A NOTE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
Dear Members,
As we enter our 30 busiest
days of the year I would like to
bring a few things to your
attention.
Due to increased demand for
our most popular dining event,
Prime Rib/Birthday Blast night, the
Club has added two additional
opportunities for you to enjoy
prime rib and your March birthday
on Friday, March 10th and Friday,
March 24th.
With the full complement of our Membership here in the
month of March, prime time reservations and main dining
room availability fills up quickly, so please take advantage of
making your dining reservation up to 30 days in advance to
ensure your perfect time and table.
This time of year we tend to receive comments on parking
availability. As a courtesy to all Members and residents please
use the designated golf cart parking spaces during this busiest
time of year to maximize car parking.
The facility was designed and created with over 30 golf
cart parking spaces between the tennis courts and pool/fitness
complex. The old bag drop location has been converted into
golf cart parking and will accommodate over 8 golf carts.
Additional golf cart parking is also available behind the Main
Club House.
The Learning Center short game facility was designed with
16 golf cart parking spaces in the cul-de-sac to the left of the
short game area as you reach the top of the hill. This season
several cart parking spaces and signage have been added to
Learning Center Green 3 (chipping/pitching green). I hope
every Member who golfs with us is enjoying the improved
conditions of the golf course.
I want to personally thank Executive Chef Roger Krajcik
for his efforts in taking the consistency and quality of the dining
experience to the next level. As mentioned in last month’s
newsletter, Roger is expecting a child in June so please stop in
and wish him well in this next step in his personal life, and
share some encouragement with Roger on an exceptional
transition in his professional career.
Please take a moment to read a review from a participant
of our last Men’s and Ladies Member event:
“I would like to commend the people who planned, executed
and served the luncheon that followed the Ryder Cup
Tournament. The meal was outstanding, the service excellent,
and it was reminiscent of the days of old. Please thank all
involved for me.” Rit Manthous.
Mr. Manthous is a great communicator who always openly
and respectfully communicates to the Club when we need to do
better in certain areas but also recognizes the staff positively.
It is the constructive criticism that helps us improve, but also
the affirmation that keeps the staff motivated and focused on the
positive direction we are moving.
The Golf Staff is in full speed at the moment with over
300 golfers playing at Heron Creek per day for the next few
weeks. The Golf Committee and Director of Golf are working
hard together to improve the Member experience. Pace of play,
and how we can improve pace of play is the focus at the mo-
ment. Additional resources are being used and additional staff
training is in progress to improve the experience in this area.
Thank you to all members and guests for your conscious effort
and awareness of the importance of keeping up with the group
in front of you. The positive impact that you made has helped
improve the experience of the 250+ other Members per day
playing behind you this time of year.
I would like to announce a project that will begin this
afternoon after play, Monday, February 27th. Everyone by now
should be enjoying the new TifEagle putting greens which came
out exceptionally well. However, there was one green that we
were not satisfied with and that is the large lower practice
putting green. The original contractor has been called back in
and will be re-building the lower practice green starting this
afternoon. Ideally, we were planning to begin this project in early
summer after season. Due to the high number of clubs
renovating in SWFL this year, we were fortunate to get on the
contractor's schedule and complete the work at this time. Heron
Creek has the luxury that very few other Clubs have, of four
USGA spec practice putting greens. Therefore, the membership
will still have the ability to practice their putting on the two
upper greens or the one lower practice green.
Pardon our dust over the next few months as we con-
tinue to improve. It is very important for the success of the pro-
ject that we have no pedestrian traffic anywhere around the
practice putting green complex until it reopens late summer/
early fall. This will ensure a successful grow-in and minimize
the risk of any cross contamination of turf during the grow in.
Please remain outside the fenced area.
Thank you again for your continued support of my
staff, myself and Heron Creek Golf and Country Club. Enjoy
the remainder of your season.
Sincerely,
Chris Trottier, PGA
COO/General Manager

GOLF NEWS
HERON CREEK MGA
Congratulations
on your
HOLE IN ONE!
The Heron Creek Men’s Golf Association conducted its Ryder Cup Tournament on February 22 – 23. Teams and
matches are determined by the Ryder Cup captains at the pairings social, this year held on February 19th. The event
features head to head match play over the two days of competition. This tournament is always a lot of fun and brings out
the team spirit in all of us. Results for this year’s event will be published in next month’s newsletter.
The next major tournament for the HCMGA is the Member/Member Shamble on March 14 – 15. Members pick their
partners and using a reduction in handicap play a shamble format over two days. Lunch and awards follow play on the
second day. Sign-up for this event is now open.
On non- tournament weeks there is a one-day event held on each Wednesday. Sign-ups and information are available
through the Golf Genius app. Platinum members interested in joining the MGA can stop by the Pro Shop and pick up

