It is both an Honor and a Pleasure to serve as The North Knoxville Business andProfessionals Association President. I am humbled to follow our Immediate PastPresident Art Cate and advance the values of NKBPA set by the strong leadership ofour many fine Past Presidents.
Since 2004 our core group of business and professionals banded together witha resounding voice in order to bring increased prosperity while enhancing andenergizing communications with all in North Knoxville. This vision has exceededbeyond the primary groups hopes and now the NKBPA has grown to 120 membersand 55+ average monthly networking/business meeting participants. Although weare without geographical boundaries the 37917 zip code sits at the center of ourassociation’s focus.
NKBPA supports the business and professional community by:
• Encouraging new business development and supporting existing businesses• Building relationships between businesses, neighborhoods and government • Collaborating with and financially supporting non-profit organizations serving
North Knoxville
• Awarding annual Fulton High School student scholarshipsBroadway Corridor Taskforce is looking at challenges and opportunities
between North Central and I-640.We work with City staff and representatives from the Belle Morris, Edgewood
Park, Fairmont-Emoriland, Fourth & Gill, Oakwood Lincoln Park and Old NorthKnoxville neighborhood organizations.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Friday of each month at rotating locations. Themeetings start at 7:45 a.m. and a sponsored breakfast is provided. Our Beginning....In June 2003, six (6) individuals met at the Shoney’s Restaurant onBroadway, to discuss the need in the North Knoxville area, of such anorganization for businesses and professionals. All six (6) agreed that it wastime for this to happen. Consequently, a letter was composed to invite localbusinesses and professional people to a meeting that was held two (2)weeks later at the Fulton High School Library. The turn out and interestwas good enough to give this idea a real try. Another letter and anothermeeting the following month, at the FHS Library, was even larger.
The goal of this organization is to help our area be recognized more, havebusinesses more informed of the activities and events going on in thecommunity, to pool our resources together and help out in this area, andbe able to organize when there is a need to fight for the rights of ourcommunity.
We are currently in our fourteenth year as a Business & ProfessionalAssociation. We have held meetings in over thirty different locationswithin the North Knoxville area.
We meet on the second Friday of every month at 7:45 a.m. at differentlocations. Breakfast has been served at several of the meetings fromvarious vendors and/or groups. We publish updates and meeting noticesto inform everyone of the where’s and when’s. We have not, as of yet,established a permanent meeting place because of all of the interestingplaces that current members have volunteered their facility to show-offtheir place of business.
