character? If you're on Facebook and you're single and searching, the following 5 tips will serve as a guide; to lead you toward finding your soul mate on Facebook, the world's largest social media network. Who knows? You may find love or find love again on Facebook!

1. Don't be carried away by outward appearances.Appearances can be deceiving. But if you're searching for a man or woman with character, you need to go beyond merely looking at their pictures. Try to look for signs that show who they really are on the inside.

2. Read posts and comments of members of the opposite sex carefully and filter them according to the ones that display character and fit your values and principles. You don't want to date or marry a man or woman that lacks character. Therefore, it would be wise to spend time going through a good number of their posts and comments in order to have an idea of the kind of person they are.Avoid people who make irrelevant, meaningless, abusive, racist or hateful posts. Do not Friend or Follow members of the opposite sex who make hateful comments or threaten violence in their posts, or people who go against your

personal or cultural values, no matter how beautiful, handsome or attractive they may appear in their profile pictures. In so doing, you could actually be saving your own life, by not establishing contact with an abusive/ violent potential lover or killer!

3. Browse Photos, Friends, and Groups of people you seem attracted to on Facebook, and filter them according to the ones that display character and fit your values and principles.A man or woman who idolizes Nazi Germany and uploads pictures of Adolf Hitler on his/her Facebook wall shouldn't fit into the picture of your ideal husband or wife.Again, someone who maintains membership of groups like the Ku Klux Klan or whose Facebook Friends are mostly made up of Jihadists, religious radicals or ideological extremists may not be the right partner for you!

4. Friend and Follow intelligent members of the opposite sex based on their meaningful posts and comments which show that they have character and personality.

5. Join meaningful Facebook Groups that are driven by purpose, and participate actively in their activities and events. In so doing, you may be attracted to a member of the group who lives a purpose-driven life.

LIES WOMEN TELL IN

RELATIONSHIPSEven though it is said that a woman's face is

like an open book that reveals her state of

mind, men need to beware of some women.

These women lie and do it with an innocent

face that can fool even the devil.

As a man, don't bet your life on everything

your woman tells you irrespective of how

much you trust and adore her. The fact is that

many women lie to their significant others

sometimes.

Sometimes, they lie to carry off a situation

without hurting the feelings of the men they

love or to save themselves from trouble.

Others lie on some occasions to contain their

emotions and pose as good women so that they

won't be seen as jealous or possessive.

Telling white lies is no big deal for women

when it comes to playing it safe in their

relationships. White lies are no big blunders or

massive betrayals, but small lies or 'truth

manipulated' to handle a situation.

But the fact remains that all lies, from little

white untruths to serious deceit, can be

detrimental to any relationship. And while

both men and women are capable of being

untruthful to their significant other, they may

not always do it for the same reasons.

Here are some lies women tell their

unsuspecting partners in relationships:

How many men she has had sex with Unless

you got married right out of secondary school,

it's likely both you and your significant other

have had more than one sexual partner.

Although you know this to be true, it doesn't

mean you won't cringe at the mention of their

number. Which is why a woman might lie

when questioned about her sexual history.

Saying she's fine when she's not one lie

women tell is, “Nothing's wrong, I'm fine.”

Anyone who's heard these words before

probably doesn't consider it much of a

punishable crime, but it is a lie, nonetheless.

While it's more acceptable in platonic

relationships, such as with a co-worker, there's

no place for this little white lie in a romantic

one. A woman telling her partner she's fine

when something's weighing on her mind could

end up making her feel isolated or resentful, he

needs to press her to unburden her heart.

How much something cost money will always

be a topic of conversation, regardless of who

makes more of it. So, it's quite possible a

woman may be tempted to fudge the truth as to

how much that new outfit really cost.

Some women think telling their men how

much something truly cost will make these

men judge them for their spending habits,

while thinking they are frivolous. But when it

comes to money, though, it's always best to be

h o n e s t w i t h o n e ' s p a r t n e r .

Telling her partner he's the best she's ever had

wanting to please your partner in bed is only

natural, and vice versa. Maybe you are with

the person you are meant to be with for the rest

of your life, and that's great. But the truth is,

this doesn't always mean you will both be the

best the other's had. Some women lie to their

husbands about them being the best sex they

h a v e e v e r h a d .

