Aaniin, Boozhoo,

Greengs

A brief update:

I am now on the Chiefs

Commi!ee for the Union of

Ontario Indians and that I will be

a strong voice for improving

health care issues not just for

our First Naon but for all.

Also, that I am represenng the

First Naon Fire Fighters society

as we move fire safety issues

forward and advocate for

funding for training and safety

equipment.

Public Works did an excellent

job with the graveyard clean-up.

And a Chi-Meegwetch to all

families who came out to the

clean-up!

As your leaders we encourage

all of you to learn and do what

interests you and to culvate

the ability to think crically for

yourself and to tackle the tough

jobs and challenges. As life long

learners we must connue to

evolve and adapt in our thinking

and views on life. We must

connue to learn and to surround

ourselves with bright, posive and

encouraging people.

As this school year draws to an end

on behalf of Chief, Council and staff

we want to extend our

congratulaons and well wishes to

all of our graduates and to those

who are returning to connue on

with your studies.

In closing, on behalf of Chief and

Council have an excellent summer,

be safe and have fun!

Meegwetch

Chief Paul Syre!e

The Teen Youth Leadership Program

youth planned and parcipated in an

amazing end of year celebraon to fo-

cus on mental health and stress reduc-

on. Nine Teen YLP youth and three

invited youth guests, accompanied by

Colleen Crowley, Kim Duguay, Beese the

Lifeguard and Henry our bus driver,

travelled to Lake Superior Provincial

Park on Friday June 10th

for a 12 hour

day trip. The YLP youth’s goals for this

event were to enhance their mental

health and reduce stress by creang an

event that allowed them to do the fol-

lowing:

☺ Spend me in nature (forests,

lakes, beaches, waterfalls, rocky

gorges, bubbling brooks, sunshine,

baby partridges and bugs!)

☺ Parcipate in healthy and enjoya-

ble physical acvity (3 hour hike at

Right to Play Youth Leadership Program News!

Orphan Lake and swimming at

Katherine Cove)

☺ Learn more about their culture

(visit to the Agawa Rock Picto-

graphs)

☺ Unplug from their technology for

several hours

☺ Enjoy a healthy lunch beside a

waterfall with their friends and

adult allies

This wonderful experience was made

possible because of the generous sup-

port of the Garden River Wellness

Centre and the Right to Play Pro-

mong Life Skills for Aboriginal Youth

(PLAY) program. Miigwetch to every-

one who worked so hard to make this

event a huge success!

Overall, I have met so many kind

professionals and I look forward to

working in collaboraon with all of you in

creang a be!er future for our children

and our community.

Thank you,

Samantha Cirillo
