Movie with Pastor
Join us for not only Christian fellowship, but also a time to reflect on where God is in your life today. There will be two showings. Potluck style lunch will be at 12:00 p.m. with the movie to follow at 1:00 p.m. And a dinner at 6:00 p.m. and the movie at 7:00 p.m. The movie for May 31st will be the Christian classic The Cross and
the Switchblade: David Wilkerson, who braved
the meanest streets of New York to tell desperate and drug crazed youth that there was a better way? Now, three decades later, he is still at it with a ministry based in Times Square that is still changing lives and offering genuine hope to countless souls who had given up on life.
Beloved in the Lord, Grace, mercy and peace from our risen Lord be unto you. Amen! I hope and pray, that you and your family and friends will be worshiping with us on May 28th.I trust your experience here at Christ Lutheran Church will be one in which you will feel a re-newed appreciation for our Lord and Savior, Je-sus Christ. How wonderful it is to be able to worship the Lord in freedom and without fear of persecution as some endure in other countries. On this Memorial Day weekend, we believe it is of great value to appreciate those who have paid the ultimate price to secure these freedoms we enjoy today. I want to express our appreciation to families who have experienced the loss of a loved one as they fought for freedom. Jesus said it best in the scripture: John 15:13 (NIV) “13 Greater love has no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” We are also reminded of the fact that He laid His own life down for the spiritual freedom we enjoy as we accept Him in our lives. So, as we enter into this time of Worship, be sure to take time to express your thanks to the Lord for His sacrifice, as well as those who have died for our freedom to worship and live in this great nation. I also want to recognize the 13 couples who re-newed their vows on Sunday April 23rd. They looked stunning with a smile which showed all who attended that marriages can last with love and faith in God and with each other. The Congregational Life Committee did an out-standing job making the day a special event. The brides all received flowers. A gift and card was given to each couple from the Kloos family. The three tier wedding cake was not only beauti-ful but delicious as well. Each tier had a different filling and cake. Merriment was made with an accordion sing-a-long. The people who attended suggested to the committee that a renewal of vows be held every 5 years. At the writing of this letter, our hosting of the Great Lakes District of the LCMC has not taken
place. However, I have faith in my congregation that we will do a fine job. Also, I am planning a vacation from May 8th to the 13th. Pastor Steve from Christ Lutheran Church, LCMC in Birch Run will be covering for me. I have been asked to be the clergy member on Memorial Day, Monday the 29th to deliver the message at all three cemeteries for the annual American Legion ceremony. I pray that you all enjoy the blessings of spring and all that God’s goodness has created. Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Ed
A Time of Loss The Church Council was saddened by the resignation of Harold Avery, Minister of Social Outreach, due to health concerns. Harold’s dedication to the Lord and Christ Lutheran is a testament to his faith. We pray that the Lord will guide the doctors in restoring his health. On April 17th our church secretary, Jessica Brink, notified us that she has accepted a position with the State Michigan that will allow her to use her degree. Jessie came to the position when the office truly needed help. We wish her God’s speed in her new endeavor.

April 17, 2017
Present: Denise Felske, Deva Weber, Judy Stu-art, Dorothy VanOchten, Irene Weiss, Joyce Dirker, Ellen Schultz,Joyce Spiekerman The meeting was called to order by Irene. Denise read a devotion Treasurers report-$3925.49 Secretary's report from January was read by Deva. Old Business: Irene Weiss and Diane Osantowski will buy two tall slim Christmas trees. Two silverware baskets for the dishwasher were purchased, there is a lot of silverware in the kitchen it was decided to use that instead of plastic. Each funeral team will de-cide which they would like to use. The glass dish-es will be used for small dinners, we have a dish-washer and will use it instead of using paper products.
New Business: There was discussion on funerals dinners, since different caters supply different things it was decid-ed an information sheet be made with information on what is provided for the funeral dinner. Some catering companies supply everything and others do not, many families might not know ex-actly what is included in our dinners at Christ. Deva, Dorothy and Irene will make a information sheet to be given out to the families, this will give them the details of what we do and what they will need to do. A donation would be graciously accepted for our services which would be given to Christ Lutheran Church . Celebration of Mothers and Daughters on May 7, set up will be Saturday. Not many tickets have been sold as of today. Deva requested a donation from the CLCW to Ka-ren Fisher. Karen is catering the LCMC Conference on April 29, a Thrivent grant was received to pay for the food but not Karen's time. Motion by Dorothy, support by Ellen to make the donation. Worship and Music Minutes
April 11th, 2017
Present: Phyllis Felske, Deva Weber, Robbie Oldenburg, Pastor Ed, David Abraham,
Pastor Ed started the meeting with a prayer at 6:45pm
Lent/Easter: Maundy Thursday – 2 services, 11 am, 7 regular service will be washing of the feet and
stripping the altar. Good Friday – 2 services, 1:00 will be a movie, 7:00 will be a regular service
Pastor Ed: Talked about Palm Sunday. Talked about Wednesday Lenten services and how the offerings
have been down. We think it’s because of going to the other churches and people are not giving.
