Jumping into writing… I always get excited when students come to visit me…A teacher will often ring through and ask if they can send a student to visit and show me their work. My response is always, ‘yes’, as this is one of the joys of being an educator, as well as Principal. The beaming smiles on faces as they show me their work is, as a certain commercial states, ‘priceless’!

One Jumping Bean members, Rose, Will and Sofie, proudly read their work to me. The ‘Seven Steps to Writing Success’ program that the school is using is making such a difference!

Remembrance Day

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, Balmain Public School fell silent for one minute, after listening to Elliot B so beautifully play the ‘Last Post’.

Remembrance Day has attained a special significance in the post-war years. This day was chosen by the allied nations for the commemoration of millions of war dead, including perhaps a third of them with no known grave.

We have stopped to reflect, remembering those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts. More importantly, we remember that Remembrance Day signifies the end of fighting and the start of peace…

Chess Tournament

The Sydney Academy of Chess ran a very successful chess tournament last Monday.

All participants had a lot of fun. Place-getters (from left) include Arlo, who was first with a perfect score, Nikolai was second, Alex and Ben (highly commended) and Leo (third).

Ms Stanley, Leo's teacher, was so excited because Leo, as a Yr 2 student, had beaten many Stage 3 students.

Balmain by the Beach

Don’t miss our final stage production for 2016, when all members of K-2 take to the stage in a

holiday themed mini-musical, Balmain by the Beach.

Fabulous costumes, great set, songs and dancing and best of all, the youngest members of our

learning community on stage, some for the very first time.

Their all singing, all-dancing teachers are going with them too, so this promises to be a

production you don’t want to miss.

To acknowledge the less fortunate at Christmas time, Year 6 students will be collecting a gold

coin donation for the Smith Family.
