Old Town Winchester will celebrate the Irish and Scottish roots of the community with the St. Paddy’s Celtic Festival in Old Town on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from noon to 9 p.m. This festival will incorporate entertainment such as Celtic bands, Irish step dancers and Scottish bagpipers. Most performances will take place inside Old Town businesses (50/50 Taphouse, Brewbaker’s, Bright Box and Union Jack). Weather permitting, there will also be activities along the Loudoun Street Mall. Events are free to the public. Across the Pond will perform with a blast of high energy music at 50/50 Taphouse on Cork Street beginning at noon and ending by 3 p.m. Sound of Sleat will play at Brewbaker’s Restaurant from 3 to 6 p.m. The band, which takes its name from the body of water between the Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, plays traditional Scottish and Irish music. From 6 to 9 p.m., Union Jack Restaurant will host Capital Celtic, an Irish music band comprised of a fiddler, flutist and acoustic guitar/mandolin/banjo player. Their rich, varied Irish music will keep you tapping your feet, dancing and singing along. Upstairs in their Out of the Box room, Bright Box will feature the McGrath Academy Irish Dancers from 3 to 3:45 p.m. and Lilt, an Irish folk duo, from 7 to 9 p.m. During all four band performances, a percentage of food and drink sales will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Musical performances are free to the public, but space is limited. During the event, Old Town Winchester Business Association will host a retail store window decorating contest with a Celtic theme. They will also be hosting an Old Town Scavenger Hunt with a chance to win a gift certificate to a downtown restaurant.