Fantasizing about someone else before you go

getting your underwear in a twist, though,

remember you can't control your thoughts, and

neither can your partner. And while it may not

be the perfect scenario, it's probably not done

purposefully. If you do decide you want to

know the truth, be prepared for an answer you

may not want to hear. Just think twice before

you ask your woman whether she has fantasies

about another man, you might not like her

answer unless you want her to look you in the

e y e s a n d l i e .

Having an orgasm it's not an urban legend by

any means; some women have faked an

orgasm at one time or another. Regardless of

the reasoning behind it, it's still a lie. Maybe

she wanted it to be over. Or, perhaps she just

knew it wasn't going to happen this time.

Wha teve r t he ca se , i t ' s pos s ib l e .

She wasn't that into her ex anyone who's

devoted a significant amount of time to

someone else surely had feelings for them,

even if they no longer do. A woman may lie

about how she felt about an ex for a few

different reasons. She might do it to come

across as a good girl, to make it seem like she

wasn't endlessly searching for the right

person, or just to protect her partner's feelings.

alk away while you can, no shame in Wbeing a single mom,

Georgina Onuoha writes on domestic violence. The divorced mother of two took to her Instagram page to advice women to walk away from abusive marriages while they can, because there's no shame in being single mother.

“Love does not hurt”

What you love, you protect

The rate of domestic violence in Nigeria is alarming. Yet, our elected officials are mute about it. No Legislation put in place to protect against domestic violence and to punish its perpetrators. Why have we become immune to it? Domestic violence is no respectable of class, status, fame, religion or creed. No one is immune from it man or woman?

Why remain in an abusive relationship? To please society? To have the title of Mrs. or Mr. after your name, for fortune, fame or pleasure? It starts slowly and metamorphoses into a beast you can't control.

Why not leave to Live?

So many have died and many more dying as I write this.

You should love yourself enough not to let anyone scar you.

Why do women protect their abusers?

There is no shame in walking away. Do not conform to what society sets for you as standards of marriage or relationship. Every faith should condemn v i o l e n c e .To my brothers; why hit the one you claim to love? What happened to walking away?

What will you do if your mother, sister, daughter or aunt calls you or come home with a battered face? Will you defend them against their abusers or tell them 'such is life because you are guilty of same crime'? Would you protect them? If yes, wh y wo u ld yo u su b jec t someone else's daughter to same faith of abuse?

Only cowards hit women and people?

Women hear word!!

Walk away, if you fall out of love with your loved one, please explains it to the people your decision will affect the most directly and walk away.

It becomes a burden when you want to eat your cake and have it. Emotions and feelings are strong.. It's better to shed a few tears temporary than being scared for life or worst of all end 6 feet.

Kids learn from where they live and grow.. Home is their first school, they exhibit what they see their parents do. Protect them so they don't grow up thinking it's normal to hit or abuse anyone.

Please let's end this vicious cycle.

My heart goes out to all going through this phase and any who has been through this phase. The scars might heal but the wounds linger for ever.

Walk away while you can.#No shame in being a single lady #No shame in being a single mom”

HANDLING Your FEAR

Fear is a feeling that too often runs our lives. Whether it is fear of commitment, rejection, failure, death, flying, or any other phobia, it tends to keep us from living our lives to the fullest. Fear can be handled rationally and can be controlled if you are willing to work on it and are motivated enough in controlling it, instead of it controlling you.The first thing you need to do is take the time to get to know your fears. Most of the time, people are aware of their fears, but never really gets to know them. Set up a time when you can sit down and have an interview with your fear. What is your fear and where does it come from, and why do you fear it? These are questions that must be provided with answers in order to better understand your fear, so that you can start brainstorming about methods that will work best for you.Start with acknowledging what the fear really is. Once you are fully aware of what your fear is, and then work on figuring out where it comes from. For example, if you have a fear of failure, what gave birth to such a fear? There is a cause for everything, so if you feel puzzled on tracking down the place of where it came from, keep looking inside yourself until you find it. Did you do poorly in school as a young child? Did your parents constantly pressure you to do well, making you feel anxious and incapable of ever pleasing them? Knowing where your fear comes from is the biggest key to understanding it. Understanding your fears is good because it also means that you are able to find solutions to it.After making the discovery of where your fear(s) come from, you may then ask yourself why you fear it so much. Many people have a fear to fly, for instance, because they hear news of airplane crashes and are terrified that they might share the same fate as the planes that crashed. Others fear flying because they are intimidated with the fact that they would be so high above the ground. Learning why your fear exists so strongly is important and will help you learn more about yourself and the way you think about things.Once you figure this entire out, what do you do to handle your fear? Research tends to help greatly. Let's say you have a fear of commitment. The best thing to do is look back at all the experiences that helped build this fear. Did you get heartbroken several times from past relationships and now run away when an opportunity for a serious relationship comes to surface? Go back in time to those relationships and re-live what went wrong and why. You will discover that all those situations were different in some way and handled in different ways. What does that tell you? It tells you that no one is the same and no relationship is perfect. Admitting to this fact will help you understand that running away is not the answer, but what you really need to do is face and accept the imperfection in your relationships and work on ways to better the challenging situations.

