers and 18 books. She played an instrumental role in prestigious

international research projects. In recognition of her outstanding research and teaching, Ewa Ziemba has

been the recipient of numerous awards. She has received 16 awards of excellence from the Rector of the

University of Economics in Katowice. She has been awarded The Silver Cross of Merit and The Gold

Medal „For Long Service” from the President of Poland, The Medal of the National Education

Commission from the Ministry of National Education in Poland, and The Award of Fellow &

Distinguished Scholar and Excellence in Research & Scholarship Award and The Excellence in

Research & Scholarship Award from the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management.

She has received five awards for the best papers at the international conferences. She has been awarded

grants founded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the National Science Center

of Poland. Ewa Ziemba serves on the editorial and editorial review board for several international

journals. She is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management and

the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Economic and Management. Ewa Ziemba is the Vice President for

Research Collaborations of the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management.

Keynote Speech Title: Information Society: ICT as a Key Catalyst for the Sustainability

Abstract: This lecture represents an important voice in the scientific discourse on what constitutes a

sustainable information society, and provides a new comprehensive and forward-looking approach to

such a development. This approach is based on information and communication technologies (ICT) as a

key enabler for boosting the development of the sustainable information society. It focuses on the usage

of ICTs by the main stakeholders of society, including households, enterprises, and public

administration, in order to build an ecological, economic, socio-cultural, and political sustainability.

Corporate Philanthrophy – A Conceptual Approach to Corporate Citizenship

Abstract: “Do good and be sure to make it known”.

Despite the fact that the topic of corporate citizenship is making its way forward on the

agenda of most companies and organizations today, the communication of their

socially responsible activities faces several challenges. First and foremost the

companies who attempt to communicate their corporate citizenship have to solve the

communication paradox of corporate citizenship: The more a company promotes its

corporate citizenship overtly and publicly, the less it will be believed by its relevant

stakeholders due to a general lack of trust in the business environment today.

As a consequence corporate citizenship communication needs to be transparent, legal,

truthful and easily understood in order to close the perceived (or real) gap between

corporate rhetoric and corporate practice, the so called “corporate hypocrisy”.

Corporate citizenship communication aims to promote a sense of identity and to

present a consistent and coherent image.

Therefore a conceptual approach to corporate citizenship communication has to be

deducted in order to scale back the communication paradox of corporate citizenship.

Factors Affecting the Wages of Native Workers in Thailand's Construction

Industry

Abstract: This research studies the factors influencing the wages of native workers in

Thailand's construction industry. The sample used comprised some 156 native

construction workers from Songkhla Province, Thailand. The utilized research

instrument was a questionnaire, with the data being analyzed according to frequency,

percentage, and regression analysis. The results revealed that in general, native Thai

construction workers are generally married males aged between 26 and 37 years old.

They typically have four to six years of education, are employed as laborers with an

average salary of 4,000–9,200 baht per month, and have fewer than five years of work

experience. Most Thai workers work five days a week. Each establishment typically

has 10–30 employees, with fewer than 10 of these being migrant workers in general.

Most Thai workers are at a 20–40% risk from work, and they have never changed

employer. The average wage of Thai workers was found to be 10,843.03 baht per

month with a standard deviation of 4,898.31 baht per month. Hypothesis testing

revealed that position, work experience, and the number of times they had switched

employer were the factors most affecting the wages of native Thai construction

workers. These three factors alone explain the salaries of Thai construction workers at

51.9 percent.

through which innovation creates growth. Perhaps most frustrating has been the failure

to find an empirical measure of innovative activity that offers deep insight into the

underlying factors and mechanisms.

There are likely as many definitions of “innovation” as there are experts. The term can

be applied to new or improved products (as at Microsoft and Nintendo), processes (as

at Toyota, Walmart, Procter & Gamble), experience (as at Disney, Google, Target), or

business models (as at Hewlett Packard, Reliance, or Goldman Sachs).

