WHAT ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL DEvELOPMENT PROGRAMS DO WE OFFER?

— Athletic and Personal Development training is an integral part of an athlete’s development at IMG Academy. All athletes complete Core Athletic and Personal Development as part of their sport training. Core Athletic and Personal Development includes training and development in physical conditioning (builds strength, speed, movement, power, agility, mobility, flexibility, pre-hab, coordination and endurance) and mental conditioning (builds the mental skills that help athletes reach their goals and compete at their best on any given day). These programs are integrated into the daily schedule and APD has specialists in physical and mental conditioning that work with each sport to complement the sport training they receive. Every APD staff member is trained in their specific field to provide the athlete with specialized training that gives them training that most athletes never receive, even in the collegiate or professional ranks. In addition, all athletes receive athletic training coverage and care as part of the program.

— All athletes also receive Athletic and Personal Development Classes as part of their tuition each year.

— For those athletes who have a specific need in a particular area of Athletic and Personal Development, Additional Specialized Services in Athletic and Personal Development are also offered. We offer additional one-to-one training in mental conditioning, nutrition, and athletic body management (physical therapy and/or regeneration massage).

WHAT IS THE ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL DEvELOPMENT CLASS?

Every athlete has their own specific development needs. Some athletes want to get faster, or more flexible, others need to develop agreater mastery over their mental game, improve their nutrition, or become a better leader. The purpose of the Athletic and Personal Development Class is to give IMG student-athletes access to our experts in athletic and personal development and tailor their personal growth to their own specific developmental needs. Coaches in each sport assist in choosing APD classes they feel will help their athletes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Every athlete enrolled in an IMG Sport Academy will receive Athletic and Personal Development Classes as part of their tuition. Therefore over one year, a student may be able to participate in Athletic and Personal Development Classes such as Leadership, Nutrition, Speed, Brain Training, Yoga, Mindfulness, Ascend In or Out (transition in and out of IMG), Building Men of Character, and Empowered Female Athlete. The Athletic and Personal Development Class is 45 minutes - 1 hour per week. The class is an integral part of the student-athlete experience at IMG Academy and separates the IMG Academy program from any other program in the world. Group sizes in the APD classes will be kept to an appropriate number to maximize the learning and development of each student. The Athletic and Personal Development Class will be delivered at the best time as decided on by the sport director and the APD staff.

WHAT IS THE vALUE IN ATTENDING CORE ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL DEvELOPMENT AND ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL DEvELOPMENT CLASS?

Feedback from students, alumni, and coaches tell us the following:

— There is a clear correlation between attending athletic and personal development training and improved performances on the field/court in both training and competition

— The breadth and depth of services we offer in athletic and personal development (physical conditioning, mental conditioning, nutrition, leadership, brain training, and yoga) is unrivalled at high school level and compares favorably to many of the top Division One Schools in the US

— No other school in the world offers an equivalent program that balances education, sport training and athletic and personal development training in one integrated schedule

— The same coaches that work with our collegiate and professional athletes also work with our student-athletes and the student-athletes are our number one priority. In Athletic and Personal Development, our goal is to make a difference to young people’s lives.

ACADEMY

Dear Athlete/Parent, Congratulations on your enrollment as a student-athlete at IMG Academy. As one of the many resources on campus, you have a unique opportunity to benefit from the services provided by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) as part of their partnership with the Academy. Headquartered in Barrington, Illinois, for more than 30 years GSSI has been committed to helping athletes optimize performance through cutting-edge sports science research, service, education, and innovation. In the fall of 2011, GSSI opened its first US-based satellite facility on the IMG Academy campus, and in 2016 relocated to a brand new 9,000-square-foot facility within the new IMG Performance and Sports Science Center. Within this expanded space, GSSI scientists conduct research to answer specific sports science questions designed to better understand athletes’ needs in order to help optimize performance. For this purpose, the studies performed utilize both individual and team participation. The testing can provide you a range of information, including: how much energy your body uses, how your body uses fuel during activity, your fluid and electrolyte needs, nutritional habits, body composition, sleep habits, muscle strength, motor control, and reaction time. These tests are the same as those that we conduct with some of the world’s most elite athletes, including Dwyane Wade, Serena Williams, Elena Delle Donne, Bryce Harper, and Cam Newton. As an IMG Academy student-athlete, you have the opportunity to experience the research and educational offerings at this new facility. Information from the different tests and services provided, with your permission, could be used by the nutrition, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine staff on campus; helping them better understand your strengths and identifying areas of opportunity. All athletes interested in testing are encouraged to stop by our lab on campus. To be considered for participation, you and a parent (for athletes under 18) will be required to complete several forms, which will vary depending on the testing to be completed. Additionally, if your team participates in group testing and you wish to participate, we will reach out to you (and a parent for those athletes under 18) to obtain the necessary forms. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the lab or give us a call at 941.201.3811. We hope to have the opportunity to work with you and have a positive impact on your athletic journey. Regards, Melissa Anderson, MA R+D Principal Scientist Gatorade Sports Science Institute