Sometimes, you just know it.

You don't know how, but you feel it in your gut, and something tells you that your partner is cheating on you.

You try confronting your partner about it, but they swat your concerns away and tell you that you're just being paranoid.

Ever been there?

Are you convinced that your spouse is cheating on you, even though you can't find any proof of it?

Of course, sometimes you may be going overboard with your paranoia, especially if you're rather clingy and insecure to begin with.

But what if, by some miniscule margin, your instincts do turn out to be right eventually?

The fact that you doubt your partner is a sign that things aren't all rosy in romance land.

And just suppressing your doubts and fears, and pretending like everything's perfectly normal won't help you at all.

In fact, it'll just tear both of you apart from the inside because there's no more trust in the relationship.

Is your partner cheating on you?

There are just two ways to get the nagging worry out of your head. One, you talk about it with your lover and get a convincing answer from them. Or secondly, you sneak around discreetly and try to get some proof of your partner's philandering ways *if any*.

I f you fee l insecure in a relationship, always talk to your partner and tell them what you feel. Sometimes, it may just be a silly m i s u n d e r s t a n d i n g . A n d communication always helps sort things out, even if one of you is on

the verge of looking out for an affair.

But if your doubts don't get erased even after the conversation, then perhaps, the only way to get the real answers is by snooping around and looking for clues when your partner is too busy doing their own thing.

Confronting a serial cheater or a guiltless cheater never helps, because no matter how much you cry or remind them how much you love them, they're just too selfish to think about anyone but themselves. So instead of confronting your lover every night, take it easy and let your partner assume that all is well and forgotten.

After all, you can't catch a cheating lover when they're being cautious and on guard. Just pretend like everything's normal and watch how your partner behaves around you

12 INGENUOUS CATCH A WAY TO

PARTNERCHEATING

over the next few weeks.

Once your partner thinks you don't suspect them anymore, use these 18 signs and ways to catch a cheating partner to catch your lover in the act!

#1 Watch the signs. Do you see a change in your partner's behavior recently? Have they started working out, dressing better, or started using a new seductive intense evening perfume? They may have no reason for the changes, and almost always, these changes may seem very spontaneous.

#2 Drop by unannounced. Every now and then, drop by unannounced to their workplace or come back home early. Don't make it obvious that you're just spying on them. Instead, always have a great excuse to walk in unannounced. If your partner is cheating on you, the first thing they'd do *instead of welcoming you with a smile* is hide something or appear surprised or even angry!

#3 Check their recycle bin. The garbage is a great place to dispose of things. And sometimes, it also has a lot of clues. If your partner is on the computer of ten, check the computer's recycle bin often. Chances are, there may be another person's photo or a little snippet of information that could be of some use.

#4 Snoop on their phone. Does your partner carry their cell phone with them wherever they go, even if it's a trip to the loo? If that's happening in your relationship, there's a good chance your partner's up to something. Take a peek into their cell phone when you get the chance, especially when they've put the phone on charge.

Erased phone logs, a password protected phone, several calls to the same unknown numbers, or phone bi l l s wi thout deta i led ca l l information are all good signs that

your partner is trying to hide something.

#5 Spontaneous sex. This works better if you're a girl, and dating a guy. If your boyfriend or husband comes home late from any unexpected delay, try to have spontaneous sex with them when they get back home. If your guy gets angry, pushes you away or tries avoiding it at all costs, chances are, he may be exhausted down there. He could always wash himself up before getting home, but getting it up immediately and blowing a huge load, that's not the easiest thing to do!

#6 Follow after a fight. Most cheating partners intentionally try to pick fights, slam the door and walk away, because it makes a great excuse to slip out of the house and meet their adulterous lover. If your partner's been picking fights and walking out of the house often recently, try to follow them on the pretense of apologizing *if they see you following them*.

