BUY 20, RUN 1 FREE.Save 5% on fuel when you invest in an Actros fl eet.Unlike other fuel consumption tests, Mercedes-Benz trucks chose the extreme everyday environment presented by the challenging Eastern Cape roads, with high traffi c congestion and adverse weather conditions to test the fuel effi ciency of the Actros 2644 LS/33 and Actros 2654 LS/33, equipped with Hypoid Axles. As real drivers took the helm of the 6 x 4 truck tractors, with standard interlink trailers, 9920 kilometers, including the Penhoek Pass with an elevation of over 1884 metres, stood between them and the goal – to prove these Mercedes-Benz trucks are the most fuel effi cient ever produced. It’s a goal that was not only achieved, but also quickly surpassed, as the trucks racked up an impressive 5% fuel saving, compared to the hub reduction axle models. Which means, the more Mercedes-Benz Actros models you add to your fl eet, the more you’ll be able to run for free. Much like Denzel Washington’s character in the

recent Hollywood blockbuster, The Equaliser,

the Innovation Group is taking the fight to irregular

warranty coverage thanks to the launch of its latest

range of Motormend warranty extension packages.

According to the company’s spokesmen Trevor

van Rensburg and Andre Slabbert, these new

Innovation Group warranty packages will go a long

way in ensuring peace of mind for operators that

don’t necessarily have the coverage they need for

the mileage they cover.

“South Africa’s logistics sector is bustling with

activity and we’ve identified the need for a product

that caters for transporters and operators that

cover great distances and cannot afford to be

put out of pocket with costly repairs, especially

if they are not even aware that they are not

covered for specific components under their truck

manufacturer’s warranty,” van Rensburg explained.

Slabbert added that manufacturer and OEM

warranties, in the truck market, are usually broken

down into three segments:

• Basic Warranty – Usually covering trim items and

cab electronics

• Drivetrain Warranty

• Engine Warranty

“When a transporter buys a truck he is usually

‘sold’ on the idea that his or her truck comes with

a comprehensive warranty, however it’s important

to clarify with your OEM as to how their warranty

structure works,” Slabbert said.

He explained that once establishing how your

warranty works you are in a better position when

it comes to looking at bolstering your warranty

The Equaliser is hereVan Rensburg explained that the

Motormend plans are available for almost

every truck that’s sold in South Africa,

and that each truck has been stringently

assessed in terms of its risk factors when

pricing the appropriate plans for clients

coverage with an aftermarket plan.

“Our Motormend plans are unique in that it aligns

with specific portions of a manufacturer’s warranty

plan to extend warranty coverage on certain trucks

up to 1 000 000 kilometres when combined with

our extended warranties,” he said.

Van Rensburg explained that the Motormend

plans are available for almost every truck that’s

sold in South Africa, and that each truck has been

stringently assessed in terms of its risk factors

when pricing the appropriate plans for clients.

“Our clients are able to select the amount of cover

they require based on the precise needs of the

operations they perform on a daily basis. This not

only makes it easier to maintain a healthy fleet of

trucks, but it also makes it easier to sell the trucks

into the pre-owned market with some warranty

coverage still attached to it,” he explained.

While some OEMs are beginning to align the

warranties it offers in terms of equal distances

and time periods for all components, there are

a number of models on sale in SA where the

drivetrain warranty expires long before the

engine warranty.

“The Equaliser range of products will fill the gaps

left by your manufacturer’s standard warranty, and

once topped off with an extended warranty can

cover certain truck models for more than 1 000 000

kilometres, which is a first for the South African

market,” van Rensburg added.

The Innovation Group is no stranger to offering the

South African automotive sector unique solutions

to its conundrums, boasting more than 20 years

experience in the market.

In South Africa, the Innovation Group currently

enjoys a 60 percent market share of the outsourced

motor warranty, service and maintenance plan

market and have over 1 000 000 vehicles on

its books.

The full automotive market – passenger cars to

commercial vehicles – is catered for, and van

Rensburg explained that the Innovation Group also

offers tailored products for marine, motorcycle and

even agricultural vehicles.