Dear Membership,
The following information is a reminder
of your responsibilities as a member of
the USGA and a member of a country
club that facilitates events under the
guidelines of the USGA.
The purpose of the USGA Handicap
System is to make the game of golf
more enjoyable by enabling players of
differing abilities to compete on an
equitable basis. The system provides a
fair Course Handicap for each player,
regardless of ability, and adjusts a
player's Handicap Index up or down as
the player's game changes.
At the same time, the System disregards
high scores that bear little relation to the
player's potential ability and promotes
continuity by making a Handicap Index
continuous from one playing season or
year to the next. A Handicap Index is
useful for all forms of play, and is issued
only to individuals who are members of
a licensed golf club.
Two basic premises underlie the USGA
Handicap System, namely that each
player will try to make the best score at
every hole in every round, regardless of
where the round is played, and that the
player will post every acceptable round
for peer review. The player and the
player's Handicap Committee have joint
responsibility for adhering to these
premises.
Based on some feedback regarding
handicap accuracy from the membership
the Handicap Committee feels it is its
duty to track rounds played versus
rounds posted. We have purchased
software from the GHIN called
GolfHITS. The way GolfHITS works is
by tracking the member numbers on the
tee sheet versus the posting number in
GHIN. GolfHITS will be auditing the
tee sheets versus rounds posted 11/1/16
through 1/31/17. Once we have
complied the data the Handicap
Committee will address any issues
individually.
*Please be aware each member is
responsible for their name and number
on the tee sheet to ensure correct
posting/tracking.
We are asking all players track their
scores posted and post the correct
scores.
Thank you for your patience on this
matter,
Handicap Committee:

“Playing By The Rules”
Courtesy of Heron Creek LGA
On occasion, a player's ball will end
up a few feet off the green, either on
the fairway or on the fringe around
the green. There is a bunker close to
the green and sand has been thrown
from the bunker due to prior
play. The sand is on the fairway, the
fringe of the green and the green
itself. The player whose ball lies off
of the green would like to putt the ball
but thinks the sand may interfere with
the ball's roll. Can she brush away the
sand that is between where the ball
lies off the green and her intended
line of play to the hole? The answer
is that she can only remove the sand
that is on the green and she cannot
remove the sand on the fairway or the
fringe of the green. Under the
definition portion of The USGA
Rules of Golf, sand and loose soil
are defined as "loose impedi-
ments" on the putting green only, but
not elsewhere. In stroke play removal
of sand or loose soil on your line of
play anywhere off the green is a two
stroke penalty. HERON CREEK NIFTY NINERS
HERON CREEK LGA
We had such a great time and turnout for our 3 Queens & A King golf outing this year.
Congratulations to King Dale Kirkland and his Queens Cathy Radke, Donna Brown and
Pat Luchi for finishing first. It was a tightly contested event this year. Thank you King Richard
Clendaniel, King Jon Springer, King David Hourigan, King Al Godfrey, King Joe Strosnik,
King Mike Benza, King Mike Conway, King Bob Lewis and King Larry Truchot for your gallant
participation.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Carol Roberts our
newest member to the Nifty Niners.
Please mark your calendars for the upcoming events in March &
April. Our shotgun events and tournaments this year will require
an 8 day sign up deadline.

Closing Day Breakfast April 11th
Patty Wegener, HCNN Secretary
January 20th brought the Low Gross/Low
Net event, which is always challenging as
you have to play the ball out no matter the
score. No taking X scores J. Many members
played 17 good holes, but it only takes one
bad hole to ruin an overall score. The nice
part is that it’s one event that we all get to
play with other ladies with similar handi-
caps, with whom we usually do not play,
thus meeting more members.
Flighted Scramble gave ladies another
opportunity to play with ladies of a similar
handicap.
President’s Cup was our last event for a
while to play with other similarly
handicapped members. Sherry Cline was our
winner. Nicely played! Your name on a
displayed plaque is always rewarding and a
reminder of one’s good golf days!
February’s ‘Be My Valentine’ event being
match play, gave members another different
opportunity for play. Many members
mentioned the games this year have been
really fun and filled with a great variety of
play. Thanks again to our hard working and
creative games chair, Daney Gallagher.
Our last event prior to this writing was, Two
Net Best Balls. Awesome scores from the
teams; a 29 and a 34 under par won each
flight. However, my team played a different
game from the rest of the field. It was called
‘Hit the ball and Drag Sandra’. I was awful!
But, as we all know, there are days like that
and we are mostly happy to just have the
ability to get out to play, enjoy other
members company, and eschew the flora and
fauna.
Lots of talk and excitement about our Ryder
Cup event, named Red & White Delight -
Friendship Bowl. Good for all of us to have
exposure and experience with match play
and its differing rules from stroke play.
Last, but not least, as a member of the Heron
Creek Advisory Board, ALL lady golfers
were complimented by both Tom Rainey
and Bart Cook as to how diligent we are at
fixing ball marks, and divots and at least one
other. Maybe it’s just our inherent cleaning
skills kicking in!!