#7 Change your sleeping habits. If your partner's cheating on you, their sleeping habits may change almost overnight. They may stay up longer using the excuse of work, or you may catch them sneaking around the house late at night. Pretend like you're asleep as soon as you hit the bed, and try to see if your partner's up to something. Do they get out of bed for long periods of time?

And it's not just late nights you need to think about. Some cheating partners may even wake up really early and get on the phone, especially if they realize you suspect them.

#8 Does your partner want space? Space is something all of us need in a relationship, whether we accept it or not. But has your partner started getting fiercely protective about their space recently? Do they hate answering questions about where they've been or what they've been

up to? It's definitely a small warning sign.

#9 they get jumpy. Try walking in on your partner when they least expect it without announcing yourself, especially if they've been by themselves for a while. Does your partner act jumpy or nervous when you walk in on them, especially if they're over the phone or in front of their computer? They were probably doing something and they don't want you to know what it was.

#10 Changes in schedule. All of a sudden, your partner may stay out a lot of nights on work, or have a lot of get-togethers on their social calendar with their friends. If your partner doesn't ever invite you with their friends, or if they claim to be very busy working and still look fresh and happy when they get home, your partner's probably up to something.

#11 the phone etiquette. Your partner suddenly needs a lot of space while talking over the phone. They either sound awkward or they walk away from you to the next room while talking over the phone with a few people. You may even find text messages from random numbers with random texts in them.

Remember, when people cheat, they could always store the other lover's number under another name, and use code words to interact with each other when they miss each other!

#12 Gadgets. Your partner has changed most of their passwords, even if you thought you knew all of them. And even when you ask them for the new password, they make an excuse to hide it from you. And sometimes, you may see that they position their computer facing away from you, and they would never do that before.

HISTORY NOLLYWOOD

“LEKKI WIVES”

OF &

ACTRESS CHINONSO YOUNG UMESIOBI

CC ONLINE

Meet Chinonso Young, She is an actress, singer and stylist. Known for featuring in Nigerian popular TV show, Lekki Wives. She says: My name is Chinonso Young Umesiobi. My first acting job was in 2007, a stage production A Voice for Ella, produced by Isioma Onochie Aihie, and directed by Solomon Macaulay.

Did you study acting? Acting is a passion; rehearsing in front of a mirror, watching movies and observe peoples behavior, facial expressions, and body movement. I didn't study acting as a course, but I get to self-improve with materials and informed practices.

What acting technique do you use? Method acting is a common technique with actors. The actor creates thoughts and emotions of their character to make their acting real and believable. It's a useful technique all actors should learn. For this technique, I have to move away from my personality, to embrace, the character fully. This way, I can think like the character, talk like the character, and then act like the character.

Describe wrong impressions actors hold about acting Acting doesn't mean you have to look pretty all the time, you must be dynamic. Your look has to be different to portray flexibility and diversity.

Do you take courses to improve your skills?I usually read and watch informative videos. When I get the chance to be educated, I indulge.

What acting books do you read? It is an e-book, on the Technique of Acting by Michael Chekhov

How do you keep fit as an actor: mentally, physically? I take lots of nutritious foods, water, and I exercise. I stay away from negative energy, I read to keep learning.

When you are offered a role, what do you do next?I read the script and absorb the character. I record my lines, play it back and listen to it over and over. It helps to create the dialogue with myself, if I can't find someone to practice with.

How do you take a character in a script to an honest, believable and breathing person? It is more than just reading the script and acting it out, I have to keep my personality aside and become that character as much as possible

How do you stay fresh on a production set?I often avoid distracting conversations. And I always communicate as my character, this helps to make my acting fluid which appears free-flowing and natural.

Explain one creative choice you took on set?The spine of one scene I worked on with another actor required an intense emotional response; I needed to cry. But the other person wasn't giving me enough to work with, I asked the director to instruct the actor to me a slap. I got a good slap and tears flowed freely, which made the scene work and earned me a good review.

Describe a memorable character you played? One memorable character I played would be Nkoyo; the character I played in a TV soap, My Mum and I. She was a nerd and a weirdo, she was funny and she had an unusual dress sense.

What do you want most from a director?Firmness. And a good sense of blocking that resolves a scene into its spine and brings out the best in an actor.

What actor do you long to work with?Nse Ikpe-Etim

Why this actor? She is an awesome actor who brings out the best in your acting, doesn't drop the tempo and engages dialogue properly with a sense for good eye contact.

