WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS

FOR WORKPLACE FIRST AID IN ONTARIO

All workplaces require First Aid certified employees to provide immediate care in the event of injury or medical emergency in the workplace.

The First Aid certification and equipment requirements for each workplace varies depending on: regulatory jurisdiction, location, industry and the number of employees at the worksite. Our workplace first aid specialists will work with you to plan and implement a First Aid program which meets all your Health and Safety requirements.

APPLICABLE LEGISLATION

In Ontario all employers, supervisors and workers must receive general awareness training related to workplace hazards and the prevention of injury and illness in the workplace.

The Workplace Safety Insurance Act. 1997 governs the administration of workplace insurance through WSIB. Under the WSIA, there is a specific regulation detailing the workplace First Aid requirements, this regulation is known as WSIB First

Aid Regulation 1101.

The Canada Labour Code is the Occupational Health and Safety legislation applicable to Federally regulated industries. The requirements for First Aid training and equipment can be found in section XVI - of the Canada Labour Code.

In addition to these jurisdictional regulations, you may have other First Aid requirements related to your industry or hazards which should be reviewed when implementing your First Aid program.

FIRST AID TRAINING OPTIONS

St. John Ambulance is Canada’s leading authority in First Aid. We offer the most comprehensive First Aid training programs for business and individuals.

Public Courses - We offer regularly scheduled courses at more than 80 training locations across Ontario for your conven-ience with scheduling employee training. At most locations we offer both our traditional in-class programs as well as our new blended format of training.

Private Courses - All of our courses are available in the Private format. Provided at your location or one of our training centers. This option works well for larger groups, or even for smaller groups looking for training related to hazards and risks specific to your workplace.

FIRST AID TRAINING IN-HOUSE OPTION

In-house instructor - Having an in-house certified First Aid instructor to deliver our programs at your location, provides the most flexibility. First Aid training can be easily integrated in your employee orientation program and ongoing Health and Safety programs in a cost effective manner.