The recent study focuses on fundamental gap to measure the empirical findings of

innovation impact on deep understanding of brand in terms of brand resonance.

Though primarily the study doesn’t make an effort to define brand resonance but while

developing the questionnaire for a sample size of 97 respondents, it has primarily

structured the items based on the Customer-Based Brand Equity Pyramid developed by

Keller under two major components i.e. emotional and rational route to brand

relationship building. The methodology applied for the research was primarily based

on scale development of the independent and dependent variables. The probability

factor in dependent value was more appropriate for logistic regression to test the

hypotheses.

Why Do Firms Issue SEOs and Increase Dividends Simultaneously?

Abstract: A number of studies have shown that the dividend signaling is as costly as

the external financing. The pecking order theory implies that the last choice of

financing is raising equity. Loderer and Mauer (1992) argue that firms should not

simultaneously pay dividends and conduct seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) with the

goal of maximizing firm value. However, Wang, Chen and Cheng (2010) demonstrate

the evidence that many firms increase the dividends aroundSEOs. John and Williams

(1985) indicate that the firms issuing stocks while paying dividendscan support a

higher stock pricesince dividends can transmit a positive signal. Given the fact that

dividend increases and SEO issuances are both expensive, the aim of this study is to

investigate the reasons why firms decide to increase cash dividends and issue SEOs

simultaneously from the perspectives of information asymmetry, agency problem, and

operating cash flow (OCF).

Using a sample of U.S. firmsfrom 2000 to 2010, we find that the firms with lower

degree of information asymmetry or agency problem are more likely to choose

simultaneous dividend increases and SEOs. The results support the findings of Loderer

and Mauer (1992) that there is weak evidencethatstockofferingdecisions could

benefitfromtheinformation disclosure in dividend announcements. Consistent with

OCF hypothesis, the firms with lowerOCFs are more likely to choose simultaneous

dividend increases and SEOs. Our findings shed some light on the possible

explanationswhy the firms conduct dividend increases and SEO issuances at the same

time.

aims at re-defining economy by using the term “provisioning economy”. Gift economy

is often neglected in these diverse appropriative practices. A gift economy is a mode of

exchange where valuables are not traded or sold, but rather given without an explicit

agreement for immediate or future rewards (Cheal, 1988). A gift economy contrasts

with a market economy, where goods and services are primarily exchanged for value

received.

The gift economy is particularly suited to the distribution of digital goods (Elder-Vass,

2016:230). However, how to solve the tensions between a gift economy and a market

economy? Elder-Vass (2016:231) argued that the “the issue we face is not a choice

between a gift economy and a commodity economy”, the issues are “how much of the

economy will take a gift form, what kinds of gift form” and vice versa. Therefore, this

study attempts to examine “how much of the economy will take a gift form and what

kinds of gift form” and furthermore to reconcile the tension between a gift economy

and a market economy.

The method employed in this study was “illustrative case studies”. 5 cases of digital

economy with gift economy practices from China were selected to illustrate the usage

of “diverse appropriative practices”. The goals of this study were to propose the

possible new business models in the digital economy. Hopefully, this study can

contribute to the new media and digital economy entrepreneurship.

A Study of Perceived Value in the Ride-Hailing Transportation Sector in Jakarta

Abstract: The article examines the effectiveness of promotion on repurchase intention

by perceived value and transportation mode preferences. The method of analysis of this

research is structural equation modeling (SEM) based on cluster sampling in Jakarta.

The findings of this research are: price promotion and other 7Ps marketing mix

elements have significant direct effect on perceived value. The strong factors among

those are price-promotion and process factors. Perceived value has a significant direct

effect on transportation mode preferences and subsequently on repurchase intention.

However, price promotion and other 7Ps in the marketing mix elements do not have a

significant direct effect on transportation mode preferences on the use of Indonesian

public motorcycles called Ojek and the booking process via ride-hailing apps.