What advice would you give actors around the world?Never stop learning and improving yourself.

Briefly write about your career my first act was a stage production, “A Voice for Ella”, I played a wicked step-sister. On the TV soap “My Mum and I”, I played the character Nkoyo, and went on to do Tinsel, a soap for MNET Africa, where I played a crazy and delusional character, Ngozi. I also did a short film called the “Line Up”, my character Fola was a woman pimp, who trafficks young boys, and there is my latest, Lekki Wives.

oney was u sed a s a moisturizer in ancient times, Hand now it's making a

comeback. But there's no need to lather the sticky stuff straight onto the skin.

It's incredible on porridge, slathered over hot toast and stirred into tea, but did you know that honey is also great for softening and smoothing your skin? Thanks to its impressive youth-boosting properties, honey has actually been used in beauty routines since ancient times and is once again set to become a must-have ingredient in your makeup bag.

Rich in antioxidants and antimicrobial properties, the sweet stuff is incredible for your skin as it binds moisture and neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals. But, that doesn't mean you have to slather the sticky substance directly onto your face. Luckily, there is a subtler way to incorporate it into your routine.

Recently a plethora of skincare and body-beauty brands have infused honey into their products from lip balms and moisturizers to nourishing bath oils. The key here is to look for products where honey is partnered with complimentary ingredients like shea or olive oil as this will help to soothe and even out your skin.

That being said, you can still harness all its goodness with a simple solution.First of all, not any honey will do. Depending on which flowers the bees feed on to create it, there are all different kinds of the sweet stuff.

But, the most important thing to look out for is that it's raw and unfiltered. If you're unsure, opt for manuka honey as this has the most anti-bacterial properties. To use, simply wash your face the same way you would with a cleanser. Wet your face, slather over a dollop of honey and rinse thoroughly.

HOW I WON FUNKE AKINDELE'S

JJC SKILLZ

CC ONLINE

A-list actress and creator of popular TV series, Jenifa's Diary, Funke Akindele has found love again. Last year, she married her heartthrob, Abdul Rasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz of the 419 Squad, in a secret ceremony in the United Kingdom. In this interview, which took place at their Ibeju Lekki, Lagos home, and the rapper turned-movie maker opened up on how he met and toasted the actress.

What's new about JJC Skillz?

I am now officially a music video and film director. For the past few years, I have been telling people that I was about to move into Nollywood, but they didn't believe me. I am now one of the directors of Jenifa's Dairy. I shot all the London scenes and now we are back to Nigeria. I am also one of the brains behind an upcoming TV series, Industreet, produced by my wife. We came up with the concept of creating a story around the entertainment industry in Nigeria. I am also part owner of the SOP Music label that has four new acts. We are planning a lot of movies this year; my hands are full.

What is the concept behind Industreet?

I have 20 years of experience in the music industry and I believe nobody has been able to tell the story of the African music scene. I was there in the beginning so, I want the world to know what is really going on behind the scenes in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Is it like your true-life story?

Not really. It is the story of the betrayals, the rise and fall, the success, failures and lots more. It is a story of a group of young people who started a label, SOP Records. When you watch it, you will understand how the street took over the industry. That is why we called it Industreet.

How much of your personal story is in Industreet?

About 70 per cent of it was infused into the story line. I actually came up with this idea in 2009 and shot about half an hour pilot for it. It will premiere on May 19, and a week after; you can watch it on our website. Even Jenifa's Diary can be watched on the scene one App.

After marriage it seems you took a break from making music?

My music is on hold because I need to focus on this great opportunity. Jenifa's Diary is a big project. You can see we have been winning awards here and there. We, as a family, have our hands full already on different productions.

The scripture says 'He who finds a wife, finds a good thing', can you relate to that?

Of course, he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord. Most times, as a single man you carry almost all your burdens alone. You would have to worry about what to eat and my cooking skills are not fantastic. But when I found my wife, I knew I had found my better half. Now, when I think about something, I share it all with my wife. We wake up from the same bed in the morning and head to the field, because we are both into entertainment. She is the actress and scriptwriter and I am the director and editor. She is very hard working. In fact, I don't know anyone like us in this industry; she works day

and night. We wake up every single day with the mindset of making each other happy.Funke is a very busy woman; does she have time to cook for you?

Why not? It is said that the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Definitely, she cooks amazingly, but I told her to stop so she can get enough rest. Most times, she would insist because she wants to take care of her man.