Outdoor worship – Pastor Ed would like to try an outdoor service in the Spring or Summer. We said let’s
try it and see how people like it.
Had discussion on how things are not being done in the office or they are being done incorrectly.
Phyllis: Would like to see people wait until the candles are extinguished on the altar before people in the
congregation start to leave. It is disrespectful to leave before the candles are extinguished. Robbie will
direct the acolytes to get the candle snuffer when the last song starts and extinguish the candles after
pastor has left the altar for the back of the church. Wants to purchase from Autom a new Brass Bible
stand and glass water cruets to use for communion. The current bible stand is very tarnished and can’t
be cleaned any longer and Pastor would like the cruets for communion – Robbie will take to church
council.
Robbie: Talked about the LCMC Convention to be held April 28th and 29th, 2017
Deva: Had discussion about the flowers for Confirmation this year.
Intinction – People don’t do properly and have trouble getting their wafer in the wine, would like to see
that we use the trays. She will do Darla’s setup for communion being she has left until the new schedule
is done.
Had discussion about doing a special service for the Shut-ins and their families for Easter and Christmas
in the future.
Update of sound system: Dave Abraham and Brandon Oczepek are still working on the sound room sys-
tem. Had discussion on how the live streaming is doing. Dave is checking into getting Pastor new micro-
phones at a cost of approximately $69.00. The ones we have now are getting old and are not always
clear.
Other: Deva and Robbie will meet Saturday about 9:30 to setup flowers and other things for Easter Sun-
day service.
New worship service during Sunday School – Kendyl wasn’t there to discuss, Pastor suggested that the
opening should start at 9:15 with the kids from Pre-K thru 3rd to start in the sanctuary and then leave at
9:30 for Sunday School and the parents would stay for worship.
Phyllis said Thank you to Deva for filling in for her while she was out of town.
Next meeting will be in, May 4th, 2017 at 6:30 pm
Adjourned 9:00
Submitted by Robbie Oldenburg, secretary

Invitation To Our Mother’s
Day Service Greetings in Christ!
We are looking forward to celebrating Mother’s Day on May 14th here at Christ Lutheran Church, and we would like to be sure to invite you and your family to join us! We realize there is a wide range of emotions on Mother’s Day, and while we do our best to be sensitive to this, we also believe it is of great importance that we take time to celebrate Mothers and the wonderful gift they are to families.
There’s a wonderful little story on the impact a Godly Mother makes on a child and how it can car-ry them through times of great challenge to their faith, especially as they leave home and begin to make their way in the world.
When Robert Ingersoll, the notorious skeptic, was in his heyday, two college students went to hear him lecture. As they walked down the street after the lecture, one said to the other, “Well, I guess he knocked the props out from under Christianity, did-n’t he?” The other said, “No, I don’t think he did. Ingersoll did not explain my mother’s life, and until he can explain my mother’s life I will stand by my mother’s God.”
Dr. G. Campbell Morgan had 4 sons and they were all preachers. Someone once came into the draw-ing room when all the family was there. They thought they would see what Howard, one of the sons, was made of so they asked him this question: “Howard, who is the greatest preacher in your fam-ily?” Howard had a great admiration for his father and he looked straight across at him and then with-out a moment’s hesitation he answered, “Mother.”
Whether we realize it or not, every one of us who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are “preachers” to a certain degree, and it is of vital importance to the next generation that our “sermons” are lived in such a way that people are drawn to want to know Christ for themselves. Paul the Apostle shared a tremendous word with the people he was ministering to as he said these words in 2 Cor. 3:2; “The only letter of recommen-dation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you.” Peo-ple “read” our lives quite often so let’s give them
some wonderful “reading material” in the way we live and serve on another, and especially Mothers who love their children, and children who love their parents!
Again, we would like to invite you to our service on Mother’s Day as we celebrate God’s wonderful gift of Motherhood!
In Christ,
Pastor Ed & The Worship & Music Committee