Abstract: The purposes of this study are to identify types of social media platforms

most frequently used in teaching and learning by the faculty members, and to find out

functions achieved in social media-based activities in teaching and learning. Samples

include 80 faculty members, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Suan

Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), Bangkok, Thailand. A questionnaire is used to

collect data which is analyzed by SPSS program, and statistics employed include

percentage, Mean, and Standard Deviation. The study discloses the most frequently

used social media platforms in teaching and learning in highest level with average

spending time of more than 5 times a week include Websites and YouTube, and

Moodle. Moreover, 2 functions achieved by social media-based activities in highest

level with average time consumption of more than 5 times a week include retrieving

contents for classroom instruction from websites and YouTube followed by uploading

content for classroom instruction on Moodle. It can be concluded that the faculty

members perceive the technology usefulness and the ease of use of social media and

make use of it in teaching and learning in the form of social media-based activities.

Moreover, they also can affect consumers' perception of the risks associated with

online buying. The purpose of this study is to develop a theoretical model which would

explain the factors influencing the intentions of online buyers to purchase in situation

when they use price comparison sites. The price consciousness, perception of quality

of delivery, reputation and risk perception were seen as factors influencing the

purchase intention of online buyers. The results show that information provided by

online price comparison site positively influences the perception of online shoppers,

and play a positive role in reducing risk and increasing purchase intention of

consumers.

The Influence of Electronic Billing to Tax Compliance in East Africa Region

Abstract: Electronic Billing helps to increase the compliance of VAT, thus remain

focused on revenue mobilization and efficient service delivery to taxpayers (Lawrence

& John, 1999). Within the business community not everyone has yet understood the

advantages of the system. The general objective of the study was to investigate the

contribution of Electronic billing to tax compliance in Rwanda. Specific objectives

were to identify the key obstacles to usage of Electronic Billing in RRA; to analyze the

benefits of Electronic Billing to tax compliance in RRA; and to establish the

relationship between Electronic Billing usage and tax compliance in RRA. This

research should be beneficial to different users, such as researcher, Rwanda Revenue

Authority, taxpayers, and other researchers. The study adopted both descriptive and

analytical designs, and was both qualitative and quantitative. The target population of

this study was 4383 comprising of 947 employees of Rwanda Revenue Authority and

3436 taxpayers in Nyarugenge District. The sample size of the study was 99 people

including 22 RRA employees and 77 Nyarugenge District taxpayers, the researcher

used stratified and systematic random sampling method. Questionnaire with close

ended questions were used to collect data during the study for taxpayers. Documentary

review was also used. The data were presented using graphs and tables. The data

were also analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the relationship

between the variables using SPSS. The study found that there is a strong and positive

relationship between Usage of EB and Performance of Tax compliance. The study

found that usage of EB is correlated to Performance of Tax compliance with

correlation coefficient of 97.0%. The study also concluded that EB help accountancy to

do good financial report Electronic Billing represent a potentially important tax

administration initiative, aimed at improving VAT compliance by transmitting

transaction records directly to the Rwanda Revenue Authority in real time and play

important role for ability to raise more income than before usage of EB leads to

EB, to VAT, compliance and tax audits.

The Influence of Corporate Disclosure on Credit Process Innovation in Savings

and Credit Cooperative Organizations

Abstract: although corporate disclosure is a useful tool in credit process, risk exposure

and management are increasingly becoming the core challenges of modern business

enterprises in various sectors. The general objective of this research was to assess

whether corporate disclosures are contributing to access to credit innovation process.

The analytical research design was used, the population number of Ubaka Savings and

Credit Co-operative Organization (SACCO) selected randomly for study totals to 142

include 25 from employees and 117 from depositors and borrowers who worked with

Ubaka SACCO at least two years. In using the Yamane’ formula, the sample size was

equal to 104. The sampling technique that was used in this study is purposive sampling

method, questionnaires were used as data collection instruments. Both inferential and

descriptive statistics were used in this study. The statistical tool of analysis that the

researcher used was the Statistical Packaging for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study

found that one of important assumptions in decision making process and improvement

of credit access is existence of quality information. According to the problems

encountered in preparing financial statements in Ubaka SACCO, the study found that

companies frequently have other demanding roles and responsibilities and believe that

they cannot do their submission of the report when they have a few spare moments.

