Business Delegation Tour: The Circular Economy in Action (Phoenix, AZ)

CCC partnered with the City of Phoenix, Arizona State University, Republic Services, and the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce to host its second annual circular economy delegation tour. This tour brought together business leaders and industry experts to explore practical and profitable opportunities for making the leap from linear to circular models and practices, and how to apply those practices to achieve a world—and a future—without waste.

Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment and Workforce Development in Mexico: Exploring Opportunities for Private Sector Engagement and Impact (Mexico City, Mexico)

CCC, along with the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, WEConnect International, and our corporate and nonprofit partners, convened a two-day event in Mexico City focused on promoting women’s entrepreneurship.

Engaging multi-dimensional stakeholders

In 2016, CCC worked with a diverse group of partners to activate new networks and opportunities. These partnerships added a unique perspective to events and elevated the voice of our business network.

Beyond 34: Recycling and Recovery for a New Economy

In collaboration with Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), and with initial funding from The Dow Chemical Company, Target, Republic Services, and Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Walmart Foundation, CCC launched Beyond 34: Recycling and Recovery for a New Economy. This project will demonstrate a replicable and scalable model for breaking through the current 34% national average recycling rate.

Community Health and Wellness

Businesses have the ability to shape discussions and influence community health. Our Health Means Business campaign and community health and wellness programming helps foster business engagement and learn best practices.

Energy and Water Use

Creating greater energy and water efficiency not only helps a company become more sustainable, it can also help the bottom line. Our programming helps businesses and communities solve energy and water challenges and better understand the energy-water nexus.

Financial Inclusion

CCC’s financial inclusion programming seeks to share best practices and shine a light on how businesses are building financial capabilities in communities and addressing the finance gap.

Food Security

Our food security programming helps amplify the voice of business and educate the stakeholders on topics such as the modern agriculture system, hidden hunger, food deserts, packaging and food waste.

Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery

Over the past decade, when disaster strikes CCC has become the liaison between the private sector looking to help relief efforts and communities in need. CCC’s seeks to help businesses learn disaster response best practices so when disaster strikes they know best how to prepare and respond.

STEM Education and Jobs Skills Training

Through partnerships and innovative solutions, the private sector can have a tremendous impact in building the workforce of tomorrow. Our programming, in conjunction with the Center for Education and Workforce, and roundtables bring together business leaders for candid discussions on how to help students achieve more.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

In 2016, CCC’s original research reports, best practice sharing, and interactive tools helped businesses improve their corporate citizenship efforts. Engagement and collaboration at CCC’s issue-specific events demonstrated the capacity for supporters to learn from their peers and build on valuable insights and resources.

Trash to Treasure: Changing Waste Streams to Profit Streams (February 2016)

This report Trash to Treasure: Changing Waste Streams to Profit Streams provides insight on how companies can properly value their waste streams and make changes to their processes to take greater advantage of cost savings and new profit streams. By adopting circular economy thinking, businesses can help eliminate waste and turn trash into treasure.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Partners on Institute for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

The Institute for CSR is an initiative of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers and is offered in partnership with Advanced Academic Programs at Johns Hopkins University. The Institute, which is entering its fourth year, offers CSR practitioners the opportunity to earn a professional certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from Johns Hopkins in less than a year.

The Institute for CSR provides professionals in the field with practical, real-world skills and best practices. We are excited to join this impressive partnership and help expand the reach of the Institute for CSR.

At our 2016 Corporate Citizenship Conference, we held a session called “Sentiment Analysis 2.0.” During the discussion, we shared findings from IBM’s and CCC’s analysis on how individuals feel about companies,

and how those companies’ corporate citizenship efforts impact that sentiment. By using IBM’s Social Media Analytics Tool, the IBM and CCC teams have produced findings that show the impact of corporate citizenship efforts on how individuals view companies. The goal of this research is to show the impact of

community work and spur more businesses to act.

Our roundtables help cross sector leaders learn corporate citizenship insights and best practices in an intimate setting.

Path to Empowerment Roundtable Series

Part of an ongoing series of roundtables, this year’s Path to Empowerment roundtables focused on how the private sector can economically empower women who live and work in the communities in which companies have operations, sales, or other reach.

Boston Youth Education Roundtable: A Sustainable Future through Empowerment and Equality

Sponsored by PwC, and cohosted with the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, this roundtable focused on the nexus of sustainability and STEM education.

Private Sector Roundtable on the Global Refugee Crisis

In July, CCC convened U.S. State Department and private sector leaders to discuss the global refugee crisis and how businesses can play a role in humanitarian relief efforts to provide aid during such a challenging time. The roundtable, led by the Deputy Secretary of State and CCC, explored how private sector engagement can provide sustainable solutions in the areas of education, employment, and enablement.

Co-Designing the Workforce of Tomorrow

CCC partnered with Pearson to hold a roundtable in October discussing the role the business community plays in rectifying high unemployment rates among college graduates.

Private Sector Solutions to Economic Opportunity in the Twin Cities

CCC teamed up with PwC and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce to host a forum that explored how businesses can engage with the local community and collaborate with cross-sector partners to address income inequality in Minneapolis by using their expertise, resources, leadership, and data.

Sustainability Forum

CCC hosted its 6th annual Sustainability Forum, “Better Business, Better World: Mainstreaming the Circular Economy.” Thought leaders and practitioners from business, government, academia, nonprofit organizations and other stakeholder groups came together to explore opportunities and best practices for unlocking the value of the circular economy.

International Women’s Day at the United Nations

In partnership with the UN Office for Partnerships, CCC’s 2016 International Women’s Day forum, The Business of Inclusion: Global Prosperity through Women and Girls Empowerment, brought together public and private sector leaders to explore inclusive solutions that create opportunities for women and girls around the world.

Accelerating a Healthy America: Learning Tour to the Twin Cities

CCC held a learning tour, with Medtronic and Target, in Minneapolis-St Paul for corporate citizenship practitioners to visit model community wellness programs with their peers, and discuss challenges and solutions to implementing these programs. This tour allowed professionals to collaborate on and share best practices for improving the health of communities throughout the U.S.

Business Delegation Trip: Long Term Flood Recovery in Louisiana

In November, CCC led a corporate delegation trip in Louisiana to introduce business leaders to nonprofits, chambers, government officials, and other community organizations that are leading the recovery in the state following the August flooding.
