WeatherThe Big Island’s weather is pleasantly warm and tropical all year-round. The daily average temperatures range from mid 70s to mid 80s. In the higher elevations such as Waimea, the temperatures can be a bit cooler, especially at night.

What to PackThe attire for the meeting is business casual. With the mornings, evenings and meeting rooms being cool, we suggest dressing in layers. It may be a good idea to pack your binoculars and your camera—you will frequently see humpback whales surfacing to breach and splash. Those interested in participating in Color Wars may want to pack their golf clubs, shoes, tennis racquets, tennis and/or running shoes. Also be sure to bring sunscreen with an SPF that is higher than what you would normally wear on the mainland.

AirportKona International Airport (KOA) is located approximately 23 miles (45 minutes) from the hotel.

Non-Clinical Hike & Workshop DetailsWATERFALL ADVENTUREThere are a couple of things to tell you about our outdoor excursion in January, which Suzanne experienced first-hand in October.

First, the off-road portion is an adventure unto itself. It consists of boarding old German military vehicles in Hawi, traveling up a two-lane road a few miles, through a locked gate and then going straight up the hillside to the beginning of the path. It’s a bumpy ride but a lot of fun too. If you have long hair you will want to pull it back in a ponytail because it is quite windy during the “highway” portion of the trip.

Second, the level of difficulty of the hike is going to depend entirely on whether it has been raining recently. The path is narrow and steep in places and there are exposed tree roots and rocks. If it is muddy (as it was in October), it will be more difficult to traverse. However, Hawaii is said to be heading into a drought due to El Niño conditions, so that may not be so much of a concern. Either way, anybody who is in relatively decent physical shape should have no problem with the path.

Closed-toe walking shoes, reef walkers or sports sandals, bathing suit under shorts, a hat, sunscreen and a light sweatshirt or jacket are recommended. Walking staffs, raingear, warm wear, daypacks, souvenir water bottle, lunch and beverages are provided.

RESTRICTIONS: This hike is not recommended for those with back or neck problems. Attendees must be able to walk over uneven terrain and short climbs.

WORKSHOPSAthletic attire that is stretchy and fitness shoes with lateral support (like cross trainers or tennis shoes) are recommended for the Egoscue, meditation and Yoga workshops.