“We’ve realised that there’s a need for extended

truck warranties in South Africa, as our economy

is heavily reliant on the road freight sector for

its growth. The addition of our new Equaliser

packages, which will offer even further cost savings

for transporters will ensure that their trucks are

kept on the road longer and, most importantly, that

the trucks on SA’s roads are well maintained and

safe,” van Rensburg added.

Isuzu Trucks Geared up for 2015

T he truck manufacturing sector in South Africa has

experienced significant milestones in 2014 thanks

to the establishment of several new OEM production

facilities around the country.Isuzu Truck South Africa also formed part of this massive

investment into the country’s infrastructure in 2014 when

it completed a multi-million upgrade to its Eastern

Cape manufacturing plant, which it claims puts it in an

enviable position amongst its closest competitors – as

the Japanese truck maker looks to increase its already

authoritative sales figures in 2015.“With our current plant location we have access to

a port, which makes transporting vehicles to the

19

Marketing Manager, Lisa van Aswegen, believe that its

expansive model line-up is continuing to prove itself in

being able to cover the exact needs of South Africa’s

bustling road freight sector.Isuzu Truck South Africa was the first OEM to introduce

the automated manual transmission - AMT – into the

medium commercial vehicle sector on selected N-Series

models back in 2008.Due to the popularity of the transmission, the company’s

N-Series truck has leapt ahead of its competitors in

the segment, continuing to meet the demands of

consolidated cargo movers as well as municipalities and

small business owners around the country.Van Aswegen said that the popularity of AMT is

astonishing, but not beyond belief as the company

knew that AMT would revolutionise the way in which

productive fleets are started, grown and maintained

in SA.

“AMT has proven itself in the market, and has

contributed to a better bottom line for a number of our

clients,” she said.AMT, Isuzu’s acronym for its class-leading transmission

solution, is based on a manual transmission that is

treated to a wet-type multi-clutch disc and advanced

fluid coupling, which essentially combines the fuel saving

regions we view as key growth nodes much easier,”

said Craig Uren, Isuzu Truck South Africa chief

operations officer (COO).“Our plant has undergone some radical changes in

line with our global leadership philosophies, which are

intrinsic to not only our brand but our heritage, too.

One philosophy that has been used successfully in the

plant in establishing optimal productivity is the use of

Kaizen principles, which has increased the capacity of our

workforce,” he added.Isuzu Truck South Africa’s upgraded Kempston Road

plant covers more than 44 000m2 and adheres to strict

ISO standards - ISO9001 and ISO14000.Here it assembles the N, F and FX series trucks and

boasts an impressive on-site safety record.“What we have managed to achieve at the plant is

decrease wasted time and injuries by increasing optimal

working conditions, which benefits our employees,’’

Uren said.He explained that as a business, Isuzu Truck South Africa

contributes towards many downstream activities within

the South African economy.“This means that although Isuzu Trucks may be in the

automotive industry, we contribute greatly to society.

The main mode of transport in South Africa is road

freight, and by ensuring that companies that purchase

our vehicles are sustainable we ensure that people

are employed throughout the supply chain, ranging

from drivers to merchandisers, store controllers and

distributors,” he added.Pledging support to worthy initiativesWhile the company’s roots run deep in the Eastern Cape

with its assembly plant, Isuzu Trucks continues to pledge

more than economic support to the region thanks to

its recent title sponsorship of the gruelling PE to Plett

mountain bike challenge.“Isuzu Truck South Africa boasts a long and prosperous

heritage in the Eastern Cape and is always seeking

innovative ways to give back to the local community of

Port Elizabeth and ultimately to the Province. The PE to

Plett mountain biking challenge afforded us the ideal

platform that would support the region that is known as

the home of Isuzu Trucks,’’ said Uren.Isuzu Trucks vehicles were also used throughout the race

as support vehicles.AMT still leading the packWhile the upgrades to its plant and the company’s

charitable concerns take a high priority on its agenda,
