This data is based on S.T.A.R.S. participants from all past seasons and does not incorporate any of the 2016 participant data. The tests are divided into areas of agility, balance, coordination, strength, power and flexibility. Many of the S.T.A.R.S. tests span more than one area of these athletic abili- ties. To use this worksheet, copy each of your raw test scores from your results sheet to where it says “MY SCORE” and then look immediately below for your skating level to find the range of data for that particular test. 95% Confidence Interval Range: Measures magnitude of dispersion between the ma- jority 95% of the sample values, excluding the top and bottom 2.5% extremes of the total sample range. So if you are within this range, you scored like most of your peers in your test level. Mean: The calculated average from the sample set. Median: The median value is the exact middle number of a chronologically ordered numerical data set. This value typically represents the dividing line between the top 50% and the bottom 50% of the data. At the completion of all 2016 testing Combines (scheduled for mid-August, 2016), you will receive an email with log-in information to access your calculated S.T.A.R.S. results. The test scores you achieved today will be compared with all other participants to determine a percentile score for each test. The top-scoring S.T.A.R.S. athletes will be recognized by U.S. Figure Skating throughout the 2016-17 season! Please note: Your individual data will NEVER be shared publicly and you will not be individually identified in any reports. A note about the front split flexibility measure:Your front split flexibility score is a measurement of the distance between your malleoli when you reached your greatest split position. Ultimately, this will depend on your flexibility and your leg length (which increases as you grow). Therefore, all things being equal in terms of flexibility, an athlete with longer legs will score higher than an athlete with shorter legs.Compare this to your standing spiral score. Ideally, they should be nearly equal. This ratio will be expressed as a percentage in your online S.T.A.R.S. report.

A note about the straddle split flexibility measure:Your straddle split flexibility score is a measurement of the distance between your malleoli when you reached your greatest split position. Ultimately, this value will depend on your flexibility and your leg length (which increases as you grow). Therefore, all things being equal in terms of flexibility, an athlete with longer legs will score higher than an athlete with shorter legs. Some athletes are able to front split more fully while other athletes may be more flexible in the straddle split position. How do yours compare?

A note about the standing spiral flexibility measure:Your standing spiral flexibility score is a measurement which was the distance between your malleoli when you reached your greatest split position while holding up your preferred spiral leg, without bracing your core and pushing through your arms against the wall (i.e. only using the wall for balance). If this value is not as high as your front split score, you can improve it by working on your core strength and control as well as foot and ankle strength, balance, and proprioception.