RED HERONS
CHEF’S CORNER
The monthly meeting of the Red Herons was held on February 6th and club
business reports were presented.
Many events kept the club busy in February. A group of members saw the
Shen Yun Dancers perform. Thanks to Sandy and Judy for organizing that
very special event. There was also an Historical Trolley Tour in Sarasota,
thanks to Joyce. Our annual Strawberry Tea held at The Gasparilla Inn in Boca
Grande was a great success and always a special day for all club members.
Thanks to Pat, Karen and Joyce for doing such a wonderful job with that event.
Lots of fun things to look forward to next month as well, including installation
of new officers at our monthly meeting which will be held on Monday, March
6th at 10:30 in the main dining room.

Dear Members,
We received raving reviews for our Chocolate Lava Cakes we made on Valentine’s Day. Use this recipe at home to
enjoy this treat all year long!
CHOCOLATE MOLTEN LAVA CAKES
INGREDIENTS
½ cup butter
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate
1 cup powdered sugar
2 whole eggs
2 egg yolks
6 tablespoons flour
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
Butter your ramekins or a large muffin tin Melt the butter and chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second
increments until smooth. Let the chocolate cool for a couple of minutes, then add in the powdered
sugar, whole eggs and yolks and mix.
Sift in the flour and mix until just combined.
Add the batter evenly to the muffin tins. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until the sides are set and the middle is still
slightly jiggly. Let them rest for a minute then add a cookie sheet on top of the muffin
tin then flip over. Using a spatula slide it under the cake carefully and transfer to your
plate.
Dust with more powdered sugar if you would like.
Garnish with chopped chocolate and berries.

PICKLE BALL
Join us on Tuesdays 5pm at Highland Ridge Park for recreational play. We have a couple of
extra paddles so you can try the game. It's easy to learn, and there's always someone will-
ing to help the beginners. Just wear your sneakers and come on out.
There are other times that Pickle ball is available in North Port. The Mullen Center (near
City Hall) has indoor courts that have a special rubberized surface that helps the impact on
the knees and ankles. Heron Creek resident John Zick is encouraging others to join him on
Wednesday mornings at 9:30 ([email protected]). North Port Parks and Recreation is
sponsoring a Pickle ball Mixed Double Social on Saturday March 18, 9-2pm. All levels of
players are encouraged to play ($15 per player).
Heron Creek Pickleball players are invited to a happy hour gathering on March 16, 4 pm at
the Heron Creek grille room, patio area outside main dining room
Many of you have seen those
colorful foam balls that
instructors like myself will use
with kids and beginners. They
are designed to help novices
improve at rallying, but I feel
that they can also help more
experienced players of any age
to, “Increase their racquet head
speed”.
The idea is simple: Because
the foam balls are lighter, soft-
er and larger than regu-
lar tennis balls, they travel
more slowly, and cover less
distance. This allows you to
swing faster without the fear of
hitting the ball long. It’s been
my experience that when you
go back to regular balls fol-
lowing a session of using
foam balls, you should feel
your groundstrokes will not
only be going deeper, but with
more pace!
Try it, and let me know what
you think.
I hope that was helpful, and as
usual, see you on the courts!

A NOTE FROM THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE
The Heron Creek Singles Group participates in all of the scheduled Club
activities, including a special monthly celebration of members’ birthdays,
usually on the Club’s second scheduled Birthday Blast each month.
In addition to the Club activities and events, we organize house parties
for major holidays and pursue a wide variety of outside activities such as
plays, concerts, various day trips by land and sea, nearby attractions, and
we try at least one new local restaurant each month.
If you’re single, want to meet new friends and participate in some great
activities, contact the Heron Creek Singles Group! Our roster now
numbers 33… and we’d love to add your name to it!
For more information, call Janice Dirmeitis at 240-6425. If you'd like to
join us on the (usually) second scheduled Club Birthday Blast of each
month, whether or not it’s YOUR birthday month, let Janice know…
then call in your reservation and tell them you want to be seated with the
HC Singles Group.
The Social Committee in conjunction with the Heron Creek Golf & Country Club Management and staff are pleased to announce
two of the major comments generated from the 2016 Membership Survey are now closed. The smoking policy is now in place
as “No Smoking” signs are now visible on the first three tables outside the Grill Room. The acoustic seals have arrived and will
be installed next week in the Main Dining Room.
The 60's & 70's Dinner, Dancing and Car Show was A GREAT SUCCESS!!! A very special salute and thank you is extended to the social committee, Gus Arredondo, and the club staff for the fine job that they did in hosting this very successful event on Friday, January 27th. A warm thank you also goes out to the car owners and their families for displaying their cars. There were 18 vintage and antique cars showcased by their very proud owners. The car show, food, dancing and the conversations throughout the evening was enjoyed by all of the 120+ guests who attended the affair. As the guests roamed throughout the car show, they were asked to vote for their favorite car. The ballots were tallied and the three very lucky winners were announced after dinner. Certifi-cates for the New Years Celebration, The Sunday Signature Brunch and the Italian Pasta Bar were given to first, second and third places in that order. First place also received a trophy. The winners were as follows: First Place went to Bob Finitzer showing his beautiful 1938 Lincoln, Zephyr. Second Place was awarded to Ed Heiser and his sporty 1961 Chevrolet Corvette. Third Place award was given to Wayne Stemmer who proudly showcased his 1968 Ford Mustang.
