REGIONALLY RANKEDBoth Bowling Green State University cross country teams have been ranked in the UST-FCCCA Great Lakes Regional rankings during the 2016 season. The men’s team was 12th in the Oct. 3 rankings, while the women’s team was ranked 19th on Sept. 19 and Sept. 26. This is the first time the men’s team has been regionally ranked since USTFCCCA records began in 2003. The women’s team was ranked for six weeks in 2015, rising as high as ninth.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRYThe Falcons will participate in the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. BGSU finished seventh (189 points); it was their best finish in the meet in 15 years. Nathan Kuck (25:23.39) was the Falcons’ top finisher in the 8,000-meter race and finished 17th overall, while Kohl Taberner (25:45.61) and Jonathan Wenning (25:57.52) also earned sub-26-minute times. The men’s championship 8K is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRYBowling Green will resume their season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Mid-American Con-ference Championships in Kent, Ohio. The Falcons will run at 11:00 a.m. in a 6,000-me-ter race. BGSU placed second overall in 2015’s MAC meet for the team’s best finish since 2006. The Falcons’ 72 points were their best since winning their last MAC title in 1998. Rachel Walny (21:06.90) was BGSU’s top runner and placed fifth. Elena Lancioni, Allison Francis and Rebecca Schott also placed among the top 31 runners.
LAST TIME OUTThe BGSU cross country teams competed at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals on Oct. 15. The men’s team raced against 40 other ranked teams, and Noah Schaub led the Falcons in the 8,000-meter run with a time of 25:36.7. The women’s team placed ninth out of 25 teams in their 6,000-meter race, and Rachel Walny placed fourth overall in 21:04.9.
