Lorain County Spinning & Weaving GuildFebruary 9, 2016

OpeningThe regular meeting of the LOCO Spinning & Weaving Guild was called to order at 7:05 in the presence of a smaller than usual group, due to inclement weather. Last month’s (January’s) meeting had been cancelled, also due to weather. Guild President, Elizabeth Yasaki presided. Neither guests nor visitors were present. Approval of Minutes Sheryl Billman made motion to approve December’s minutes. Karen Long seconded and motion passed w/o opposition. ReportsPresident — Elizabeth Yasaki — no report.Vice President — Karen Long — no report.Treasurer — Betsy Bruce reported we have $5189.01 in bank account. This balance includes member fees for Bobbie Irwin Workshop to be held in April. Betsy collected Guild donations — $5. for small bags & $15. for large bags of fiber, donated by Mary Beth Derikito. Mary Beth is facing health issues and has processed this fiber (LOTS of it!) over the years. All profits from sales of her contributions will come to LOCO. Mary Beth also contributed Babe spinning wheel & Louet drum carder to Guild equipment.Secretary — Carolyn Borsini/Eboni Johnson — no report.Workshops — Beth Hines. Ed Rowe reported: (1) There is still one (1) place left in Bobbie Irwin Workshop: The Magic of Iridescence – A

two-day weaving workshop with the Lorain County Spinners and Weavers Guild will be held April 23-24, 2016, at the Pittsfield Township Town Hall at the junction of Routes 58 & 303 from 9:00 to 4:00 each day. For questions, please contact Ed Rowe at [email protected].

(2)On Saturday, May 14 the second annual 'Spin In' will be held at the Oberlin Public Library, 65 S. Main Street. The event will be open to anyone; with a couple of special wheels for folks to try. Bring your wheel and come spin as long as you like. Again, for questions, please contact Ed Rowe at [email protected].

Programs — Next month’s Program will be held in smaller room, here at Carlisle. Ed Rowe will present Program on spinning. Beth Hines — we usually do a basket making workshop in March; please let Beth know if you are interested; we may need to wait until the fall.PR — Paige Funkhouser — no report.Library — Ebony Johnson — no report. (2)Betsy learned, in December, that our Guatemalan Student is so far unable to start high school. Although she does not yet have opportunity to start, she is on the list. Betsy also learned from John Gates that there are two young girls from ________ going to middle school.

OLD BUSINESS —Elizabeth revised Flyer for the third time. She passed around for members’ final approval. Will be reproduced in black & white (as color is too expensive) & handed out at demonstrations.

ANNOUNCEMENTS —(1) Stacey Allen is coordinating fiber bus trips: May 6 & 7, 2016 to Maryland Sheep and

Wool Festival & October 14 - 16, 2016 to New York Sheep & Wool (Rhinebeck).(2)Cheryl Lesure has embroidery file (for LOCO tee & sweat shirts) on thumb drive.(3)Sewing Expo will again be held at the IX Center on March 31 through April 2. You can find

(LOCO). In March, 2016, we will celebrate our twenty-five year anniversary. Mention was made of Cake, mugs, & tee shirts, however no firm plans were made. Karen Long, Beth Hines & Chris Bruce are charter members.

NEW BUSINESS —Karen Long motioned that starting with Bobbie Irwin’s The Magic of Iridescence Workshop, anyone who hosts a visiting instructor in their home will be invited to attend the workshop