What is her favourite dish for you?

Her pounded yam and ewedu always sweep me off my feet, and I would always ask her if she has added 'something extra' to it. She is all a man could ever ask for.

So, how does it feel being married to a popular actress?

To be honest, I lived the better part of my life in the UK, so I didn't really know who Funke Akindele was. When I met her, I felt I had just met someone who wanted a director for Jenifa's Diary. That was in 2013. We have been going out for a long time, people just found out in 2016. We were very low-key because we are two popular people; we had to protect our privacy.

How did you meet Funke Akindele?

She wanted someone to direct her TV series. I was about to embark on recording the JJC album then. Her sister introduced us because she knew I was into music and video directing. When I met her, she told me she did a movie sometime ago and would like to turn it into a TV series. We started working together and preparing for the shoot, then one thing led to another. Here we are today, the rest is history.

Would you say it was love at first sight?

Yes, because the first time I saw her, I was wowed! She also told me that when she first saw me, she went 'wow!' We tried to keep it as professional as possible, but along the line, emotions ran high.

How did you propose to her?

I am definitely a romantic person so I gave her

a dose of it. It wasn't in an open place, because very few people knew. So, that very day, she came home to meet flowers and candles everywhere; quite a romantic set up. She had no choice but to say 'yes'.

Were you not afraid she could say no?

We had a very b e a u t i f u l relationship, but to be honest, I had proposed to her earlier and she laughed at me. I think that was a week after we met. I was like 'I have never met anyone like you, marry me'. And she just laughed at me. A n d t h e n I promised her that she would be my wife. I play around a lot but I meant it.

Who apologizes first when you both have issues?

My wife would say she does but I'll object because I know I apologies first. Most times we apologies at the same time. No relationship or marriage is perfect so such things are normal. I will get upset, she will get upset and we later apologies to each other and let it slide. In fact, we hardly find ourselves in such positions. However, the important thing is not to carry over any argument or misunderstanding to the next day. We are now family, so we help each other grow. We both have had our own fair share of horrible relationship experiences, so we appreciate each other and value our love and hold it tight.

A lot of people are looking at us with envy while some are hoping and praying that one day, we would break up. We are going to disappoint them because we try hard to keep ourselves in check, encourage and most importantly pray for each other.

When would the k i d s s t a r t coming?

Soon! God's time is the best. We are working on it.

How did your kids accept their new step mum?

Before we got married, we all had a good relationship here in Nigeria. The kids were always seeing this beautiful woman around daddy, and she was always making him happy. They might be away

and in different continents but they are part of our daily activities. She is also very close to them. They didn't know she is an actress then, because in the UK, they hardly watch Nigerian movies, but they love her so much. It is a perfect blend. I remember my daughter telling me 'Dad, make sure you marry her. She is a keeper'. And I did, I followed my daughter's advice. One of my songs, 'Save The Last Dance' was written for my wife; she really saved the last dance for me.

Nollywood actress, Ini Edo said she is happy to have divorced her husband

Ini Edo got married to an American based businessman, Phillip in 2008.

She allegedly walked out of the marriage in September, 2014 following accusations of domestic violence and cheating.

Speaking on 'Rubbing Minds' a Channel Television programme, the actress cited i r r e s o l v a b l e d i f f e r e n c e s a n d incompatibility as the major reasons for the crash of her marriage.

Ini Edo said that closeness should have, may be, saved her marriage since her former husband was in America and she in Nigeria.

She said, “May be being together would have helped keep us together. Because it would enable us study and understand each other more. May be it would helped but I'm not sure.

Asked if her estranged husband was comfortable with her kind of job, she said, “He met me an actress and I believe he was okay with that.

“Actually he complained. My work takes my time and interferes with so many things.

“I tried to keep my [movie] roles as decent as possible when I got married. But naturally, there are certain roles you won't be allowed to play.

“Even when you are allowed to play them, you can reject them not just because of your husband but you got relations as well.

Asked if her former husband's family interfered in her marriage, she added, “He was the last child, so family members will try to see if their child is doing okay.

“I try not to regret [the time I spent in marriage] but I will say, it's been an experience I have learnt a lot from. It made me a stronger person. It made me wiser and I think it actually made me more mature.”

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, is a

Nigerian musician. He has made a lot of impact with his music

which has also won him multiple awards. In this interview, he

shared with us his relationship with his mum, his music as well

as sundry issues.

What's the acceptance of your new album like now?