And, they often fail to find the time and continually postpone the delivery of their input

– not always being aware of looming deadlines. Concerning the relationship between

corporate disclosures and SACCOs access to credit, the researcher found that there is a

positive relationship between corporate disclosures and access to credit of SACCOs.

This study recommends that National Banks to speed up the sensitization campaign of

the SACCOs to focus on corporate disclosure as among the tools to the access to

credit.

Abstract: This research investigated the effect of innovation process on the

performance of banking sector in East Africa on the case of KCBR. This study has the

specific objectives, such as to analyze the drivers that influence financial innovation in

KCB Bank Rwanda Ltd; to assess the challenges of innovation faced by KCB Bank

Rwanda Ltd performance; to assess the effects of innovation on financial performance

of KCB Bank Rwanda Ltd. The literature review in this research shows the theoretical

reviews and other past studies done by other scholars who have written on it and it also

shows the gaps which the study bridged and suggest ways of overcoming those gaps.

This study shows conceptual framework which links the independent variable

(innovation) to the dependent variable (banking sector performance).The research will

contribute to the knowledge of innovation and its effect on banking sector

performance. The research was designed under case study and used both descriptive

and correlational statistics. The targeted population of the study was 324 employees of

KCBR using simple random sampling approach, and then the sample size was 76

respondents determined using slovin’s formula and selected using stratified sampling

technique. The researcher collected data using questionnaires. The collected data was

presented using tables while statistical methods were used to ascertain the percentages

and frequencies upon which analysis and interpretation was based. This research found

that innovation is a key of mobilization in the large companies like KCBR. This

research concluded that, there is a positive and very high correlation (relationship)

between innovation and banking sector performance. The innovation KCBR influences

its performance on the rate of 87.9%. This research also recommended KCBR that in

order to attain sustainable performance, should focuses on corporate social

responsibility, corporate image, Pressure of the form of legal regulation, Pressure

resulting from globalization, Firm size, Legal protection of shareholders and Board

leadership structure as the main factors that should affect its innovation structure.

Virtual-agile IT projects are most relevant in the context of software and web

development, new product development and information system projects.

Organizations where fulfilling the demands of clients, face several complexities during

projects; mainly obstructed by differences in location, time, culture and working

dynamics etc. This developmental paper aims to explore some useful practices

undertaken in IT industry to deal with such criticalities. The research uses qualitative

methods and grounded theory methodology to generate emerging themes recognized as

codes or concepts; which were further transformed into categories based on their

properties and dimensions. Categories or sub-categories identified were arranged using

coding paradigm which helped to identify a core-category. Consequently, the

relationships were refined, arranged in a unique way in selective coding and a storyline

is discussed elaborating the relationships between various categories, sub-categories

and concepts. Finally, a conclusion is made and recommendations are suggested for

future research.

Abstract: Social Media have become a major component of today’s society.

Value-based blogs make billions of dollars a year from web-based commercial markets

which have become increasingly attractive entities for investors. This research will

focus on how to evaluate a blog’s value and how to make the invested money valuable.

The purpose of the study aims to identify the time-sensitive curve of the amounts of

visitors, so that business users who are interested in commercial marketing of social

media could optimize their returns of investments by investigating the relationship

between time of a post and its influences. In this research, the influences are measured

by three parameters, including Likes count, Reprint count and Comments count. The

results indicated that in addition to the content of a post, the following activities catch

followers’ attention: (1) encouraging them to reprint and make comment, (2)

mentioning influential people in posts by using “fans economy”, and (3) creating

product-related topics.
