In 2017, NSFAS recorded 564,011 economically eligible students

Universities:

• Universities confirmed registration for 300 095 students.

• NSFAS generated contracts for 94% of the students and 98% of the students signed.

• The 6% (18K) contacts not been generated because there were two groups of students that were funded late in 2017. (The

quintile 1, 2, 3 and SASSA beneficiaries). These students are being processed as part of the 2018 programme.

• There is an action plan to ensure students sign working with the institutions with a deadline of 31 August 2018, after which

date NSFAS will close the signing process and commence with reconciliation and 2017 final reports.

TVET Colleges

• TVET Colleges, confirmed 263 916 as registered.

• NSFAS generated (contracts)SOPs for 98% of the registration received

• 97% of generated SOPs have been signed.

• NSFAS followed up with TVETs to close the 3% of unsigned LAFSOP.

Engage institutions to facilitate communications with students to sign contracts;

Periodic visits to institutions to assist students to sign.

Contracts are generated every four hours. These contracts are queued to be generated

with the next batch.

NSFAS has received these registrations from

institutions BUT these cannot be linked successfully

with studentsNSFAS has a specialised Exception Handling team dedicated to work through all

exceptions in consultation with institutions. Some of the errors include:

• Institutions send Course Codes that NSFAS does not recognise;

• Students registrations are for courses that are not funded;

• Process cycles that do not match the current ones required by NSFAS.

NSFAS has received these registrations from

institutions BUT these cannot be linked successfully

with students

Registrations for these students have not yet been

successfully linked in order to create bursary awards

documentation still has not been provided

NSFAS is engaging both the university and the students individually to submit

outstanding documents. These efforts have been complemented by messaging and by

campaigns on social media as well as opening of a special portal for students to self-

upload the documents.