It's been amazing. My fans are falling in love with it and even

without the videos, you can see their interest. Now, you will

see that the songs are easy to learn, like a nursery rhyme and

everybody is falling in love with it.

You wrote a song for your mum titled “Not forgotten.”

What inspired that song? I did that song and finished it after

Eric Arubayi died. Although, I already started the song before

he died, but he made me finish the song. He inspired me to put

the song together on my EP, because he was a good friend of

mine. He was an amazing guy and his death to me was like

losing my family member. It was very painful and I felt like

crying on this EP, it will be nice to dedicate this song to people

that inspired me.

When did your mum die? My mum died in 2010. You know,

Not forgotten is for everyone who has lost a loved one at a

certain time. You know when you remember them you say a

prayer for them, so, I did this song for such people.

What did she do for a living? My mum was a teacher. She

was a headmistress and so, all that school life about respecting

people and behaving well she imparted on me. She believed in

training up a child in the way of the Lord and stuffs like that.

Did she ever teach you? Yes she did. At some point I was in

her class.

What was it like being the son of a teacher? It was a lot of

pressure, because when your mum is a teacher you can't fail.

You have no excuse to fail and because she is your mum, if you

are not doing well in class, then you are in trouble. So, you had

to do what you had to do; I had to study hard and not depend on

her for pass mark. You know, I wanted to be the child of whom

someone would ask “who is that intelligent kid?,” and my

mum comes up to say “He's my son”.

What was the best advice she ever gave you that you

cherish? One of the things she taught me was humility. She

taught me so much, but all of them put together in one word is

I MISS EVERYTHING ABOUT MY MUM - IYANYA

humility, because I saw her live a humble life. She told me to

always share what I have with others who don't have and never

to oppress other people as things of this world don't have much

value, and so I shouldn't place much value on them.

As a teenager, how did she curb your excesses back then?

My mum was a teacher like I said, and when it was time to flog

me, she did. When it was time to correct me with words she

did. Sometimes when I did something bad, the look in her eyes

told me I was in trouble.

Which did you prefer; flogging or her tongue-lashing? She

didn't flog like that with bruises, it was just on my bum she

flogged and every time she did that, I got the message. When it

was something I did and she thought I deserved whipping, she

whipped me. But when she felt I deserved a talk, she sat me

down and talked to me. So, I don't think any of her disciplinary

measures were wrong because I needed it at that point. I never

felt like she was being unfair, she did what she had to do as a

mother.

What was her favorite food that you enjoyed?

I don't know how they call it in English but in Calabar they call

it oto. It was made of water yam, crayfish and other things and

I miss that dish greatly now.

Aside her food what else do you miss about her?

I miss everything about my mum. Sometimes, especially now

that I am famous. I wish I could call her and she would speak to

me. Sometimes, I need somebody real and it's not that there are

no real people around, but it's hard to trust people these days.

Family is blood and your mum will always tell you the truth

even if it hurts because she doesn't want you to get hurt.

What really happened to her? I lost my brother and she was

the one taking care of him while I was in Lagos , coupled with

the stress and all that, we lost her too.

D i d s h e o b j e c t t o y o u r s i n g i n g c a r e e r ?

My mum was the one who made sure I joined the choir then.

You know when I started chasing this kind of music, she felt

like I didn't really need it. She felt I should go to a good school,

get pocket money and after a while get a good Calabar girl to

marry then start a family. She didn't like me sleeping outside

and coming back home by 4am; you know how mothers can

be? But when people started coming to her and complimenting

my songs, then she was encouraged. You know I am not the

type of guy that sings in the shower, although I do sometimes,

but she never really heard me sing. But one day, she came to

w a t c h m e a n d t h e n t h a t w a s i t .

W h a t d i d s h e t e l l y o u a b o u t g i r l s ?

She said never tell a girl you want to marry her when you don't

w a n t t o .

H o w s o o n a r e y o u s e t t l i n g d o w n n o w ?

I don't know. It's not that I don't want to settle down but there's

too much pressure now especially with settling down. You

know, you see people who have settled down and they are

moving out of it, so I just figured out that all this is not about

rushing because you feel it's time. I think it's about meeting the

right person.

Slow Country stars Ivie Okujaye as Kome, a single teenage mother who is drawn into a drug trafficking and prostitution ring to give her 7-year-old son the good life. When Kome decides to quit, Tuvie (Sambasa Nzeribe) who runs the ring is unhappy and will stop at nothing to keep his prized asset in his clutches.

This movie was upheld as Nigeria's most believable action movie and you know what? They were absolutely right! I saw an article calling it the best action film in Africa though that may be a tad bit of an exaggeration but it does not take away from the fact that this was a darn good movie. For one, the action scenes are unlike any we have seen in Nigeria…ever!

MOST CHALLENGING WORKING WITH MALE ARTIST

Male have natural ego and they feel they know better than their female counterparts. Working with a male

artist has brought out a side of me that I didn't know existed, I'm more patient to listen and I'm more stealth in pitching my ideas to him so it doesn't look like I'm “lording” over him.

WHY DID YOU VENTURE INTO THE MUSIC BUSINESS?

I didn't know I wanted to go into the music business, I just know that I have so much love and passion for administration. My artist noticed it and insisted I manage him.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN AN ARTIST YOU WOULD WANT TO SIGN TO YOUR LABEL?

I look for the willingness and drive to succeed and most importantly, I look at his/her passion for music

HOW MANY ARTISTS A YEAR DO YOU TYPICALLY SIGN PERSONALLY?

I'm sure with time; we will be able to accommodate more.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NEXT FIVE YEARS ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY MIGHT LOOK LIKE?

A lot of people are stepping up, the ministry is accommodating. I look into a time where gospel artists will be more accepted.

'IT WAS ALWAYS A STRUGGLE

COMEDIAN' TO BE A

According to him, the audience applause for him at shows was polite at the best of times. Talk show host, Teju Babyface, has maintained his stand to keep from stand-up comedy, saying he was constantly struggling.

He said this in an interview with Punch, adding that there comes a time when one's inner self would call out and discontent sets in.

'It was always a struggle to be a comedian. You may not have seen the struggle but every time I got on stage, it was a constant struggle,'Teju Babyface said.

'I had to prove myself to the audience constantly at every performance. It was a constant struggle and there were times I had been called on stage and the

applause at the best of time would be polite, at the worst of times it would be non-existent.

'If you think about it, I really did not look like a comedian. It was as if the audience did not believe I could make them laugh; so I always had to prove myself.

'There was a time that it did not matter because I really enjoyed doing it. But after a certain time, your inner man would call out to you and things like discontent would start to set in.'

All that said, Teju Babyface still believes he can remain a comedian. 'There was a certain day I had a lucid moment after a particular performance. As I got off the stage, it occurred to me that I was not called to be a career stand-up comedian. It was just a

stage through which I had to pass.

'I am not saying I am not a comedian because I will always be one but I am no longer a stand-up comedian.'

Teju Babyface went on to use the example of Steve Harvey, who has all but dropped stand-up comedy and is more of a talk show host now.

[Steve Harvey] did his last stand-up comedy show in Las Vegas in 2012 but he hosts the Steve Harvey show on television and radio, he has a children's show and he is also an author.

'He is a business magnate but he would always be a comedian. You cannot watch him and not laugh and it is the same thing with me,' Teju said.

A 44-year-old woman, Modupe Alegbeleye, has told an Ikole-Ekiti Customary Court in Ekiti why she denied her husband, Ebenezer Alegbeleye, sex.

The woman cited cigarette odor from him as one of the reasons.

Modupe made the claim while replying to a statement by her husband that she denied him sex for three months.

She told the court, “My husband likes smoking cigarettes but I do not like its odour.

“So, whenever he smoked and demanded sex; I was always turning down his demand as I hated cigarette's odour.

“Although, I knew that my husband was a cigarette smoker before we started our relationship,

I was always advising him to stop it.

“I was also praying so that he would quit it, but to no avail.

“That is why, sometimes, I would ask him to take his bath before making love to me.

“I also denied him sex because I did not want more children based on the experience I had when I was to give birth to our second child.

“I lost the baby due to lack of proper care for the baby and me from my husband,'' the woman said.

However, her husband told the court that he needed more children because he was the only child of his mother.

“I am the only child of my mother. When my wife gave birth to our

only son 10, years ago, I told her she would bear me more children.

“But my wife said no; and she has been denying me any romantic advances I make to her,” Alegbeleye said.

He told the court that peace would reign between them without separation, “If my wife will change her attitude and agree to bear me more children.

“She will also agree to take proper care of me by cooking my meals, which she had denied me for long.”

The President of the court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, fixed the case until May 22 for judgment after all efforts made to reconcile them proved unsuccessful.
